does your mother know?

Summary:

Sunoo received an invitation from his older sister to attend her son’s wedding. It was like the sign Sunoo had been waiting for to move somewhere, forever. So he grabbed the chance and went to the island a week early. Sunoo decided to explore the beauty of the island and go to his older sister’s place a week later.

There, he met a young guy half his junior. Everything was perfect, like the universe had finally moved for him. Finding him the perfect place and a suitable guy.

And it would’ve been fine.

Everything would’ve really be perfect if not for the fact that the said young guy was,

his older sister’s other son.

Chapter Text

Life is always full of surprises. One point, Sunoo wasn’t so sure about what to do with his life. He wanted to leave the city, go somewhere to travel and perhaps find the place where he can finally settle down.

Later, he was scared of the thought of leaving the place he called home ever since he was born. The familiarity and comfort of knowing the whole city like the back of his hand is so relieving that he finds it hard to leave even when he’s in his thirties and old enough to do so.

Torn and unsure of what decision to make. It was like God was on his side and had given him the sign to follow his heart and be brave for once.

It was a wedding invitation.

Sunoo was an orphan. His cradle was found and left at the ophanage’s door when he was still a baby. His name was even given by the dean as nothing of importance was left for him then.

There at the orphanage he met a big sister, she was older than him by 12 years. Because she was considered old already, no potential parents wanted her. Instead of feeling down by it, she poured all her energy and time into taking care of the younger ones including Sunoo.

He was 8 when that big sister decided to leave the orphanage and look for better opportunities for herself. Although he was sad at being left behind again, young Sunoo understood and supported his big sister’s decision.

Two years later when he was ten, his big sister came back to the orphanage bringing with her two swaddles. It was her children, twins.

That was the only time Sunoo saw the children in person and he has a vague memory of them after years had passed.

His big sister just stopped by to show him and the dean about her children and she then moved to the south and was with her husband. She left Sunoo her address and contact number just in case he needed it but at that time Sunoo was still too young and electronic communication was a luxury for children like him.

Once a year she visited alone and that’s the only time Sunoo saw her. When he turned 18 and got admitted to an art university in the city with full scholarships, Sunoo left the orphanage he called home all his life and embarked on a new journey all by himself.

At the time Sunoo finally gets a phone of his own, his big sister has already changed into a new number so their meeting and contact ceases. It was only two years later that they happened to meet by chance at a restaurant that their contact returned.

It was also then that Sunoo had the chance to see her kids again.

They were fraternal twins, meaning the two children don’t have the same face but the two look so handsome in their own right. Both stood tall already despite their age at around 5 feet, the older one was livelier and mature than the younger who remained cold and distant. He was also paler than most just like his mother.

When the younger twin looked up from his ipad, Sunoo and his eyes met for a second and then broke when Sunoo turned away and bid him goodbye to his big sister.

And that was it. For the next ten years Sunoo has never seen any shadow of the twins. Only their mother once in a while when their schedule matches and they wanted to catch up on each other.

So, imagine his shock when he received a wedding invitation.

Wedding? One of the twins? Aren’t they just in their 20's? Just turned adult this year? Why the rush?

Sunoo couldn’t get rid of his shock because at 30, he hasn’t even considered getting married nor is he even in a relationship at this age. How come this child is already getting married at 20? His parents allowed this?

Also, who among the twins got married? Sunoo wondered, his mind turning and a memory of a certain child looking at his eyes coldly made him laugh.

Certainly not him! He’s too cold and unapproachable, no girl would’ve wanted to marry him. Although he’s quite good looking.

Anyway, not my problem.

Sunoo received the invitation a month in advance that gave him a lot of time to prepare for his move.

Yes, Sunoo wanted to move.

Ten years, he spent 10 years of his life in the city. Since the time he arrived here for college, Sunoo never left.

He wasn’t so fond of moving. He hates it. After all, as someone who doesn’t have a place he can call home, familiarity breeds ease.

And staying in the city he’s long been accustomed to, puts him at ease.

At the same time, he felt like he was stagnant. Frozen in time and just like that because of his fear of the unknown. His artworks haven't been satisfying so far and he's been tearing and throwing them away because he felt like it has no life.

Everything he'd made for the past months is lifeless.

This situation frustrated Sunoo to the core as his arts were his lifeline. Aside from the fact that it’s where his main income comes from, it's also the reason he doesn’t feel so alone in this cold place.

The city doesn’t feel so good these days.

The weather was just the right temperature but with every passing day, Sunoo felt cold to the bones.

He wanted out.

And out he did.

———

The weather was fine and the long lost fresh air felt refreshing and it was very crisp on his skin.

This is what greeted Sunoo when he stepped out of the passenger boat with the help of one of the boat men. His strawberry pink hair was covered by a straw hat that he bought on a whim but never had the chance to use, only now did he.

He was wearing a light blue short sleeved shirt and khaki shorts that just stopped above his knee and a pair of sliders.

Looking like the tourist that he is.

Well, probably not for long as he has plans of settling down here, this island if he finds it suitable.

Taking a whiff of that salty air and feeling the sun start to hit him a bit harshly, Sunoo realized that this is it.

A fresh start.

He stood there motionlessly and eyed the boatmen as they unloaded his bags, yes plural because there’s a lot of em.

Sunoo wasn’t kidding when he said he has plans on settling down on this island. He took his own words and plan seriously and he’s here to fulfill that.

Shortly after, a tanned man around his forties trotted over the boardwalk and went up to Sunoo.

“Kim Sunoo?” He asked, Sunoo nodded wordlessly.

“Great! Sorry for the wait, I got a little bit caught up with something. I’m Jiho, one of the caretakers of the Sim Villa, I was tasked to pick you up here.” He introduced himself and stretched out a hand to which Sunoo gladly accepted.

“Nice meeting you and no I just arrived.”

Jiho nodded and looked behind Sunoo, “Is this everything you have?” Motioning on the bags beside Sunoo and some that are still being unloaded.

“Yes, for now.” Sunoo replied, the last words a whisper. For now, because most of his huge stuff will be delivered at a later date after he finds a house here to stay for, rent or buy depending on the situation.

When the last bag was unloaded, Jiho and his other men helped carry those luggages and put it inside the tourist van that they brought with them solely to pick up Sunoo.

