Chapter Text
{I won’t lie to you; I know he’s just not right for you. You can tell me if I'm off but I see it on your face when you say that he’s the one that you want.}
Cube fiddled with his watch as he waited. For the bus, but mostly for Mid. She had spent the night at her boyfriends, and he was worried. As many times as she promised he didn’t hurt her, that didn’t stop his anxiety.
Late November wind whipped around him, and he pulled his hands into his sleeves. He could see his breath in the air as he blew upwards to try and warm his nose. He was freezing, and the bus was late. Hey, maybe Planet would actually catch the bus this time.
As if on que, Planet sprinted up to him, panting and bag half open and trailing papers.
“Did I make it?” he panted, leaning against Cube’s shoulder. He wasn’t wearing a coat, but there was sweat on his forehead regardless.
“Yep, can’t say the same for your science paper.” Cube offered, sacrificing his fingers to the cold to point at the binder of paper laying maybe fifty meters off to the left.
Planet yanked his backpack off his back and stared it in shock as he saw it wide open.
“You better hurry.” Cube suggested, pointing to where the bus was coming around the corner. Gasping, Spoke dropped his bag and sprinted towards the paper, leaving Cube alone. He let his face fall. Where was Mid?
---*----*----*----*----*
The stench of vaping floated downwind from the back of the school toward Cube, and taking a breath of clean air, he summoned all his courage and slunk up to the corner of the school. Peaking his head around the corner, it felt like a punch to the gut.
Three boys, one of which he recognized as Leo, were crowded around Mid. One was wearing all black except his headband, which was rainbow, and another he couldn’t place, who was wearing all lavender.
He watched with shock and horror as Leo took a drag of the vape and blew it in Mid’s face, laughing with the others as she coughed at the smoke.
Rage was a bright as the spark on the vape as he stepped out from where he was hiding. As Leo and the other two turned to him, they seemed to suck the words out of his mouth.
“Cube?” Mid asked, from where she was pressed against the wall.
“Get.” Leo muttered.
“Leave her alone.” he forced out, hands shaking. He took a step forward, and fought every instinct telling him to run back as Leo too took a step forward.
“She wants to be here. We want her to be here. We don’t want you to be here.”
“Cube, go, please.” Mid called, looking desperately over at him. There was something. Something that told him to run. He didn’t want to listen, but he didn’t have a choice. He took a step back, and Leo grinned.
“who are you, Leo?”
