Alice looked out of the window, lucky - some would say. With the power to see the future. But none actually saw the countless ways a situation would end as she did. The constant change was the worst. Sometimes ending in headaches that to a human would probably be deadly. The cloudy sky seemingly called out with the message of peace to the vampires. And yet... this one small vision was almost sparking a migraine. Still too far away to focus on it.
Edward looked at his sibling with a mix of joy and pity while reading her thoughts. They grinned like crazy at his - 'You'd feel better not dwelling on it, smell that deer on the left? Could be a feast.'
No way in hell would Emmett stop the car on a day of a football game. They just playfully bickered until Emmett finally pulled into the parking lot.
If only they managed to forget every school lesson each every time they had to restart it would have been easier not to let their mind wonder. She counted the seconds as a vision of a huge storm slowly grew to be more prominent. With a loud sigh she raised her arm.
"May I go to the bathroom?" The teacher tried to protest but got a sweet smile in return. Yeah, there was a future in which he shut his damn mouth. "Lady troubles, sir I wouldn't like to bother anybody." The man shook with thinly veiled disgust and agreed. An easy enough situation to move on from. In the corridor they deliberately passed the bathroom door getting closer to Edward's class just to give him a clearer vision. He was already standing beside the door with a worried look. They didn't need to do it that way but from what it seemed they also needed to act fast. Edward's human crush would be in too much danger otherwise. And she didn't want anything bad happening to Bella either. She kinda... grew on her. She thought saving a life was worth it not to mention - a flood of pain radiated from her eyes to the back of her skull. So no this vision wasn't the same as her migraine causer from the morning.
The situation seemed like a flood risk, unfightable power outage, a general danger to everybody.
"We should definitely tell Carlisle." In the thick silence between them the words seemed heavy and tasteless. Even if Alice knew before what he was going to say. She didn't bother to entertain his thoughts further switching to a vision of their glass house halfway demolished by two trees falling on it. The ground seemed unsafe in it at best. "Even more since that's the case."
Wind howled like a pack of werewolves in the green-blue forest. Cold mornings during fall weren't anything unusual. Jacob ran fast along the perimeter of the reservation sniffing the markings with great care. Yeah something thick hang in the air. He didn't talk to Bella after his first change. His muscles grew, brought joy. The shapes of his body finally stopped looking so foreign.
The pain of no contact sickened him but somehow the feeling of belonging fizzled out with Bells already. No childhood best friend is good if they hate your ass. Especially with Edward still hanging around the Swan house the only option was running. Pops went out to the city, closing some deals or just a meeting - Jacob wasn't totally positive. But that left little to no contact with anybody. He could roam without care for a moment.
The other's scent wasn't as strong in this part of the border, very much uphill from their usual patrol grounds. There was just the slightest whiff of old planks from between the bushes. He placed down a few more markings before checking it out.
A fairly intact little shed or a home. Spiderwebs coated the windows pretty thickly and by the time he was changing back into a human it was obvious this place was used by hunters as a point to rest in or maybe store some supplies. He looked up at the sky thinking there was some time before rain just to explore a little. A surprisingly unbroken broom laid on the tiny porch letting him sweep debris and shit from the house, it's two windows and the door. The key was hidden under a cracked flowerpot - miraculous that neither it nor the lock rusted through completely. Or now that he was paying more attention... no the place was left maybe three months ago maybe four, just never renovated but thats no crime. On the inside there were lights that maybe had power some time ago but lack of a generator outside proved it had to be a while. One of the bulbs seemingly was battery powered, he flicked it on and then off just to check if it worked and placed it back happy with the find.
They got Bella in a safer building, Edward hovering like a worried pet more than a pining boy. Her dad had to be at the station as news of a possible natural disaster mobilized any and all public servants. None of that was of Alice's concern even as the rain poured, thick layer of it settling on the windows and already pooling some on the concrete driveways. Closer and closer was this alien feeling of anxiety. Soon the first lightning struck as she decided that was that, it was time to go back to Esme and everybody else. Focusing on them brought a few incoherent visions of bickering.
"Bella, don't worry your dad will be fine. I should head out home now though." They turned to the clumsy human with a grin.
