Work Text:

Lucienne, by nature of her duties, tended to stumble—inelegant, perhaps, but she's been surprised before—upon any visitor the library was entertaining.

It was usually a point she did not particularly enjoy. Not when mischief seemed to be chief among the reasons her domain was visited.

She is headed for a visitor now; long practiced in recognizing when the library was steering her in a particular direction. Given the bright hues of the book spines and the magnificent murals unfolding under her feet, she knew this guest was a favorite of Lord Daniel's, and she could feel the curve of a small smile on her face at the first whisper of this particular human's cadence reaching her ears.

The bend of the shelf directed her into a small, comfortable reading nook. And there, just out of view were any other to pass by, was Morpheus.

His eyes find her almost immediately, and she is gratified by the way his shoulders drop when he recognizes her. "Lucienne," he said, bowing his head in polite greeting.

"Morpheus," she said, "am I about to ward off a herd of dreamlings?"

"I had hoped coming here first would. Cut off that possibility." His look was so terribly contrite that Lucienne almost laughed. "But I do not wish to interrupt your duties--"

"Just a moment," Lucienne held up a hand, gently interrupting him. She shooed him back into the chair he was trying to vacate. "You can hardly leave when you haven't finished your book. That's rather what a library is for."

Morpheus clutched the book close to his chest. "I—yes?"

"Good," Lucienne said. "Then I hope you enjoy your reading, dear patron."

Morpheus's eyes softened. "I thank you for your care, Madam Librarian."

Notes:

I really love the idea of younger dreams being called dreamlings !! :D