“Isn’t it too big to just use on me?” Sunoo asked surprisingly. The inside was very spacious, the seats were comfortable and the aircon was turned on generously making the temperature drop and vary greatly from the heat outside.

Jiho chuckled as he piled the luggages properly, “We honestly thought it would be but looking at your things, I think we made the right decision.” He jokingly said and Sunoo laughed along with him.

The stiffness and distance he had on others slowly vanished as he started to take in that yes, new place!

There were some complementary foods inside the van, everything was prepared accordingly.

Sunoo, now feeling a bit hungry, wasn't so hesitant anymore and helped himself with the snacks prepared. There was a chocolate cupcake, some brownies and cookies and some chips. There’s also a variety of carbonated drinks and fruit juices.

The boat ride from the mainland towards the island took almost an hour, throughout that and even before Sunoo didn’t dare to eat as he was scared that what if he felt nauseous on the boat ride and vomited? The thought scared him so much he didn’t touch any food and hastily took bonamine before boarding the boat.

Thank goodness he didn’t feel the urge to retch, only that the constant waving of the boat due to the huge waves caused him to feel dizzy as he was obviously not used to it.

For a moment when he arrived on land he was still in the illusion that despite the flat ground, he was still swaying.

Now, he can eat and not feel anything at all which was a huge relief.

Sunoo munched on the food and looked outside the car’s window quietly.

From the pier and into the Sim Villa was a 20 minutes car ride, the Villa was located on the east side of the island and had their own private beach hence why Sunoo chose them in the first place.

Supposedly, Sunoo should’ve arrived here a week later because that’s what they’d agreed upon but he decided against it but kept it from the other person so as to not bother them about his impulsiveness.

Sunoo just wanted to get away from the city earlier and now that he has this new found courage, he couldn’t wait any longer because what if he chickened out at the last minute?

Better to leave early than not leave at all.

So, here he is.

Finally out of the city.

–

Sunoo was already half full when the Sim Villa finally came into view. The land space it occupied was huge. The front house, or the original Sim Villa served as the front desks where the guest could check in and had the staff help them with their luggages.

The style of Sim villa was as its name, Villas. They don’t offer the typical hotel room style but instead have their guests have their own villa, separated from others with a certain distance for privacy and it varies from sizes and the view it provides.

Sunoo of course chose a single room villa with a separate dining area, a bathroom and a mini jacuzzi. The best part about this Villa was also the fact that the terrace from the bedroom directly faces the beach.

One just had to walk from the side and reach the white sands and crystal blue waters.

First, he asked the bellman to send his luggage at his villa before he asked the staff where their restaurant is as he’s still hungry.

Although those cupcakes did it’s job, it was barely enough for him. What he needed was real food which meant rice and meat.

With just his handbag with him, Sunoo followed the staff who was kind enough to guide him inside.

He couldn’t help but marvel at the villa’s aesthetic. The main villa was obviously very grand and huge. After passing the front desk, at the center was a grand staircase reminiscent of a scene from a movie.

It look intimidating but one cannot deny that it screams elegance and sophistication. Of course with a grand staircase it’s natural to note that it must be paired with an equally beautiful and shining chandelier.

“Wow!” Sunoo exclaims, his eyes never leaving the scene before him as he walks slowly, straining his neck a bit.

The staff named Dongmin based on his name badge, chuckles at his reaction. “We get that reaction a lot.” He shared, glancing at Sunoo’s fascination Dongmin then added, “This villa used to be the Sim family’s ancestral house almost a century ago but due to some circumstances they moved out and left this villa for good. It wasn’t years later that one of their descendants came back here to look and feel like there’s potential, so they spent some money to renovate the villa and build the surrounding villas for the tourists.”

Sunoo agreed while bobbing his head, “That’s very great of him. It would really be a waste if this work of art couldn’t be seen by a lot of people.” As he continues to scan his surroundings, pieces of expensive things enter his sight.

Sunoo silently mutters inside his heart, so ostentatious!

He bet each piece of this fine porcelain vase will cause him all his fortune for even a fragment of it. Or that Gaboon Ebony table set that a couple of guests are sitting in for their coffee and tea.

Truly extravagant!

It seems like the owners are not shy about showing their wealth or how they let others use it which somehow makes sense? Although such stuff causes a fortune, what’s the purpose of owning one if no one will use it?

Sunoo suddenly feels giddy! Just the thought of being able to see such art pieces that not even money is able to afford, Sunoo thanked the owners deeply in his heart.

For those not in the know will just think that what they’re seeing are just normal furniture that’s exceptionally good or displays that are very nice to look at.

But to Sunoo who’s an artist, this whole villa is like a free museum for him.

He did choose right.

But all that admiring art pieces scattered around everywhere will be saved for later as he can feel the worms inside his stomach crying for attention.

“Here is our Little Corner, the restaurant inside the villa. Outside by the beach is called Salty and Sweet, on the pavilion in the east is called The Cove which is our bar.” Dongmin introduced different restaurant places within the villa and Sunoo was surprised that they have a couple of them.

Dongmin stopped at a two seater table near a floor to ceiling glass window that overlooks the beach and pulled the chair for Sunoo to sit on. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Sir. Here is our menu and you can just call for one of our waiters waiting nearby when you need help or are ready to order. That’s it and I hope you have a great stay. Enjoy!”

Sunoo was touched by his attentiveness and service, he didn’t restrain himself and smiled at the other gratefully. “Thank you again.”

“It’s my pleasure!” They politely smiled at each other one last time before Dongmin carefully turned around and left the restaurant.

There were a handful of guests dining at this hour like Sunoo. The place he got was shaded so the blinding sun outside wasn’t affecting him.

Sunoo took off his bag and placed it on the empty chair opposite him before he opened the menu in front of him.

The menu was typical foreign cuisine that perfectly matches the vibe the place gave off and at the back there were few local dishes he hadn't tried and although he wanted to try it now, as he was hungry he couldn’t take risks.

So, Sunoo opted with a dish he was familiar with.

Spinach and cheese pizza, spaghetti bolognese, arroz con pollo and a glass of pineapple drink.

Sunoo’s choice of food has no particular meaning, it was just food he had eaten a couple of times and missed.

