Snap Out of It

Summary:

"Forever isn't for everyone,
is forever for you?"

ִֶָ 𓂃⊹ ִֶָ

Sylvia likes her life enough. Living with your best friend definitely has its perks. Working at your favourite coffee shop is nice too . . . but something is missing. Maybe it's that her father has left to travel the world with his new wife, or the wounds festering in her heart after being broken up with — hell, maybe she just needs to workout more, eat better, spend more time outside and drink more water or something akin to it.

It's easy to believe it's as simple as that.

Or at least it was easy before.

When a freak accident ends with her awakening in a faraway realm, Sylvia's world tilts on its axis.

Chapter Text

It was a feeling like no other, his calloused hands cradling my head as he brought his lips to mine. It sent shocks right through to my core. My body lit up with sparks in response to his every touch, his hands travelling down to my hips to pull me ever so closer, if it was even possible. Our lips moved in a synchronized dance, melting perfectly into each other as if we'd done it a thousand times before.

Another set of hands, equally large and dominant, curled themselves around my waist. The second male's hot breath fanned against the crevice of my neck, drawing my attention away from the intensity of the first's kisses. I couldn't help but to tilt my head back, releasing an unrestrained moan at the feel of both of their bodies against mine.

"I would be content listening to those little noises of yours for eternity." The one behind me purred deviantly in my ear, his hand giving a playful squeeze to my waist. His voice alone had me shaky at the knees — not to mention the shiver that ran up my spine. "Don't you agree?" He aimed the question at the male opposite to him.

"Indeed." That deep, velvety voice thrummed in the silence between us. At this point I was done for. I was painstakingly aware that these two held complete and utter control over my mind, body, and soul. They could do whatever they pleased and I would thank them in the process. Although it was dark, too dark to make out their faces; I felt a sense of security, a feeling that defected against all of my instincts to run away from these otherworldly males — these strangers.

"You're doing so well for us, darling." The one behind spoke again. Every bone in my body ached to lay my eyes on him, to turn around and get a glimpse of the enthralling voice that sent heat straight to my core.

   Sylvia.

I leaned into their touch, allowing the godly feeling to caress and envelop my entirety. It didn't matter that I didn't know these men. It didn't matter that I was still heartbroken after what Jack did. It was just them, and I wedged between; and I was ready to stay like this for the rest of my lif —

"Sylvia! Get up!" I awoke to the sensation of my best friend Amelie hitting me with a pillow over the head. Curling up into myself and clutching the sheets tight, I groaned. I felt sweaty and gross, the shower was practically calling my name.

"Why don't you ever let me sleep in?" I snapped, still feeling a bit dazed from sleep. I felt bad for doing so the moment Amelie's peppy smile fell, immediately opening my mouth to apologize. "I'm sorry, Am. I'm just so tired. That felt like the first sleep in a while that I've gotten some worthwhile rest."

Her expression lightened as she offered me a sympathetic smile. "I'm the one that should be apologizing. There might've been gentler ways to wake you up then hitting you over the head with my pillow . . ."

"Mhm." I rolled my eyes amusedly, shaking my head to myself at the nonsense she put me through. Amelie always meant best, even if it didn't always show. From the day her and I moved into this two-bedroom apartment together, she'd been by my side through thick and thin. Through my parents leaving and my breakup with Jack. If there was anybody I could count on in this world it was her. I couldn't bring myself to stay mad at her for long.

"Sleep well?" Amelie asked over her shoulder, walking into our shared bathroom. I watched mindlessly for a moment as she gathered her strawberry blonde hair into a high ponytail, realizing shortly after that she had asked me a question.

That one question alone had all of it rushing back to me. The crazy dream in which those two males touched me so tenderly. . . The blurred faces that I couldn't make out. Something utterly unfamiliar stirred in my chest.

"Uh—" I stammered, "You could call it that, yeah."

"I'm not going to ask." My best friend laughed, knowing the strange tendencies of my dreams as of late.

Sure, it was normal for my brain to conjure up strange lands and otherworldly stories while I slept. I'd had an active imagination since childhood. But to experience what I just had? That was anything but ordinary.

"Why did you wake me up again?" I mumbled. Part of me yearned to go back to the dream. I had managed to wrap myself in a cocoon of blankets between the time she had left my bedside and wandered into the bathroom.