"I just worry about" she paused and anxiously looked to Edward. "Sorry. Is she okay? I'm sorry, Edward. Can you see Jules?" Alice stared at her, empty for a moment as Edward barely held back from picking a fight just at the mention of the werewolf. Again, that wasn't Alice's concern though. Jacob was respected by all his enemies but not his supposed best friend? At least this served as a punch to the gut Alice didn't know she needed. Finally the haunting vision that was clinging to her flashed before her eyes. Much to Edward's disgust she just turned on her heel and left. 'Bella is acting her age at least' - was the last thing he offered as the window shut behind her.
Whatever twisted reality her brother lived in they were not about to partake in a collective delusion of it being okay. Everybody knew those two stopped being in contact, everybody heard rumors about the boy too. She just didn't connect the dots fast enough apparently. Alice moved quick. A shack somewhere and death, death, death. The imaginary stench of supernatural blood. There was little time for this search, she wasn't allowed into the lands protected by the treaty but if she didn't then-
If there was one thing she never stood for is just watching death happen as if it was inevitable. Even death of her greatest enemies wouldn't do any good unless she served it. In every future she just smelled a body that would later decompose, hard to find, possibly no funeral. How was that even possible in this small of a town? The vision wouldn't get much clearer without actions. She ran to Carlisle. Out of all maybe he would know something, anything.
The hospital already had a few admitted that crashed on the now slippery roads leading out of Forks so it wasn't hard to find father. He was filling out forms just a tad bit faster than should be humanly possible.
"I know others are safe but I'm about to faint-please-help-now." she blurted it out clinging to his arm, ignoring some nurse that was yelling at her for skipping the queue.
"I'm sorry Francine, I'll take care of this fast." he said it apologetically and dragged Alice into an empty exam room. She told him most of it, asking for leads, anything. Really anything. "There was a hunter's cabin near the border... albeit near is a strong word. Can you see the color of the doors Alice?"
She focused her mind trying to catch a glimpse of color through the blur- "Yes. Yes, red the doors are red?" Small specks danced in front of her vision. Carlisle nodded thoughtfully.
"Then I was right." An unspoken 'I'm proud of you' hang in the air as he handed her two painkillers. He was proud that they wanted to save a life. "Even if it's an unexpected person I trust your judgement Alice. You will do what seems best." She took the pills and hugged him for a split second.
"I should head out."
If anybody says a couple of hours can't change your life they are wrong. Jacob laid naked on the couch of the newly cleaned home staring up at the celling. The wind turned to rain, to more rain, to a full storm. As if in tune with his emotions escalating endlessly. Nobody was there to witness the tears so it was less shameful.
Right before he left that night Bella looked with disgust at his form. 'I'm-I'm not a freak, you are so gross. Are you e-even serious?' As if he tried to force himself onto her. And that wasn't true. None of it was. He just let her meet the real him for once. Real name, the feelings. Fuck, the feeling of a connection of souls out right died when she said it. When he spent years trying to nurture his spirituality, finding himself, he thought maybe if he changed she would be his soulmate. The pack said the way she kicked him out and told her friends he was a 'creep' and a 'groomer' was what he got for hanging with a vampire liker. The shy girl disaster somehow managed to make his life hell. Without a care.
Sometimes - as shameful as it was - he felt more kinship with Edward. The same sort of pull as towards Bella. Why in hell was that the case? He hugged himself with his arms turning away from the window. Edward was cold, unstoppable, seemingly loved by all. The tears could now positively be called waterfalls. Sobs didn't seem to end. Rain and wind weren't stopping either.
A flash of the red door in another vision and a weird pull of her soul towards somebody. 'Stay back, you'll hate me so much, please leave.' Yes, the voice of Jacob was clear. She couldn't see him in the vision but she had a case full of water, blankets, a first aid kit just in case, some more human food.
It was the right track then. She met him before, an awkward longhaired teen who only talked to Bella and quite justifiably hated Edward's guts. Harmless enough but not to be underestimated. Even before he vanished from the girl's life he was fierce. They never talked but something in his eyes back then. She crashed with the worst headache of her life that night. Jasper was sitting on the couch next to the bed baffled by how a vampire could feel like that. How good that each of them had at least one medical degree.
