Chapter 1: Little Lamb

Chapter Text

Hinata fell over nothing, bumping into Kageyama, as the bus taking them to Sugawara's house party took a sudden stop to pick up more passengers into the already crowded bus.

Kageyama grabbed him by the waist before he dropped to the floor with a hint of amusement, knowing the reason behind Hinata's wobbly stance.

"I thought you said pre-drinking before leaving was gonna be fun, I feel like I'm going to black out the next shot I take." Hinata complained quietly with an involuntary burp following in suit, making a tipsy Kageyama chuckle.

"That's the whole point." He stated matter a factly with a loopy smile. Hinata always noticed Kageyama was a lot more happy when he was intoxicated, hell he'd even say substances made him more happier than volleyball would, maybe that's why Hinata has been spending more of his time getting drunk and stuff with him then playing volleyball like they used too.

Though Hinata enjoyed laughing, and drinking with Kageyama more than getting yelled at by him during practice, he had also noticed his mom was growing increasingly disappointed in him for staying out late, finding out by the stench of alcohol, and cigarettes on his clothes that it's not just volleyball that has been keeping him busy.

"If you don't black out at a party then you're not doing it right." Kageyama said unconsciously snapping Hinata out of the dialogue running through his head.

"What's the point of going out if I won't even remember it?!" Hinata argued, laughing at the obscure fact Kageyama stated.

"𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽: 𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗘-𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗘 𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗨𝗘" the intercom stated catching the attention of the two teenagers.

"That's our stop." Kageyama pulled out his phone to text their friends, telling them they were on their way as they both exited the transit bus, they left with steady steps in order to not fall over, avoiding making themselves look like fools, or worse, getting the police called on them for underaged drinking.

"Where do we go now?" Hinata asked Kageyama who was leaning over his phone unsteadily.

"Daichi said he's getting someone to come pick us up from here." Kageyama informed Hinata, sitting himself at the bus stop bench, trying not to fall over with Hinata doing the same not too long after.

"Do y'know who is picking us up?" Hinata asked as he leaned his head back, closing his eyes to ease his heavy head.

"I don't know, but I'll ask." Kageyama replied, opening up his phone once again.

Shouyou listened to the audible clicking on Kageyama's phone as he typed away, bobbing his head up sluggishly when he suddenly felt an unsettling urge to look forward. Looking up he noticed a lamb across the street, which was weird...

Considering they aren't that commonly spotted in the middle of a suburban area in Japan, he looked over at Kageyama to check if he was seeing the same shit he was witnessing, only to find out his friend was occupied on his phone, unbothered, Hinata looked back at the grazing lamb, except there was a wolf behind it this time.

"Kageyama..." Hinata whispered as he patted his arm to catch his attention, keeping his eyes fixed on the two animals.

"Hold on." Kageyama replied nonchalantly, raising one of his hands to indicate Hinata to wait a moment, Hinata unintentionally placing his hand on his forearm.

Hinata considered the fact that he was laced by the random homeless man they had used to get their drinks from the vender, he examined his drink to check for any suspicious signs that they've been tampered with only to find none.

Though he thought he was just hallucinating, he still kept his guard up, just incase the wild animal was real and decided that they were better, filling prey.

As soon as the thought of getting attacked crossed his mind, the wolf jumped at the unexpected lamb, and within an instant it was ripped into shreds.

Hinata stood up in shock, gasping as he watched the lamp yelp and squeal, each layer of its skin was torn apart layer by layer, his pure white wool turned a gruesome red from it's own blood, the lamb looked up at Hinata, as if it was crying for help, howling one last time before its vocal cords were shredded by the unapologetic animal, it feasted upon its insides after tearing up the poor lamb inside out, who could only watch and feel the wolf feed on its insides as it slowly died, unfairly.

Kageyama jumped at Hinata's previous action, compelling him to ask;

"What's wrong?" Kageyama looked over where Hinata stared blank at, a bus suddenly drove by, and just like as if he made up the entire thing in his head, everything was gone, from the disfigured corpse, to the brutal wolf, it was gone. Like a curtain at a school play. The scene had been completely changed.

The guts of the lamb and the feasting beast disappeared within a blink of an eye, leaving Hinata thinking he was crazy.

"Do you have any xanax?" He asked abruptly ignoring the former question, widen eyes turned to Kageyama who stayed seated on the bench.

"No..?" Hinata sighed as he sat back down beside Kageyama, trying to act normal after the strange scene he had "made up" in his head, he stared forward where he witnessed the "incident" occur as he listened to Kageyama continue on with their new conversation.