After calling a nearby waiter and ordering his food, Sunoo can then relax fully.

He stretches lightly on his seat and as he does his eyes inadvertently sweep towards a table a couple of feet away from him.

So handsome!

The guy obviously looked young, young men in their early twenties. His black hair was parted in the middle showing his clean forehead and thick eyebrows. When he turned his head to the side, Sunoo caught a glimpse of sunglasses placed on the back of his head for style.

His side profile was also extremely gorgeous, his straight and pointy nose so prominent. And there was a shallow and cute dimple when he laughed at his friend’s words.

All in all he was Sunoo’s type aesthetically talking.

But he’s too young!

Sunoo has a strict requirement when it comes to possible relationships, the other person must be within the same age as him. Younger by three or older by three and nothing more.

This guy clearly looked like someone who hasn’t been weaned yet so yeah, forget it.

Sunoo was just about to shift his gaze away when just about the same time the guy looked his way and their eyes met.

Naturally Sunoo’s eyes widened, it was like being caught eating in class by the strict teacher and Sunoo froze for a moment before blushing and hastily turned his head away.

Fuck! That was embarrassing!

I didn’t mean to look indiscriminately okay? It was supposed to be short and I was about to look away then he suddenly looked my way. What was I supposed to do?

Fuck!

Sunoo wanted so much to find a hole and hide himself. He wasn't fond of attention or just being looked at by others. He has social anxiety and he can’t stand it. That's why if he could he would’ve wanted to avoid mingling with people.

This time though he thought that he’s braver than before. He was able to leave that stuffy city and perhaps he could be a little more braver?

That’s why earlier he didn’t fidget nor flinch when those new people he encountered started talking to him.

With how he carry himself and his bright pink hair no one would’ve thought that he was a person with social anxiety.

Sunoo tries so hard to hide it as there’s a lot of people who scorn people like him and he’s already struggling so hard he couldn’t take any more, so he pretends.

Suddenly being subjected to such a hot gaze even if he was no longer looking that way, Sunoo could still feel it clearly. It was piercing and made him very uncomfortable from the unwarranted attention.

He’s aware that looking at other’s isn’t good and he’s apologizing internally as he knows how not good it feels to be done the same and now being in that position at present is really not good.

Sunoo was debating on whether he could just ask one of the restaurant staff to have his food delivered to his villa rather than stay here and dine.

He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice that the man he was panicking over stood up from where he sat. And started walking towards the absentminded Sunoo.

“Can I take a seat here?”

A cold and deep voice sounded near and startled Sunoo out of his thoughts.

His wide and brown eyes jumped in fright when it settled on the guy standing in front of him and motioning at the seat where he put his bag earlier.

“N-n-“ Sunoo stuttered his refusal only to be cut when the said guy interrupted him, “Thank you.” He smiled and pulled the chair back a bit, took Sunoo’s bag and sat on it.

The bag is now on his lap motionless.

The series of actions had caught Sunoo off guard. If possible his eyes widened another bit. His whole face screaming, what are you doing!?

“I’ll t-take my bag.” Sunoo gulped and reached out for his bag, the guy stared at him for a second and then handed him his bag effortlessly.

“It’s quite heavy.” He commented.

Sunoo blushed, “It contains my personal things and an ipad that’s why.” He explained. Honestly he doesn’t know why he needs to, he doesn’t know the guy?!

There was silence and no one talked.

Sunoo’s eyes were on the small vase at the center of the table, it was Moss Rose. There were three colors on the table: pink, purple and yellow. The flowers looked freshly picked and lively. The stems were cut short hence it wasn’t obstructing the sight from the other side of the table much.

That’s why even though Sunoo trained his eyes on the blooming flowers at the center, from the corner of his eyes he could tell that the guy was still looking at him.

Perturbed by it and even if he’s a bit anxious Sunoo sucked his lower lip and looked up.

“W-what are you doing here? I-is there anything wrong?” His hand below the table was squeezing each of his fingers, pressing it again and again to relieve some pressure.

“Can’t I sit here?”

Sunoo shakes his head then nodded, “You can’t. I-i wanted to be alone.”

“You don’t want me here?” The guy raises his thick and beautiful eyebrow at Sunoo, a teasing grin plastered on his face that Sunoo failed to notice as he was entranced by his face.

Handsome!

Sunoo snapped out of it and nodded once again. “I-I don’t know you and I want to eat quietly.”

“Hmm,” The guy hummed and tapped his fine long fingers on the table attracting Sunoo’s attention. So neat!

“Then, why were you staring at me earlier?”

“H-huh?!” Sunoo shockingly yells. He can’t believe what the other just said, what did he mean by staring? He wasn’t! He just looked a bit okay? A bit!

“I wasn’t!” Sunoo defended himself, his expression looking like he was wronged. “I just looked but didn’t stare. There’s a difference.”

“You still look.” The guy argued, his eyes studying the different expressions that Sunoo displayed. Joy flashing in those pairs of dark eyes that never knew what it was before.

“W-why? Can’t I?!” Sunoo snaps, what did he do wrong? He didn’t harm anyone? Why pester him this much?!

Sunoo was so wronged the corner of his reddened and this had the guy sitting opposite him to straighten on his seat. Arms flopping around, “No, no don’t cry please I was just teasing you.” He was clearly flustered.

An awkward smile appeared on his face trying to appear less cold but he looked extremely awkward that instead of crying from the teasing Sunoo ended up laughing at how constipated the other look.

It must’ve been not a normal occurrence for him to smile or laugh.

Sunoo laugh cutely with red tinged eyes, surprising the guy with the switch up.

“You don’t look comfortable smiling.” Sunoo said in between laughter, his face bright and red but very beautiful.

Damn! The other guy fake coughs and averted his gaze, the tip of his ears heating up. “I’m not a smiley person.”

“I figured.” Sunoo agreed.

“Sorry,” The guy backtracks and sit up straight again, “I was just teasing you earlier because you look so cute and I can’t help myself. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.”

Sunoo can tell that the guy was really apologetic, “Nah, I was just being dramatic. I’m actually not used to strangers coming up to me and especially like this.” Sunoo gestured their position and shrugged.

“Still, I was sorry. You’re just too cute.” The other repeated and this time his praise finally registered inside Sunoo’s brain.