Gathering the things didn't take long even as she thought about it the whole time. What was that pull towards a mortal. Why did she feel it? Of course some rare cases of actual soulmates were being reported on. As the weather got worse and less predictable and the northern lights spread out further there were more cases reported. And of course werewolves could imprint too but-
She stopped dead in her tracks a flood of visions clouding her mind. After so many years with the gift this almost never happened.
There is a future in which she never gets there and he leaves unaware of how bad the storm is. Rage clouds his judgement, he changes, gets caught on fallen trees in the water, drowns.
There is a future in which she gets there and he begs her to leave, she cannot see how he looks but she complies and he... bad things happen.
There is a future in which she tells him about Bella and he attacks her. There is something wrong with it. The pull of her soul is all wrong. She has to kill him.
She felt her heart breaking.
Then there is a future in which he lives.
His nose was stuffy from crying. Not to mention he started to get cold as outside seemingly got worse. He probably should have headed home some time ago but- no he was sure the others were doing more than fine. He was just a new member of the pack. Actually - would they even care? He scoffed and got up to search for something to lay under. 'I guess a doghouse is a doghouse. At least I'm dry - FUCK' there was a briefcase and he struggled with the lock for a second, rage brewing in him. He tossed it into the ground trying to make it break. With a loud click it did.
A set of clean clothes smaller than he would usually pick but it had to do. A black T-shirt and a jacket, something to at least cover his ass. He almost ripped it in half trying to tie it around his waist.
"Fuck everything is trying to mess me up today." With a huff he kicked the rest of things away. The goal was to just stay calm enough not to do anything stupid. Stupid like letting his mind wonder. He lit up that battery powered light and searched for candles or maybe a flashlight.
So what if he figured himself out for nothing and it was useless. What if this fucking pull was now just an empty tug. Sometimes he wondered if it wasn't just a knack for finding out about supernaturals. The tug towards the Cullens before he was told what they are. The pull towards the pack. The two were very distinctly different.
He absentmindedly reached under one of two cabinets that supported a small sink and swore again as he cut his hand. 'Another thing, sure, yup! Uhuh!' with a deep breath he wrestled the doors fully open finding broken glass inside, some with his blood but also what he was searching for. 'Well, thats something.' As was this blind search of his soul.
More sobs got caught in his throat, a building pain. It felt worse when he saw Bells hanging with Edward and this-
The realization hit him like a truck.
There was someone else there that looked at him and saw him. The weird one that he saw when visiting Bells at the high school too. Sometimes they went by Archie and sometimes Alice and sometimes he felt like they would understand so much better. He blinked the tears away terrified of the thought. Jacob felt his heart race faster and faster. They passed by eachother in the forest during patrols but neither were ever alone. Did the love for Bella die fully because of her reaction? The vampires with weird powers maybe this one too could read her mind? And she knew already how it hurt? Or maybe she knew and approved. Cruel, not to mention, not funny. Jacob held himself up on the counter's edge and closed his eyes. How terrible of a person was he for it? For thinking he could trust his childhood best friend.
Through the rain he heard a loud knock and somebody walked inside bringing some of the rain in. Jacob felt his stomach twist as he looked back at them.
"Please go, what the fuck? What is this? This is the tribe's territory." his eyes were wide open attention fixated on Alice's posture, deadly fangs and fingernails that could just as well tear through steel.
"Jacob this is past the border, calm down." She is held a plastic crate of things, slowly bend to place it on the ground. He felt naked, and something told him that she knew but she made no attempt to look at him at all. The sentence also made some sense so he didn't acknowledge it further.
"Stay back, you'll hate me so much, please leave. I hate you." He couldn't let his guard down or even try to cover himself so step by step he moved to the furthest corner of the home. "How did you even find me are you a mind reader like your fucking brother?"
She checked the doors to not loose any more heat out of the room then brushed back the wet strands of hair out of her face. "I see the future." Alice said that as if it was enough of an explanation and went to place the bottles and food on the sink.
"Why are you acting like this is normal. They will find my body if you kill me. They will know." Jacob blurted it out feeling his wolf form stir beneath the surface. He was ready to pounce. And since blaming himself didn't work maybe this would? A threat. Thats when she held up her hands and turned to face him, full eye contact.