"You can ask Tanaka when he picks us up.” Kageyama replied, ignoring Hinata's strange actions, considering his friend had a weird personality.

"I didn't know Tanaka had a license?" Hinata commented with a raised brow,

"he doesn't." Kageyama replied with a dry chuckle.

"Oh, that's not concerning." Shouyou sarcastically added, turning his head over at Kageyama, placing his hands inside his jacket pockets, starting a new conversation before they were left with awkward silence.

"Do y'know if this is an actual party, or is it just one of those failed party attempts where theres only, like ten people, two bottles and a twelve pack?" Hinata questioned.

Kageyama laughed a bit before answering,

"If it's Sugawara's party I'm pretty sure they'll be more people, and drinks.” Tobio explained, opening his backpack to pull out the bottle him and Hinata were able to steal from his father’s private mini bar, taking a quick shot.

"Be careful pulling that thing out!" Hinata jumped, looking around cautiously for any bystanders that might care about teenagers illegally consuming alcohol in public.

"Relax, I know you probably won't know this since you live closer to the country, but seeing drunk teenagers out around here is not an uncommon sight." Kaygeyama vowed as he threw his head back to took a quick swing of the bottle of vodka before continuing,

"just stay out of peoples property's and watch out for cops."

Hinata nodded at Kaygeyamas advice with uncertainty as he grabbed the bottle that was being passed to him.

"do you have any chase?" Hinata questioned, holding the bottle close to his mouth to take the shot.

"Yeah, hold on.." Kageyama replied, digging through his bag once again to pull out a soda, opening it for his friend before passing it to him after he had drank the alcohol, Hinata grimaced, chugging the soda to help his tastebuds wash out the lingering, bitter taste and the burning sensation in his throat from the vodka.

"HONK!" A car honked as it pulled up beside them.

"Hey! You shouldn't be drinking that!" A deep faceless voice shouted from the distance, Hinata flinched and was close to booking it with the uncapped bottle of vodka, and the opened soda can in hand while Kageyama turned over at the mystery person, suddenly turning his confused glare into a slight smile.

"Holy shit! you scared the crap out of me Tanaka..." Hinata sighed in relief as he realized it was just Tanaka who was shamelessly laughing at the shaken up second years, pulling up next to them in a small black vehicle.

Kageyama followed Hinata inside the backseat of the black car.

"Are you already drunk?" Hinata asked unimpressed, noticing Tanakas flushed cheeks and slurred speech.

"Don't worry, I drive better when I'm drunk." Tanaka reassured his underclassman amusingly, driving onto the curve when attempting to turn around.

"If we die, our blood will be on your hands." Kageyama laughed at Tanakas concerning driving, as Hinata buckled up for extra measures.

"Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me but apparently I heard that Oikawa got some girl pregnant." Tanaka dismissed Kageyamas previous comment, spilling some gossip he had overheard earlier, causing a great reaction from the two others.

"What? Isn’t he dating Iwaizumi!?" Hinata gasped in disbelief.

"He WAS dating Iwaizumi." Tanaka corrected, indicating that they had broken up over the situation.

"What a slut, Iwaizumi didn't deserve that! Did the girl keep it?" Kageyama laughed, somehow finding the story amusing.

"No I heard that she is an honour student and didn't want to ruin her future, I guess." Tanaka replied. They all continued to fill the silence with shit talk the entire ride to Sugawaras to pass the time.

Blasting music could be heard from the outside of the crowded house, Hinata was never not impressed with how big Sugawaras house was, and what made it even better was that the next door neighbours were almost a mile away.

You wouldn't even be able to tell his house was in the same neighbourhood as the overpopulated houses up the street, you also wouldn't be able to see it right away as it was surrounded by trees that led to the forest.

"I can't get over how nice Sugas house is man." Kageyama voiced Hinatas thoughts, throwing the lit cigarette he'd been smoking previously onto the gravel, butting it out with the bottom of his shoe.

Tanaka agreed, complaining how it wasn't fair that Sugawara was also able to have the big house all to himself most of the time, because how busy his parents were.

Hinata thought it'd actually be quite lonely having such a big place to yourself all the time, but he'd never say it out loud. Afraid to be called lame or something like that.

Walking into the party you could already tell everybody was pretty fucked up. The potent smell of alcohol and weed swarmed the atmosphere, random teenagers mingled with each other, laughter and conversation filled the nonexistent silence as the music blared from large speakers placed inside the living room and dining room.