“I-I’m not cute! Who’s cute? Your whole family is cute!”

The guy chuckles deeply, “I said you’re cute and no none of my family is cute.” He teases further, liking the way Sunoo’s face scrunched up and heated up. Like white smoke is coming up from his nose from anger.

“I’m older than you and you shouldn’t call someone you just met cute!” Like who does that? Sunoo’s eyes narrowed, this guy obviously. Although he appeared a bit cold and distant, he had a quite thick face and was straightforward when he talked.

I bet paired this altogether, a lot of people won’t like him.

Taking his words as a joke, “Older? Now, that’s an offense. Don’t go lying about your age here. You look like your age, around 18 or 19 right?”

“Hah!” Sunoo scoffed, not knowing if he should feel flattered about being labeled as young for his age or feel offended about it by not looking mature enough.

The guy smirks,“I got it right?”

“You got it wrong!”

The guy shook his head in disbelief, “Stop lying. If you keep lying then I have to stay on my seat and eat with you.”

Infuriated, Sunoo’s face continued to heat up. “Who’s lying? And who are you to decide that?” Why would he lie about his age?

“Then show me your Identification Card or better yet your passport so I can fact check.” The guy proposes, extending his beautiful hand in the middle, palm up for Sunoo to put his passport on.

“And why would I do that? Who are you?” This whole thing is absurd! Sunoo doesn’t know the guy and he doesn’t have any responsibility to show proof about his age.

“See. That’s what people who lie say.” The guy nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders as if he’s right and that Sunoo can’t contest that.

Gritting his teeth from frustration, Sunoo rolled his eyes at the guy then opened his bag to get his passport inside.

Sunoo honestly doesn’t want to because what is it to him? But he hates being doubted like this at the same time he wants to see the other guy’s reaction when he sees his age.

Let’s see who will get the last laugh. Sunoo thought evilly.

“Here.” Sunoo calmly said and placed his passport on his waiting hand.

He fixed his posture and cooled himself up with the service water on the table. Gone is his flustered appearance and he looked stable and relaxed.

What’s there to fuss about? This little episode will soon pass and I won’t be seeing this arrogant guy again.

The said arrogant guy squinted at Sunoo’s sudden change. Raising his eyebrows in question, with a skeptical look he spread the passport and was greeted by Sunoo’s serious and unsmiling face.

His hair was black, shorter than what it is now. The other half was pulled back and the other half was parted in the middle and covering a part of his forehead. His eyes stared straight at the camera and his lips were in a thin line.

He looks dashing and intimidating this way.

A huge contrast to his cheerful and bubbly look right now.

The guy lowered his eyes and scan the name,

Kim Sunoo.

Hmm, very suitable and fitting for a person like him. He thought then looked lower and froze.

For a second he didn’t dare believe his eyes. Another second he thought his mental calculations were wrong because how come? It doesn’t make sense!

30! He’s 30?! 10 years older than me? You must be kidding me!

“This must be fraudulent. There’s just no way you’re thirty.”

Sunoo just smiled at the waiter who finally brought his food over only for it to vanish right away upon hearing his words. “Who’s fraudulent?! You’re fraudulent and your whole family is fraudulent!”

“If it’s real. How come?!” The guy is still hesitant to believe. Fuck! Maybe I’m too young for him and he won’t like it if he finds out about my age?! Should I lie?!

“It's not my fault I look like this. And didn’t your mom ever tell you that looks can be deceiving? You acting this way only shows how young you are.” Sunoo calmly said, sipping on his pineapple juice feeling refreshed and cool.

The guy’s face cracked, “Who’s young? I’m not young.”

“See? That’s what young people say when they lie.” Sunoo mimicked the way he said earlier and threw his words right back at him with a smirk.

“I’m not young.” He emphasized.

Sunoo took a piece of pizza, drizzled it with some hot sauce before turning to look at him. “Sure. 20-22 is not considered young to you?”

“Who said that it’s my age bracket?! Don’t talk nonsense.” He argued and looked sideways, not meeting Sunoo’s suspicious eyes.

Hah! See?! Now how does it feel to be in my position?

Sunoo chews the pizza happily, it’s really good. His brows relax and his face beaming as he does.

“Hmp! Don’t lie to me, just by studying your face and actions I can clearly tell that you’re within that age.” His words and face vary greatly as he was smiling while speaking, somehow it appears unsettling.

“Don’t smile at me like that!”

“Like what?! And now even my smile is a problem to you?! Can you leave me alone?!” Sunoo put away his smile and grumpily took his passport off the other’s hand and put it inside his bag.

He must’ve noticed Sunoo’s unpleasant expression that’s why he hurriedly apologized. “I didn’t mean that.”

Sunoo rolled his eyes at him, “Whatever. Just leave me alone.”

“I’m sorry.” He apologized again.

Sunoo brushes him off with his hand, “Go. Young people are always arrogant.” Sunoo muttered under his breath then took a bite of spaghetti bolognese which was very delicious too.

“I said I’m not young!”

“Sure, come back to me when there’s no more milk on your lips and you’re weaned completely.”

It seemed like he was about to argue when his friends from the table he used to sit called him. “Yah, Park Sunghoon what are you doing? Let’s go, the boat is about to arrive.”

Park Sunghoon?

Park?

What a coincidence. That’s Sunoo’s big sister’s husband’s surname.

And her children.

Eyy, no way! The island is so big and there’s a lot of people with the same surname. It’s very common.

What are the chances right?

What are his big sister’s children’s names again? Sunoo tried to recall but failed miserably.

He remembered her calling her children B1 and B2 as in Baby 1 and Baby 2. But not their real names.

Should’ve asked about it.

Oh right! The wedding invitation!

He remembered and took it out of his bag, and there, it’s said.

Park Jongseong & Huh Yunjin.

The address, then the date and nothing of importance.

So it’s not him. And Park Jongseong, what does he look like?

Anyway, he will know and see when the wedding arrives. For now, all Sunoo should worry about is how he’ll spend his time effectively between traveling and looking for a house to rent or buy.

A part of Sunoo feels bad for keeping his arrival hidden from his older sister but he thought it was really better to just keep quiet and enjoy a week of peace and let her not worry about him for the time being.