"Pilates, Syl. It's 6:58 and class starts at 7:15."

"Shit." I sputtered, unravelling the blankets surrounding me and throwing myself off the bed. "Shit, shit, shit." I had been wondering why Amelie was dressed in that cute Lululemon workout set of hers.

"You forgot it was this morning, didn't you?"

"You betcha." I said, dropping to my knees and shuffling through the bottom drawer of my dresser. It didn't take long for me to realize that laundry day was today, which meant I had nada to wear. Everything I owned was either dirty from work or working out, leaving me only one viable option: ask Amelie to borrow one of her uber cute workout sets.  I glanced to my best friend, knowing she already knew what I was about to ask. "So . . ."

"Yes, you can borrow something of mine. Please just pick soemthing quick Syl, Im going to warm my car up." Although her words were pressing, Amelie's teasing tone told me she wasn't mad, she just didn't want to be late to our Pilates class like the last three times.

All of this sleep deprivation had led to an extreme lack of punctuality on my part. I was not about to let this be another morning of embarrassing Amelie.

Throwing on a black sports bra and leggings, I did a speed run through my little routine of brushing my teeth and hair. My dark brown waves had a mind of their own this morning, my bed head worse than ever. After a comb through and some braiding I thought myself presentable enough to grab my workout bag and winter coat, jogging out the door and locking it behind me as fast as I could.

On any other morning I would have brewed myself a latte if I had the time. Coffee was a lifeline of mine, and it had been for a while. Amelie and I had even constructed our own little barista bar in the apartment. It took us about six hours, and $500 at IKEA later, but it had been so insanely worthwhile.

The February chill bit at my cheeks, the cold already settling into my bones during the measly walk to Amelie's car. This time of year was fucking freezing in Montreal. It was a fabulous thing that Am's car so happened to have heated seats — because my butt was going to need it.

The thing that sucked the most about it being so cold and snowy was the damper it put on my mood. With Jack and I's recent breakup, I fell further into a depressive state with ease. I was still finding it so extremely difficult to get over the fact that he wanted Lola, my fucking cousin of all girls, so badly that he simply couldn't stand to take the time to break up with me before cheating with her. And the fact that she was compliant in all this too, that boggled my mind.

My thoughts flew back to just a few weeks ago, to me screaming in Lola's face outside of Jack's house.

"Good fucking luck, Lola! Hope you two have fun riding into the sunset with eachother!"

Yeah . . . not my brightest moment. Yet still, the thought of it hit somewhere deep down in my heart. After all, she still was my cousin. Jack was the one who should harbour most of the blame. Why was my boyfriend even eyeing up my cousin in the first place?

I never did have the best taste in men, as Amelie adored to remind me of at every opportunity. Between the countless guys I had gone on dates with in highschool, most if not all of them just wanting to get into my pants, I was a douche magnet, or so it felt like. Until he came along. Jack and I had been lifelong friends before getting together. We'd spent our teenage years working in my dad's garage on our very own project car; an old Audi quattro that needed a lot of TLC. Through hundreds of late nights spent working on the car, dinners over at each others houses, not to mention the fact that my friends were friends with his during highschool; us dating was almost inevitable.

I just never imagined it would have come to an end in the way it had.

Thank god I have Amelie, I thought to myself. I glanced over to the driver's seat where my best friend was currently laser-focusing on getting us to Pilates class. A smile tugged at my lips, despite the brittle cold weather and my lack of sleep. I seriously didn't know how I would manage without her. We would always support one another, I knew. Years ago when our friendship was still new and she had recently lost her mother, I can still remember holding her sobbing form in my arms like it was yesterday. If I had it my way I'd do anything to ensure she never had to feel like that again.

"Syl? You awake yet? We're here. Time to snap out of it." Amelie snickered, placing her hands on my shoulder and shaking it light heartedly.

"What?" I tilted my head from my lap, Amelie having successfully fished me out from an ocean of troubling thoughts. "Yeah, I'm good. Awake now for sure." I tried my best to level her a convincing smile.

She shot me a knowing look, swinging open the car door. "We'll stop for coffee after, don't you worry."

   I adored my best friend.

And I wasn't too worried about coffee at all — in fact, half of my mind still pondered upon what exactly had happened in my dream this morning . . .  why had it felt so scarily real?
