In the aftermath of Praimfaya, Clarke Griffin, the former Skaikru princess and commander of death, is left reeling after being abandoned by the man she loved, Bellamy Blake, for five long years. He needed to leave to take care of their people and ride out the deadly heatwave. Clarke needed him to step up and take care of their people while she climbed the tower and manually pulled the lever. Clarke knew it had to be done, she had to be sacrificed once again, but some part of her still broke a little at the fact that Bellamy didn't even try to stop her. Clarke's world finally feels right again after Spacekru comes back to Earth and Roan helped set Wonkru free from the bunkers.
When everyone is reunited, Clarke waits to be acknowledged by the man she still loves, only for Bellamy to propose to his secret girlfriend, a former Ice Nation spy, right in front of her. Heartbroken and humiliated, Clarke finds solace in the unexpected comfort of Roan, the former king of Azgeda, who has been a political ally to Skaikru.