Let him just eat his arroz con pollo peacefully and forget about that Park Sunghoon guy.

———

When he was done eating, Sunoo retreated to his villa with a staff to guide him where. As they walked down the cobblestone paved path, his eyes took in the blooming flora and fauna within the whole place.

The owner really stuck with making it a peaceful and relaxing stay with this amount of greenery.

Sunoo’s villa didn’t disappoint. It was worth every penny and he loved everything about it. If only there is a similar structured house within the area that would’ve been nice.

Tired and full, Sunoo freshened up for a bit then dived under the fluffy and comfortable duvet. Passing out as his head hit the pillows.

It was well into the afternoon when Sunoo woke up energized.

He changed into a sleeveless white shirt, bright yellow shorts, his black sunglasses and of course his straw hat.

Sunoo didn’t forget to bring his totoro tote bag, packed with his essentials, camera and powerbank.

Shortly after, Sunoo finds himself standing in front of a twist potato with sausage , eyes wide and expectant as the staff pour cheese powder over it.

Amazing! They really have this here. The only time he eats this was at a night market in the city which he avoids due to the onslaught of people.

So, to encounter this food here is truly a blessing.

“You like this?” The staff asked with a smile as she handed him the stick.

Sunoo excitedly bobs his head. “Yes.”

“Then please enjoy it and come back again for more.” She said and Sunoo smiled back at her before turning back.

It was also just in time for his mango shake to be done next door. And with that, Sunoo walks with a little hop in his step due to happiness about having foods.

Life is great!

Holding his potato twist with sausage and mango shake, Sunoo arrived at the sun lounger area by the sand. Huge white umbrellas were erected beside the two recliners to shelter them from the sun and provide enough shade.

Sunoo walked from left to right looking for an empty spot. He was already losing hope when he arrived at the end of the right side, one recliner was left empty.

It would’ve been good if not for the person lounging beside it.

Even with the sunglasses on, Sunoo could clearly tell who that person lying there was.

None other than Park Sunghoon!

Didn’t this guy go somewhere? How come he is here at this time? Also, what a coincidence.

When Sunoo was so sure that he won’t encounter this said guy again, it seems like the heavens are playing a game on him because after hours of napping he’ll see this guy again.

Tough luck!

Frustrated and with nowhere else to go Sunoo grumbled under his breath, placed the drink on the small table in between them and deposited his tote bag on the recliner by his side as he sat.

His actions were not small and attracted the attention of the sleeping person next to him.

“And here I thought which beautiful individual was confident enough to take the place beside me and ended up with you.”

“Disappointed?!” Sunoo asked contemptuously.

“Not quite.” Sunghoon blandly replied.

“Hmp!”

Sunoo ignored the other and started eating his potato with sausage instead. Obviously eating this was a bit of a struggle, no no, not just a bit but a struggle.

It was fine at first, Sunoo was still able to eat comfortably and enjoy the food but as he consumed more and moved lower, the angling of his head and mouth became wrong and he was slowly becoming irritated.

Suddenly an arm reached out and took the stick from his hand, using his thumb and index finger, Sunghoon pushed with strength the bottom of the sausage and brought it to the top.

When the tip of the sausage was already dangling a bit, Sunghoon then handed the stick back to the shocked Sunoo.

This guy’s expressions are always alternating between shock and surprise. Doesn’t he get tired? Sunghoon thought.

Sunoo absentmindedly took the stick and started eating again. He was quite embarrassed about being helped but he easily ignored that feeling. His eyes then followed Sunghoon’s action as he reached for his towel and wiped his fingers.

He’s really a clean freak!

Sunoo then started humming as the food flowed easily and entered his stomach. It’s really good!

“You like it so much?” Sunghoon asked and eyed the food on his hand. Doubting its taste.

“Yeah!” Sunoo answered by taking another bite, his eyes squinting from the taste. His body even started wiggling from side to side due to happiness.

“Really delicious?” Sunghoon asked once more, he just couldn’t believe that a sausage and potato stick could elicit such a reaction from someone.

It shouldn’t be that good right?

Sunoo was tired of answering him so he just ignored Sunghoon and proceeded to eat.

“Hey answer me!” Sunghoon nudges Sunoo’s feet on the sand, irritating him.

“Hn!” He hissed, mouth full. Fed up by him, Sunoo extended the stick in front of Sunghoon, “Tashe itsh.” He said, voice muffled from food he hasn’t swallowed yet.

Sunghoon’s eyes lowered and looked at the stick, he didn’t move.

Then it hit Sunoo that Sunghoon must’ve found it unhygienic to share food. He was embarrassed and wanted to take his hand back when a familiar arm entered his sight and took his stick.

This time the stick didn’t leave his hand as Sunghoon’s fingers wrapped on top of Sunoo’s. It was scaldingly hot for Sunoo.

His cheeks, tip of his ears and the back of his neck reddened simultaneously at the action. Fuck!

Their hands touched?!

Sunoo was barely registering the happenings when he caught sight of Sunghoon opening his mouth and taking a bite of the potato with sausage.

Right at the top. Yes, where he just took a bite himself.

Indirect kiss?!

It was like a bomb went off Sunoo’s head and his whole face turned into a freshly picked tomato.

Very red.

What is happening here?

Sunghoon’s grip didn’t lose even as he pulled his head back a bit and chewed the food. Brows furrowed as he seriously evaluated the taste of the food.

It’s normal. Just plain sausage and nothing really special about it.

While Sunghoon was contemplating the taste, Sunoo took his hand off. The action had Sunghoon to ultimately let go.

“What are you doing?!”

Sunghoon smirked after swallowing the food and seeing Sunoo’s flustered look. “You offered the food to me first. I don’t want to be rude so I accepted it.”

“…” Sunoo wanted to argue back, his mouth opening and closing but there were no words left to say because Sunghoon was right. He offered.

“The food is just the typical sausage you got at the store. Why do you make it look like it’s the most delicious food ever?”

This time Sunoo’s silence was because he had nothing to say but because there was a lot to say.

He knows Sunghoon’s words were harmless and if looked at the surface he truly meant nothing. Honestly it could even be taken as a compliment because it means Sunoo truly enjoys his food.

It’s just that such a reaction from Sunoo actually stems from the lack of food growing up.

