Chapter Text

“I’m Marvel Jesus!”

(Y/N) sits on the couch staring incredulously at the men in front of her. One being her roommate and the other being an almost stranger. Being used to her roommate's antics by now, she gives him a smile and nods.

“That’s great, Wade,” She says as if she were talking to a toddler. Then she eyes the man next to him. “Why is Wolverine in our living room?”

Before he can answer, what she assumes is a very dilapidated dog jumps into her lap. It’s one of those ‘It’s so ugly, it’s cute’ animals. She pets the dog gently as it licks her with its abnormally long tongue.

“Awe, she likes you!” Wade coos.

“Uh-huh,” She places the dog next to her and stands. She wipes her face free of slobber before asking a bit more sternly, “Where have you been?”

“Yeah, about that,” He struts over and plops onto the couch next to the dog. “I was just out saving the timeline with the one and only Wolverine who is from a different timeline.”

The Wolverine grunts and rolls his eyes at the vague explanation. “I remember there being a little more to it than that.” He huffs.

Wade waves him off as the dog begins to attack his face with her tongue. Logan sneers in disgust at the sight.

The woman can only shake her head. She doesn’t pry any further because she isn’t sure she wants all of the details. She is, however, happy Wade is home.

“Since you bailed on your birthday party, we should have everyone over to make up for that. Seems like you guys have something to celebrate anyways.”

Gathered, are all the people (Y/N) and Wade care dearly for. Everyone chats happily over beer and pizza. Even a few new faces at the table are enjoying the camaraderie of the group.

(Y/N) watches Wade and Vanessa out of the corner of her eyes. They shoot each other the occasional glance, waiting for the other to say something.

“Give me the fucking dog. Talk to the girl.” Logan tells Wade, taking Dogpool, aka Mary Puppins, into his arms.

Wade turns his attention completely to Vanessa as he says something inaudible. She smiles at him and places her hand on top of his.

(Y/N) stiffens involuntarily, slowly placing her drink on the table. What she feels isn’t jealousy, but a longing in her chest. She didn’t necessarily dislike Vanessa, but she did not approve of her treatment towards Wade.

She also felt that Wade and she had grown close while living together. Perhaps, she was mistaken and the only thing they shared was friendship.

“Somethin’ wrong?” Logan asks, noticing how tense (Y/N) is.

She realizes this is the first time he has spoken directly to her. She adjusts in her seat before answering, “No, all good.”

Logan continues to study her face, not believing her one bit. She feels herself begin to sweat from his stare and her own anxiety from the situation at hand. She decides that it is best she gets some fresh air.

Scooting her chair out from the table she excuses herself, “I’m going to take Dogpool for a walk.”

She takes the dog from Logan and heads out of the apartment. As she leaves, two pair of eyes follow her.

Outside, there is a small patch of grass in front of the building. She places the dog down onto the grass.

“Alright, go potty.”

Mary Puppins sits and stares up at her, tongue hanging from her snout.

“That’s cool too. Stay there.” She sighs, walking off towards the alleyway.

The more she tries to work out her feelings, the more she becomes confused. She always felt the need to make Wade happy. When he was at his lowest, when he first moved in, she did her damnedest to make him feel like he mattered. Now, he may be back into the arms of the origin of the problem.

She kicks a random can down the alleyway. It skids across the pavement until it stops at the feet of two individuals in an embrace. The woman pulls away to reach up and give the man a quick kiss. (Y/N)’s eyes widen when she recognizes Vanessa and Wade.

Quickly, she ducks back behind the corner of the building not wanting to be seen. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. ‘Fuck’.

There’s no mistaking what she just witnessed. The anxiety swarms its way back into her mind, leading her back into the feeling of longing.

“I wouldn’t let it eat at ya.”

(Y/N) turns around to see Logan walking up to her.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about-

“Bullshit,” He cuts her off. “You’ve been acting weird the whole evening since she showed up, but what I can’t understand is why you invited her.”

She glances back to where they were standing to find the spot empty.

“I don’t know.” She mumbles.

“You don’t know?” He asks gruffly and in a manner of calling me out.

She rubs her face. Of course she knows, but it doesn’t matter.

“Hey, listen,” Logan says a bit softer. He gives her an all knowing look. “He’s an idiot. That’s something we both know, but he’s an idiot for not realizing you care for him. Anyone would be lucky to have you care for them.”

She studies his face. His worn, almost seemingly tired face doesn’t subtract from his charm. He stares back at her, eyes reflecting the sincerity of his statement.

Her heart flutters at this. Emotions already fragile, she feels drawn to Logan and the comfort he’s trying to offer.

“Anyone?” She whispers.

He steps closer, eyeing her wearily. He places a hand on the wall beside her head.

“That’s what I said.”

He leans down and presses his lips to hers.