"I think we both came to the same conclusion lately. That night when I first held your gaze - did you feel that pull too?" She took a step back to give him even more space. "Neither of us chose for this to happen. Other than this moment. Every other timeline you died. I don't want you to die."
"So you come here to what act like my savior? You think I'm harmless and need saving?"
"I" she hesitated, gaze slipping to his body, the T-shirt showing off his muscular build and a slight curve of his chest, the jacket around his waist leaving little to the imagination for his bottom half. "Would it be worse if I came here for selfish reasons too?"
He swallowed back the insults dancing on the tip of his tongue and also allowed himself to look. They looked like a mess, a green sweater, brown leather vest on top, short hair so saturated with water they looked black, jeans clearly caked in mud and scum. They were... more than pretty but also tall. How was the water so deep?
"Fuck. Is it flooding?"
"You didn't notice at all?"
"I slept!" A small lie but he was getting distracted now. At least the others were safe. The tribe was prepared for flooding. "It would be better if the reasons were selfish. I'm not in need of a savior."
"Thats good. I want to feel what it feels like to be imprinted on." Alice softened her voice and gaze. "If we feel similarly that is?" She saw Jacob's objections and questions and everything all at once. The future was bright. He already made up his mind though.
"I cannot believe that I feel open to this idea." His heartbeat stayed fast as he let out a shaky breath. He tried to clear his mind. To imprint on her right here right now so fast and out of nowhere. Jacob furrowed his brow at the feeling of his cheeks flushing. "My pack would hate it so much."
"From my side Edward would too if that helps?"
"Actually it does. Prick." he sighed wiping his face from any possible tears.
"I see your point but am incapable of hating him forever." she smiled and looked away.
"What about 90 years?"
"Seriously? Is that your requirement?"
"No. I'm joking Alice, he is your family." Jacob shrugged and pointed to the couch. "I just cleaned this place so if you could consider taking off your pants?" To his shock she did so faster than a human could ever and was sat, cross-legged on the leathery material. He took the two blankets she brought, gave her one and exchanged the jacket for his blanket.
"I can wear the jacket- my sweater is soaked." she was looking at him intently with their head quirked to the side.
Without a word he handed her the jacket and watched as she - without a care - took off the vest and sweater with one smooth motion. Even her long sleeve shirt underneath seemed damp. He swallowed. Her long fingers undid the buttons leaving only an expensive looking bra on. She looked him in the eye before pulling the jacket on.
"I uh, the food is for me right?" He asked to fill the sudden silence and grabbed an orange.
"If I eat it I'll have to puke it out. Can't digest it," she paused for a moment before cheerfully adding "but from what I heard werewolves have the metabolism of a human just on like 500% of power. So-"
Jacob found a strange appreciation in him for this kindness. Or maybe just a sign of future seeing. Either was fine because his heart grew as he found a carton of milk. "You really delivered Alice. I chug this stuff every evening." This was the first time he spoke her name out loud ever. And it felt natural somehow.
"I might really like it if you were to say it often." He blushed a little, took the orange and took the other side of the couch.
"Are you serious in your proposition Alice?"
"Only with your enthusiastic consent." they leaned in closer, that choice earned her a shy smile and a vision of a kiss. She watched his lips as he pealed the orange nervously.
"I have to... to imprint it just has to happen. I-" He waited a second before kissing her clumsily. She could not stop herself from reaching to his hair, grabbing it to prolong the moment. Butterflies, thats what both of them felt. His first kiss turning messy before he pulled away to breathe. "We don't have to do anything now if you don't want to?" He offered her the last moment to back away, even with his lips stinging from the venom now, he was playing fair. Some of the juice from the fruit coated his fingers so he put it aside and licked his hands from it.
"Don't make me say no to this Jacob." She grabbed his wrist tasting some of the juice too just to pull him back into another kiss. The citrus flavor made her hunger in so many ways. Most surprising was the tingle around their wrists. Looking down - it was a marking on the skin. "Shit we are actual soulmates. Like real actual no joke soulmates."