Life at the orphanage wasn’t the hardest and also wasn’t the easiest. They were provided with basic food and clothing which helps them to survive daily.

They have a roof over their head and they don’t squabble with other people for food outside in the cold.

Yet, there are times where the donations they have on hand will eventually become insufficient due to the growing population.

The once three meals a day becomes two times a day and during a very difficult period especially during winter where food is so scarce as they weren’t able to store much due to low funds.

A meal a day was already enough and that meal was just a watered down porridge with barely any rice grains on it and half baked potato shared between two kids.

Life back then was truly harsh and difficult but Sunoo survived thanks to the grace of the people around him, especially his big sister and of course Dean Kang.

Sunoo owes them his life.

“Probably because I grew up with almost nothing to eat? That any food I have on hand I ended up eating it with relish because I have experienced what it was like to not have any food to eat at all.”

His answer was obviously what Sunghoon didn’t expect.

For a moment the only sound that could be heard was the waves splashing on the chore, the children’s laughter as they built sandcastles nearby and their parents chattering.

The time around the two of them seemed to stop but the rest continued.

Sunoo breaks the silence with a hollow smile, “Too dark? It was the truth, well anyway past is past.”

Sunghoon lets out an awkward smile, a familiar one at that. This didn’t fail to put a smile on Sunoo’s face. He really looks so awkward!

“I’m sorry you experienced that. I-I didn’t mean to have you remember such.”

“Apology accepted and no. Not your fault at all. Also, I don’t mind having such difficulties because that situation shaped who I am today. Well, of course if it could be avoided I would’ve wanted to but yeah, life happens right?” If Sunoo had the money he has now, life back then would’ve been easier.

Then those fellow orphans won’t have died from malnourishment and untreated diseases due to lack of funds.

Unbeknownst to Sunoo, his eyes reddened and saddened instantly. It looked lost and the life inside vanished suddenly.

Sunghoon witnessed all this. He felt his heart crack at seeing someone look this heartbroken because of him. Even if Sunoo denied it, he felt responsible.

Especially seeing Sunoo this way. Someone although confident and snappy at him on the outside could suddenly be this broken.

Although they’ve only met hours ago and twice, he felt connected and close to Sunoo in some way. Like something was pulling him towards the other that’s why even though it was uncharacteristic of him to suddenly insert himself into someone’s life, he still did that arrogant behavior earlier.

Everything was because of curiosity and his attraction towards Sunoo but Sunghoon meant no harm at all.

It seems like Sunoo wasn’t wrong after all, Sunghoon is still too young. Too careless.

To actually make someone angry and sad in meeting him? How talented is he?

Sunghoon feels so bad.

“I’m sorry.”

Sunoo chuckles, “Don’t be really. I was just remembering something, that's why.”

“Still it was because of me that you had to remember those.”

“No. Not because of you.” Sunoo firmly denied. He lets out a loud sigh, wetting his lips before speaking. “Every time I eat something delicious, I feel like I’m doing something wrong. Like I shouldn’t be eating this and that because other kids out there have nothing to eat. It’s like, I don’t deserve it at all. Funny right?”

“No, no. What your feelings are valid.” Sunghoon didn’t dare laugh, the usual arrogant air around him seemed to evaporate as he tried to come up with proper words.

Sunghoon wasn’t the type of person who knows how to comfort others. He was the type who just listens and barely says anything after that.

He figured out some people just wanted someone to be there for them. Hear their story, their anger, frustration, sadness etc.

He was the type of friend whom someone can easily call for a light night talk while the other vented out their feelings as Sunghoon silently drank his can of beer and chewed some fried nuts.

The one who will then carry that friend over his back, drive them home and make sure that they are safe and sound.

But no words were needed from him and over time his friends and relatives have been used to this type of situation and his reaction.

Others find it annoying and stop coming to him and there’s also some who like it better this way.

Either way, Sunghoon became their own dumpster of feelings.

Honestly, he has no problems with it. He finds it interesting listening to different experiences of various people around him. It actually puts a lot of things into perspective. Somehow these people unconsciously were able to help Sunghoon become mature and open minded like he is now.

Strangely enough, he doesn’t want to be silent today and just be someone who listens.

Sunghoon wants to have a proper conversation with Sunoo.

A man he just met earlier.

A beautiful one at that.

After thinking carefully, Sunghoon says,“It’s really not funny. It just means that you feel for the children that were with you then and the children who are probably going through the same thing as you somewhere around the world.”

Sunghoon paused and looked at the wilted sunflower before him, the sadness he radiated so palpable Sunghoon wanted to cut it with a knife.

“But Sunoo, don’t you think this is not your responsibility at all?” He paused thinking he might’ve sounded too direct and rude but still went on ahead when Sunoo looked at him questioningly.

“There is only so much you can do. You’ve done your part and your conscience is clean. I know I’m probably thinking wonderfully but, you should free yourself from the shackles of your past and start moving on slowly. It is not your fault and it will never be your fault. You worked hard to reach the life you currently have, don’t remove yourself from it just because you feel bad for others.”

“You’ve suffered too and it’s enough.”

As his last words fell through Sunoo’s ears, it was like a huge weight on his chest was finally lifted off. Not completely but still a progress.

Sunoo felt a hundred times lighter but he won’t tell Sunghoon that.

“Wait, am I speaking too much? Pardon my words if I say something bad?” Sunghoon hurriedly reacted when after talking a lot he didn’t hear any response from Sunoo, only that his eyes seemed to have brightened.

Only then did he realize that he may have talked too much.

After all, he doesn’t have the right to comment on someone’s life, especially how they should live it.

Also, they just met today!

Sunoo shakes his head with a smile, the corner of his eyes crinkle as he does. There was amusement on his face as he looked at Sunghoon’s rattled face.

“You didn’t say anything wrong. You actually said the right thing.” Sunoo sighed and put away his smile.

“It would be a lie if I say I didn’t try to focus on myself and just do what I can without feeling burdened about things I have no control over.”

The sound of waves splashing across the shore was a huge difference compared to the usual sound of cars beeping in the city.

It was calming and peaceful.

Reminding Sunoo that he’s still alive and how lucky he is about this life.