Through the crowd of people they were able to spot Asahi and Daichi grabbing more drinks for themselves out of the fridge, making there way towards the two Hinata noticed Oikawa gleefully chatting with a small group of people in the living room, he was quick to point him out to Kageyama who only looked at the man and back at Hinata with wide eyes and an amused expression.

"I guess the rumours are still fresh if he's still able to show his face out in public." Hinata cockily stated, earning a chuckle from Kageyama.

Hinata couldn't help but feel bad, knowing that Oikawa most likely didn't know that the people close to him were talking shit about him after it was revealed that Mattsun, and Makki were the ones who had passed the message on to Tanaka out of spite.

Ironically enough the two culprits were apart of the group that was talking to Oikawa, but at the end of the day Hinata knows he deserves it so he chose to ignore how fake Mattsun and Makki were being.

"Hey guys!" Daichi greeted the three boys approaching him as Asahi, waving them over from a far.

"You didn't crash my car, did you?" Asahi asked Tanaka, concerned about his vehicles safety.

"Don't worry Asahi! I made sure to take good care of her." Tanaka slapped the big guys back reassuringly, tossing him the keys in the process.

"Didn't you drive her into the curb?" Hinata snitched amusingly, Asahi glared at Tanaka who was quick to slap a hand over Shouyous mouth, laughing nervously before saying. "What a crazy accusation Shoyo!"

"Heyyyy Hinata, Kageyama you guys made it!" A familiar voice shouted from behind, catching the attention of the guys being yelled at.

"Bokuto! I haven't seen you in forever." Hinata was quick to reply, embracing Bokuto in a hug that lasted for at least a quick second.

"Hey Akaashi." Hinata greeted the other tailing Bokuto from behind, hugging him as well as the others started their own conversation.

Except Hinata noticed Akaashi lingered into the embrace a little more than Bokuto did, reluctantly ignoring it he just thought he was already really drunk and just needed something to lean on.

"It's nice to see you again, Hinata." Akaashi said under his breath, loud enough to hear coherently through the loud atmosphere.

"Let's go upstairs and play some pool~!" Bokuto chimed, wrapping his arms around Akaashi and Shouyous necks to lead them towards the staircase.

"Sugawara and them are playing upstairs." Bokuto continued as he led the group to the game room.

Going up the stairs Hinata spotted Kenma out of the corner of his eye, seemingly waiting for someone in the bathroom, he nervously hid his face away from the other hoping he didn't see him as well.

Normally he would've jumped off the stairs just to greet his best friend, but lately it had been really awkward between the two after a disagreement they've had not to long ago, though they both agreed that they didn't hate each other it was still really hard to act like they're argument never happened. He just hope they don't accidentally bump into one another later on.

Successfully making it to the game room without being seen by Kenma, Hinata knew he needed a drink to forget about the situation he'd gotten himself into previously, vowing he would make this night fun for himself, he forced the bitter emotions to leave with another shot after greeting some other friends of his.

"Are there any drinks in here?" Hinata asked out loud, avoiding a trip back downstairs to grab more booze. The backpack filled with booze that him and Kageyama had brought earlier was already empty by the time he’d gotten to it.

"Heyy Hinata! theres some in this cooler here." Terushima shouted from the couch facing the pool table, pulling said cooler closer to him to present it to Shouyou.

Hinata almost skipped towards the cooler, plopping himself next to Terushima on the leather couch after grabbing himself a cold one.

"Long time no see!" Hinata shouted blithely, happy to see his old drinking buddy. Hinata and Terushima weren't close at all when they were sober, but they've drank together so much in his first year, and with other people of course, that at one point he just started to consider him as a close friend.

"I know right! I haven't been seeing you around lately." Terushima implied, reminding Hinata of all the drama he's been through these past months.

"Yeah...My mom has been keeping me on lockdown after she found Kageyamas stash in my closet." Shouyou sighed, remembering the heart attack he had that day.

"Is that why you and Kageyama weren't talking to each other for a while?" Terushima asked, leaning back as he lit a cigarette.

"How did you know that!?" Shouyou twisted his head over, almost spitting out his drink. Terushima only shrugged.

"Word gets around, and you guys are literally inseparable it's always obvious when you guys get into arguments." He stated, Hinata rolled his eyes.

"Yeah it was, he thought I was mad at him." Shouyou continued, signaling Yūji to pass the cigarette along.

"Were you?" Terushima curiously asked. Hinata knew to watch his mouth around Yūji, because even if they were friends Terushima is the type to run his mouth.

"Not really, but I wish he told me it was in there in the first place." Shouyou lied about how he really felt about the situation, even if he was pissed that he got in trouble he couldn't stay mad at Kageyama for the life of him.

