Chapter 1: Drunken Antics

Chapter Text

When you find yourself at a point where you wonder how the hell you got to where you are, you can usually backtrack it to one big, impactful decision. Or, in Aventurine’s case, one irresponsible, breathtakingly stupid decision.

Cocktail parties were things that the Stoneheart had a love-hate relationship with. They could be fun, with the right people. Though, as of this moment, these most certainly were not the right people. After the Penacony fiasco, he and Ratio had gone their separate ways to return to their day to day lives in their respective fields. Aventurine had started his plotting with Boothill to find Oswaldo, and Ratio went back to Veritas Prime to resume his lectures at the University. Not even a couple weeks later, and it seemed the two of them couldn’t remain apart for long.

A gala was held each year on Veritas Prime to celebrate the academic achievements of the staff, and was happily funded by the IPC. The Intelligentsia Guild was always in attendance, and given the nature of how absurdly boring these events could be, Ratio didn’t intend on suffering alone. One well placed call was all it took for an invitation to be extended to the head of the Strategic Investment Department. It was far too easy, really.

So now, here he was. Aventurine leaned against the bar, a cocktail in hand. At first, he had mingled around a little, and made his presence known, just to irritate Ratio and try to stir the pot by bringing up embarrassing moments of their Penacony excursion. That grew to be a pointless task, as the peers that his partner had been surrounded by were all of the same, unhumorous mind. All they wanted to discuss were research papers, publications, and upcoming changes in the scientific communities. All valiant topics, but none that Aventurine had any particular interest in.

Some of the other Guild members approached him here and there between drinks, mostly to inquire about potential funding opportunities through the Strategic Investment Department. Truth be told, Aventurine wouldn’t remember any of them by the time the night was over, so he just handed out his business card each time a proposal came his way.

Looking back on it, that was probably the only smart decision he made that night.

By the time Ratio had managed to break away from the other attendees to grab himself his first drink of the evening, Aventurine was on his… wait, how many drinks did he have again? The Avgin couldn’t even recall, but at least the one he was sipping on was really good. Nice and citrusy, almost like the bubbling SoulGlad he’d sampled a few times.

“Unbelievable…” Ratio crossed his arms over his chest as he found Aventurine barely keeping himself functional. The blonde had a drink in one hand and his head resting in the other, cheeks flush from the intoxication. “Is this party boring you to the point of borderline alcoholism?”

Aventurine perked up at the sound of the scholar’s voice and he swiveled around in the bar stool to face him, nearly spilling some of his drink in the process. “Ratio~ I was wondering when the vultures would finally let you go.”

“These vultures are my esteemed colleagues,” Ratio spat back, although his tone held no true malice. “You’d do well to remember that, gambler.”

“Sure,” Aventurine lilted teasingly. “And I’m totally sober right now.”

Ratio groaned and dragged his palm down his face before harshly gesturing towards Aventurine. “Get a hold of yourself. This is a private, prestigious event. I didn’t invite you here so you could get plastered.” There was that harsh, criticizing professor attitude that Aventurine loved to pull out of him.

The gambler leaned his back against the bar and his eyes glinted with mischief. “Then why did you call me here, Ratio?” His warm chuckle held a hint of heaviness from the alcohol. “Surely you didn’t ask me here on business.

“It wasn’t the only reason,” Ratio conceded. “But it was one of them, yes.” He huffed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I expected a Stoneheart to be more responsible when handling an IPC affiliated event.”

“Relax, dear doctor~” Aventurine stood and left his drink on the bar. He took the two steps needed to encroach on Ratio’s personal space and slid a gloved hand up the mathematician’s torso. His fingertips purposefully stopped to trace the delicious window on his chest. “I handled my business already.” He tipped his head up to gaze into Ratio’s fiery amber and crimson eyes with a devious smirk to match his actions. “Your colleagues can be real suckups, you know that?”

Ratio scoffed, but Aventurine could see the amused flicker across his eyes. He snatched the Avgin’s wrist and removed his hand from his shirt. “Of course they are. Researchers need all the resources they can muster if they even have a slight fraction of hope in their projects succeeding.” He lectured the other with a little smile of his own. “Can you truly blame them for wanting to get in good graces with the head of the Strategic Investment division?”

“Of course not.” Aventurine chuckled and Ratio released his wrist. “I’m quite the opportunist myself. I admire someone willing to go the extra mile.”

The scholar couldn’t deny that seeing Aventurine's mischievous persona being complimented by the intoxicated warmth on his cheeks was incredibly attractive. Not to mention the charming rises and dips of his voice as he nonchalantly talked business and somehow managed to keep it flirtatious all the while.

“And what is your angle at the present moment, gambler?” Ratio noticed how Aventurine nearly stumbled at trying to readjust his stance. “Was your goal to cause a scene with brazen, drunk escapades and ruin the party?”