With a small smile, his eyes lowered, “It’s just as what a lot of people say, easier said than done. It’s just hard to do so when that part of my life was so significant I find it difficult to let go of.”

Sunoo sighed, cheering himself up and meeting Sunghoon’s inquisitive eyes filled with concern. “Anyway, as you’ve said, I’ve done my best. And I will continue to do so but I will also try not to be too caught up about it. As long as I’ve never forgotten where I came from then that’s fine.”

A small part inside Sunoo’s heart was touched about the way Sunghoon was looking at him. It was hard to say what expression he was making but Sunoo was sure it wasn’t one with pity.

Sunghoon was genuinely concerned and proud of him, especially at his last words and how it brought out a huge relief for the both of them.

A lull of silence passed before Sunoo awkwardly laughed, “Anyway don’t mind me. I think I just broke the vibe or something?”

Sunghoon hurriedly shakes his head, “You didn’t break anything, it was not you it was me.”

Right away Sunoo understood what Sunghoon meant and he rolled his eyes. Exasperated at how much Sunghoon wanted to take accountability for the matter.

“Stubborn as hell. What I meant was I was here to relax and enjoy, not be dramatic over every little thing.” Sunoo said and finished his sausage before trying to break the stick and fold it in half.

Only for Sunghoon to take it away and effortlessly break that stick like it was nothing.

The action once again caught Sunoo off guard, his wide eyes as he stared at Sunghoon was very cute and had Sunghoon almost wanting to reach out and touch.

Sunghoon averted his eyes and ignored Sunoo’s expression. He turned his face towards the ocean and over the horizon, with a soft sigh, “Well, the sea has always been associated with sadness, longing and parting. Those examples have negative connotations, so what you felt earlier is just normal. Let’s just blame it on the sea for pulling such emotions from you.”

Silence.

When that beat of silence followed after Sunghoon said such a thing, embarrassment slowly crept on him as his face and ears started to turn red.

Fuck! Maybe I shouldn’t have said that? What if he thought I’m trying hard to be something I am not?!

Sunoo’s exclamation had worsen Sunghoon’s embarrassment.“Wow, I never expected that you could say such words.”

Trying to play it off as cool, Sunghoon schools his face and asks. “Why?”

Sunoo stared at Sunghoon’s blushing cheeks and said. “Because you don’t look like one.” He’s really endearing blushing like this.

Sunghoon whipped his head fast, “Because I’m young?” Sunoo can easily spot how his eyes shake because he was staring at Sunghoon. How his throat bobs after asking the question.

Is being young a sin? Why is Sunghoon so disturbed about it?

Sunoo's placating smile calms down the distracting thoughts inside Sunghoon’s mind.

“I don’t judge someone’s maturity through their age. We all have different upbringings after all. It’s just based on your appearance I thought you were the type who just listens and is not wordy at all.”

“Well, you’re not wrong. Normally, I am that type of person. But,” Sunghoon paused and looked at Sunoo quietly, “I feel like talking with you a bit longer.”

Taken aback,“Is it because of me?”

Sunghoon nodded slowly, their eyes meeting. “Yeah, because of you.”

They spent a moment staring at each other’s eyes without saying anything at all.

Sunghoon, why am I so drawn to you? I just met you hours ago and here I am being bewitched by your eyes. There’s just something about you that makes me not want to go away.

Sunoo, I should stop this. I don’t go for men younger than me. Especially 10 years! That’s insane! But why can’t I seem to look away?

Sunoo playfully snorted, “Typical childish behavior blaming someone else.”

Like his tail being touched by a stranger, Sunghoon denied. “Who’s childish? I am not!”

“See? You’re being childish!” Sunoo bits back a laugh at how Sunghoon’s eyes darkened and lips pursed at being called childish.

He’s really too young!

Exasperated,“Why do you like to bring up my age so badly in every situation?”

Sunoo tilted his head in wonder,“Do I? I don’t remember.”

“Heh, of course you won’t. You’re thirty after all.” Implying that he was too old and his memory is starting to weaken.

This time Sunoo was the one getting frustrated. “What’s wrong with being thirty?!” His face flushing from the implication.

“Then what’s wrong with being twenty?!”

In a stalemate about their bickering of being younger and old, the two ended up laughing loudly at the absurdity of such petty fights.

Sunghoon grabbing his white towel to cover his face as he laughs and Sunoo turning to the side and laughing.

This is so immature of them!

Sunoo can already picture their future together, it will always be a constant fight of being young and old. Their age will always be brought to the table at every argument.

Future together? Wait-what? No, that’s nothing. I didn’t think that!

After composing himself, Sunoo turned back and straightened his body. Eyes flickering from places to places, “This is embarrassing. People are looking at us.”

Sunghoon reached for his glasses and wore them again,“Blame yourself. If you weren’t such a tease!”

“Don’t act like you don’t enjoy teasing me too!” Sunoo counterback.

“Let’s just call it quits.” Sunghoon nonchalantly said.

“Why am I even putting up with this with you?!” Sunoo muttered to himself.

“Ask yourself.”

“Such a kid!”

Sunghoon sprang from where he was lying, clearly offended.“I heard that! Wow, your attitude really changes so fast. Earlier you were close to crying and now you're evilly laughing at me as you tease me. Wow, very mature of you.”

Sunoo laughs quietly,“Thank you! We’re the same.”

“Not quite.”

They continue to bicker some more. Like two people who have known each other for a long time. Not like someone who just met hours ago.

It’s actually strange to have such affinity towards a person you just met once. Especially at a very distant and foreign place.

But as Sunoo continues to anger Sunghoon, the other does the same to him. Not an ounce of fear or anything was detected within himself.

Sunoo genuinely feels nothing negative about Sunghoon and it actually scares him so much if he thinks it through.

Right now as he sips his mango shake to relieve some heat, eyes gazing at the blue water and waves splashing, Sunoo pushes all the things that needed thinking and quietly enjoys his peace.

He’ll worry about it later like a mature person should.

Minutes later, they found themselves settling in and minding their own business. Sunoo had his ipad with him and was sketching something, head bowed as he does, concentrating.

While Sunghoon had used his arms as a pillow, still wearing the sunglasses and resting silently. Sunoo isn’t sure if he’s awake or asleep.