Terushima nodded in agreement before changing the subject, Hinata figured Yūji found he couldn't get any shit talk out of him so he changed the subject. Shouyou doesn't know how he can still put up with these guy's bullshit.

"You wanna go play ping pong?" Terushima asked enthusiastically, suddenly remembering that Sugawara had a huge room full of games.

Shouyou agreed but wanted to shotgun a can before playing. Terushima kindly opened the cooler to grab him one, only to find melted ice and zero drinks.

"We're out." Terushima announced earning a faint "noooo" from Hinata.

"Whatever, let's go playy!" Hinata rolled his eyes once again before cheerfully shouting.

After an hour of playing ping pong, vintage arcade games, and a little bit of pool Hinata finally realized his buzz was being killed from exhaustion. He craved for more booze so he reluctantly went on an adventure to find himself some more alcohol.

He attempted to bring Kageyama with him, but noticed how invested he was into the card game he was playing with Yamaguchi, and Tsukishima and decided not to bother.

Dragging himself towards the hallway he was suddenly stopped by Tanaka, blocking the door like as if Hinata was going to run away.

"I got those pills you asked for." Ryuu proudly presented the baggie containing the pills Hinata had forgotten he had asked for earlier, remembering the random lamb and wolf he seen. What the fuck was that about?

"Thanks Tanaka.", Hinata replied distantly, staring at the bag debating if he should even consume another pill, considering the fact that it might be the xanax's and substances that been causing him to hallucinate.

"You good?" Tanaka snapped Hinata out of his rapid inner dialogue, reminding him why he needed xanax.

"Yeah sorry I must've zoned out, thanks." Shouyou lightly push Tanaka out of the way, whispering a small apology for the sudden shove that Tanaka luckily didn't take offensively.

Making his way to the kitchen fridge he had finally gotten a drink, he was about to enjoy his can when lo and behold, Kenma, and Kuroo following Yaku and Lev from behind, the two people he wanted to avoid the most that night was in the same room as him.

"Hinata!" Lev merrily shouted, stumbling his way into a big hug almost causing Shouyou to spill his drink.

"Where have you been?!" Lev asked being aware of the little gingers disappearance at gatherings lately.

"Hey guys! I haven't been allowed out for a while now." Hinata nervously smiled, feeling an overwhelming sensation slowly grow in his stomach.

"Oh my god, let's chug together! Let's see who'll finish first." Lev pointed out the drink Hinata was carrying, dismissing his previous question, and Hinata being the competitive soul he was, he was quick to take on the challenge though he did want to leave the room right away, noticing the awkward body language Kenma and Kuroo were giving off.

"Lev you already drank to much!" Yaku scolded Haiba who only ignored the smaller man, clicking his drink against Hinatas who enabled him to drink more by yelling "cheers!"

After winning their little competition, Hinata wanted to find an excuse out of this uncomfortable position.

"See you! I need fresh air" Shouyou left as fast as he could before Lev and Yaku could even say bye, confusing the two. Embarrassingly enough he accidentally knocked into Kuroo bumping himself into Kenma, Kenma caught him instinctively before he could fall over, blushing furiously, he mumbled an apology loud enough to hear through the speakers before running off.

Once he finally made it outside, he was met with the soft smell of greenery, crickets chirped in the distance and the breeze made it easier to breathe, easing his anxiety but not enough. He was quick to pop a pill dry without even looking at the pill he had taken, when suddenly he remembered the empty cooler upstairs, deciding to be useful he approached the freezer kept on the outside patio to grab another case.

He opened the large freezer door to pick up the drinks, when he heard a faint sob from afar.

Hinata curiously followed the noises coming from the side of the house, expecting to find some emotional drunk. Though he didn't really feel like comforting some random drunk he felt the need to console this lonely person, he also felt it'd make a funny story if the intoxicated person's reaction to being comforted was amusing.

When surprisingly enough, he found the person he was least expecting to be sitting there crying, Oikawa.

"Hey Tanaka, did you give Hinata his xannys." Kageyama asked Ryuu as they shared a joint.

"Yeah he forgot to pay but—wait xannys?" He cut himself off, whirling his head towards Kageyama in disbelief.

"Yeah?" Kageyama replied, confused as hell.

"I might've given him something else." Tanaka explained in dismay, resulting in the both of them leaning forward, concerned. High as fuck, they didn't really know how to process this new information.

"He should be fine." They both leaned back, comforting themselves with delusion in order not to ruin their high.
