Chapter Text
The flower field was basked in sunlight as kantje finished up his stretches and readied himself for the task of waking Gorb up. Saturn was already making breakfast over the fire, and everything but Gorb’s tent had already been packed up, so it was time to quit stalling and get the job done.
The encampment full of witches was on the move towards a gold mine near the Cluth sea, and Gorb had reported that they were packing the night before, meaning they were less ready for an attack. That was also the reason kantje had let Gorb sleep so late, he had been up into the late hours of the night scouting the camp.
“Gorb!” he called, poking his head into the hybrid’s tent.
Gorb shot up, muttering something incoherent, before collapsing back onto his mat. kantje snorted and kicked Gorb’s foot. Gorb curled into himself, rolling over onto his stomach and burying his face into his knapsack. Morning sunlight lit up his chalky white hair as finally dropped to his knees and pushed at Gorb’s feet until his head stuck out on the other side.
“Saturn, kantje’s bullying me!” Gorb complained as he sat up. kantje just laughed at him as he plopped himself down next to the remnants of the fire and graciously took the hot oats topped with raspberry's Saturn offered.
“Gorb, do you want some of the netherwart sourdough?” Sat called over to him. Gorb yelped something incoherent back and hopped into view backwards, with one boot half off and his hood twisted around his head. He cried out again as his foot caught on a stick and he landed hard on his butt.
The silence was deafening for a second until kantje couldn’t hold it in and he burst out laughing. Saturn followed, and kantje knew Gorb would be if he wasn’t being choked by his sweater. Finally he got his hood turned the right way and turned to face Saturn and kantje.
“Yes.” Gorb answered emphatically. kantje snorted.
“Jam?” Saturn asked, setting one of the two pieces of buttered bread on his knee as he lathered the other in pale purple jam.
“Is it chorus fruit?” Gorb whined.
“You finished the sweet berry days ago Gorb, yes, its chorus.” Saturn put the jam container back in his bag and took a bite of his breakfast.
“Gorb, Saturn wouldn’t eat the last of it without you, y’know”
“You might have.” Gorb shot back. kantje snorted again.
“I don’t want any of your weird bread.” he stated.
“you’re weird,” Gorb accused, and was probably about to launch into some tangent when Saturn –ever the peacekeeper- shoved food at Gorb’s face.
Gorb looked unfairly upset and looked down at the bread disapprovingly. Then he looked up at kantje and Saturn.
“I hate you both.”
“We love you too.” Saturn and kantje replied.