They sat in comfortable silence like they didn’t just argue minutes ago. The peaceful atmosphere was opposite of what they were earlier but it wasn’t so difficult to imagine.

Sunoo likes this atmosphere.

Like he’s not alone.

“Hey, let me ask you a question.” So he’s not asleep.

“You’re already asking a question.” Sunoo replied, hands quick as he sketches.

“…”

Sunoo bit his lower lip at Sunghoon’s silence. Cute. “Sure, go ahead , what is it?”

“Why do you still look so young?”

That-Sunoo didn’t expect to hear such a question.

It had him pausing what he was doing, with his knees bent serving as his table for his ipad, Sunoo turned his head and meet Sunghoon’s sunglass clad eyes.

“I’ll take that as a compliment?” He asked with a smile on his radiant face, the sight almost blinding Sunghoon, thankfully he was wearing his sunglasses.

Sunghoon gulps, grateful for the shade that was able to hide the heat in his eyes. “Yes it is. I’m just wondering if 10 years from now will I still look the same? Like you, still looking young?”

“You will.” Sunoo affirms.

“Really? Like ten years from now?” Sunghoon can’t believe it. He felt like Sunoo is one of those lucky ones.

Sunoo nodded his head with a smile,“Yes. As long as you’re not addicted to smoking or alcohol then yes Park Sunghoon, ten years later you will still look good and young.”

And he wasn’t saying it just for show. Sunoo truly believes that even 20 years later Sunghoon will still look good. As long as he doesn’t abuse himself, it won’t be a surprise if he still looks the same but a bit aged as everyone will.

Sunoo was almost finished with his sketch when he hadn’t heard any response from Sunghoon for a while.

Curious, he lifted his head and looked at Sunghoon’s way only to be greeted by his huge smirk. He looks like he just won the lotto, he looks so genuinely happy that it puzzled Sunoo.

What’s going on?

“What’s with the smirk?” Sunoo can’t help but inquire.

“You said I look good.” Sunghoon answered, his tone a bit higher. Happier and bragging than usual.

Just telling him he looks good already made him like this? Like a dog who just got pet by his owner that had his tail wagging back and forth?

Why is Sunghoon so silly and cute?

“Well I'm not blind?” Sunoo shrugged and stated matter of factly.

Although he wasn’t one to socialize much because of his anxiety, it doesn’t mean that Sunoo wasn’t able to see much of the world.

And also as an artist he has his own standard when it comes to beauty and Sunghoon honestly surpasses it easily.

He’s one of the rare ones.

Sunghoon says smugly,“So, I’m good looking huh. Then rate my handsomeness.”

Sunoo mocked,“What are you a kid?”

But Sunghoon wasn’t having none of it, he just waved his hand in denial. “Yeah yeah whatever, I just want to know.”

Sunoo crossed his arms,“On a scale of what?” He felt like humoring this kid.

“1 to 100.”

Heh, Sunoo wanted to wipe that smirk off of his handsome face so bad!

Sunoo raised his eyebrows, tilted his head to the side and scrunched his face, thinking seriously before saying. “I’ll be generous, so 95!”

Instead of feeling happy about how high his score was, Sunghoon sat upright and faced Sunoo sideways. “That’s five points away from perfect. Where did the last points go?” He grumbled, disbelief in his voice. He was so upset that he removed his sunglasses and stared at Sunoo waiting for his explanation.

Really a kid.

“Because of your mouth.”

Offended, Sunghoon yells,“My mouth? What’s wrong with it?”

“It pisses me off.” Sunoo deadpans. Face serious with no hint of smile or teasing.

When deep down he was trying so hard not to laugh, especially when he can almost visibly see the way Sunghoon’s wagging tail abruptly stopped at his words.

He looked so defeated, like his favorite toy was being stolen by someone.

Sunoo almost regretted teasing the kid but only for a moment. He wanted to get back at him no matter how petty it sounds.

“Foul! We’re talking about outer appearance not including the inside. So, it must’ve been perfect without the deduction!” Sunghoon refuted, his eyebrows meeting in the middle, lips pursing in denial.

He really can’t accept that he’s not 100. Like look at him? Who could dare say he’s not a 100?

Sunghoon has the height, the face, muscles and abs. He’s the literal adonis and no one can say otherwise.

It’s probably because he got used to being fawned over since he was young because of his handsomeness. How a lot of people regardless of gender tried to block his way in school to confess or leave tons of love letters in his locker that a situation like this arising feels so wrong to him.

Sunoo pops the p and shakes his head as a no, “Nope! Everything is interconnected, Park Sunghoon.”

“I don’t accept it!” Sunghoon yells and stomps his feet on the sand, scattering it a bit.

Sunoo chuckles, “Whatever floats your boat.”

Not pleased by his nonchalance, Sunghoon scooted forward and pushed Sunoo lightly, “There there, look at that guy, compared to me who looks better.”

“Oh!” Sunoo exclaims.

“Yeah, oh! I’m asking you who looks better?” Sunghoon looked at Sunoo’s face as he scans the person Sunghoon pointed for him to compare.

From the side Sunghoon can perfectly see Sunoo’s long and thick lashes, his beautiful brown eyes and pink cheeks from the heat. His lips are not the least bit dry due to his constant sipping of the mango shake. Instead it was a bit moist and plump, tempting someone who’s looking to come close and take a bite.

And that someone is currently clenching his fist on the side to control himself.

“Personally, based on my type. I will go with-wait, let me look again.” Sunoo’s sudden talk manages to take Sunghoon away from his devilish thoughts.

In broad daylight too!

“I’ll go with him! He looks better than you!” Sunoo teases and giggles at Sunghoon playfully. His pearly white teeth are in full display for Sunghoon to see.

It really took a lot from Sunghoon to stop himself from reaching out and do something embarrassing. So, he tried to hide it and snorted. “Stop lying. Do you have myopia? You said that guy is better looking than me?”

“My eyes are 20/20!” Sunoo blinks back his eyes and opens them wide to show that his eyes are in perfect condition and he wasn’t saying things.

“Then there must’ve been something wrong with your brain.”

“Oh shut up!”

There must be something wrong with your brain because there certainly is something wrong with mine.

My brain and heart isn’t functioning well and wired correctly.

Because why, just why am I so drawn by you?