"Archie-" he breathed feeling warmth radiate from his own body. He brushed the back of his hand on their face. Only glancing at the mark for a moment. It was a representation of their biggest strengths. He would read it out later.
"We will care for the marks another time. I want to touch you Jacob-" She was being so honest. The marks proved they were connected beyond their simple will they wont they and she felt complete. Something was finally in place.
"I never did anything like this-" he laid back with her help. Looked up at her with worry. Soulmates. He was ready to believe his soulmate wouldn't hurt him. "When I say stop you stop. Yes?" He searched in her eyes for approval.
"If you say stop, or no, or ouch, or any other combination of 'no more' I'm stopping right away. I just need a taste of you right? And you will be good." She placed her hand on Jacob's stomach waiting to be allowed. He barely concealed a gasp. Her cold skin felt like a shock to his system and he was undeniably hooked.
"Yes I will" his breath hitched "I'll be good. I wanna try. Please Alice let me try."
The vampire undid the blanket around his waist and stroked his sides and thighs gently. Savoring the stark differences between them. Skin, his like the warmest of sunsets, her like the coldest of winter days, and build, his strong heavy, her thin and lanky. "Anything I can't touch?" They asked while gently dragging her nails against his arms.
"I like my body, you can touch everything if you like it too." She helped him take off the T-shirt and stared for a moment. He looked like a rugby player, his stomach fascinated her with the small amount of fat on the sides. She placed a kiss above his belly button, a bit higher, higher. Her hands were still exploring and maybe she wasn't the most well versed in this loving on somebody stuff but she knew her way around her own body very well. Her tongue lapped at Jacob's breast, gently she teased the nipple. "Shit ah." She withdrew with a smile. "No! Please more- don't stop-"
"Tsk, the cusses got to go. This is a sweet moment yeah?" Words came to her seemingly so naturally. But her mind was feeding her the most effective ones whether she asked for it or no. How did she judge the effectiveness? He arched slightly trying to follow her touch, inviting her in.
"Yes Archie. I'm sorry no cussing just good behavior. Sorry." Jacob was sure this was not just the moment, this was not just the normal experience of two humans but his senses seemed even further heightened from the contact with the venom and their apparent bond. Archie guided his hand to their bra to undo it.
"Good boy Jacob, good job." He fumbled with it for quite a while but once it clicked Alice took of the rest of her clothes.
"You are-" he closed his eyes as her fingertips teased him here and there. "Beautiful."
"You too are sensational to say the least." They dampened their fingers a little with their venom. "Your dick is quite the sight." She stroked his dick with her thumb, up and down feeling the wetness and warmth right below but counting on a reaction from the venom.
"Mmh thank you Alice." He liked saying her name he really did so much and the pleasant cold of her hands made him sigh. The body relaxed. Then came the spice, like being jerked to life by her fingers, her spit, all of it.
She sat up in a better position and put a whole finger in her mouth. She stroked him with the other hand changing up pace and ways every so often and then she added in the finger, picking all of his juices for lube too. The sting made him roll his hips fucking himself onto it. He was quiet for a moment, holding his breath. She smiled.
"More? Please more?" He plead after a moment trying to squeeze his thighs together. She picked up the pace trying to match his desperate attempts of getting more of her per second. He reacted best to her rubbing tiny circles on his cock pleading for her to just lick it just a little bit. Jacob swallowed hard bucking his hips up, trying and failing to keep his eyes from rolling back. "Alice, Alice, A-archie."
He came, eyes fluttering shut fully and Archie gently fingered him through it letting the pressure down and down before stopping fully. Jacob was breathing heavily, sweat dripped from his body. Alice gave it a lick and waited.
"Are you alright?" She asked happy with her work. Sated beyond just hunger of flesh somehow.
"Yeah mhm yes." He pulled her on top and she licked up his juices from her fingers before kissing him again. "I wanna-" he trailed off.
"You did so well for me, beautiful man that you are. Good job, good boy." they whispered laying their head next to his.
"Thank you" it was a shy whisper "I- I need to bite you to imprint on you. Hard e-enough to break skin." his voice was still shaky.
She just offered her neck. "Careful, my blood may just be enough to burn."
"Or get me addicted." He grinned sinking his teeth deep into her skin.