Laughter bubbled from Aventurine’s chest and he took one final step, one foot between both of Ratio’s so that he could be pressed up against the taller man. “Oh, I’m not trying to ruin the party,” He craned his neck and tilted his head to the side so that his warm breath tickled the scholar’s ear. “I’m trying to have you ruin me , doctor~” He nipped at Ratio’s earlobe. “Let’s get out of here, Ratio.”

Ratio sucked in a sharp gasp, but veiled it as a hiss as he pushed Aventurine away. “You idiot,” He softly scolded and glared at him. “You expect me to drop my responsibilities to be here so that I can satiate your perverted desires?”

“Why not? The party’s a total snoozefest anyway.” Aventurine chided. “Even I can tell you’re bored out of your mind. I’m just offering some… more stimulating activity~” He flashed a knowing grin. “What’s so wrong about that?”

Ratio felt a simmer of heat creeping into his face. “You’re insufferable.”

“Yeah?” Aventurine snickered, completely unapologetic of the situation. “What are you gonna do about it?”

The scholar bent down and muttered in a stern whisper, “I am going to politely excuse myself. You are going to wait for me in my car.” He fished the keys out of his pocket and dropped them into Aventurine’s hand. “Make so much as a single detour and I will ensure you wish you stayed in Pier Point. Am I clear?”

Aventurine shuddered and exhaled a shaky breath. “Crystal clear as always, doc.”

“Good,” Ratio purred, allowing the slight slip of seduction to ring in his voice. “Now, hurry along. I’ll be there in a moment.” He left a quick, soft kiss to the Avgin’s neck, just below his jaw, and realigned his posture. He tipped his head in a short nod then briskly walked off to speak to whoever he had to in order to make his absence known. This damned gambler, always stirring him into trouble. Though, he found that he quite liked it.

Aventurine made sure to grab his drink off the bar and down the rest of it as if it were his life on the line if he didn’t. No point in letting a good drink go to waste, right?

The ride back to Ratio’s home felt dreadfully long for it only being a couple blocks away. Aventurine’s clothes felt hot and he shifted uncomfortably in the passenger seat. The sexual tension in the air could have been cut with a butterknife. There was no background music to distract him, only the thrumming of the car’s engine as Ratio drove. To make matters better worse, one of the dear doctor’s firm hands found itself on his thigh, occasionally squeezing it when they were at a red light. A painfully sexy reminder of what was going to come of him when they got to their destination.

As soon as Ratio put the car in park, Aventurine was scrambling to unbuckle his seatbelt, and failed quite spectacularly a few times before finally managing to pull it off. He staggered out of the low-to-the-ground vehicle and did his best to gently close the door in his drunken haze.

When he met Ratio at the sidewalk to lead into the apartment complex, the doctor wrapped an arm around his waist, ensuring that Aventurine wouldn’t stumble and hurt himself. Although, despite the kind gesture, there was a hint of possessiveness in the way his hand hugged the gambler’s hip. As if to say you’re mine and you’re not going anywhere.

They briskly walk past the reception desk towards the elevators, the staff completely ignoring their presence. Ratio ushers Aventurine inside and quickly presses the button to his penthouse suite near the top floor.

Aventurine catches a glance at the button panel and his gut twists at realizing he has to wait thirty damn floors!

“Fuck that–” Aventurine groaned and whipped to face Ratio, grabbing two fistfuls of Ratio’s shirt and yanked him down into a sloppy, heated kiss.

Ratio vocalized his surprise for a brief second before growling and shoved him back against the elevator wall, seizing the kiss for himself. One hand dug into the silky locks on the back of Aventurine’s head and another pressed his hips against the cool metal surface to keep him still. The scholar tilted his head and deepened the kiss, unafraid to let out a low, satisfied moan.

This was far more entertaining than a cocktail party.

The speed of Ratio’s reaction left Aventurine’s head spinning – or maybe that was the alcohol. Either way, he wrapped his arms around the doctor’s neck and eagerly reciprocated the ferocity.

When they parted upon the elevator dinging to signal they arrived at the next floor, Ratio sucked in a sharp breath and immediately retracted. They shouldn’t have stopped on any floors. It’s far too late for that.

However, when the doors opened, no one was waiting to step in. Ratio raised a brow while exerting heavy breaths. His eyes flicked to the floor indicator. Second floor. What was going on? Was the elevator broken?

Aventurine’s bubbly laughter brought Ratio’s attention back to the gambler, and before he could even ask what he was laughing about, the smaller man stepped away from the wall and did his best to stifle his laughter.

Ratio had pinned him against the button panel, resulting in every floor up to forty being selected.

“Oh, that’s just grand.

Aventurine was still giggling like a fool, and Ratio was not in the mood for being playful about this. He took one long stride back to the blonde and backed him up to the adjacent wall this time, harshly pinning him and his gaze was filled with a sexy, ominous haze.

“Not a word, gambler.” Ratio spat and reached to hit the button to force the door closed. “If you insist on being a pest, then allow me to reprimand you accordingly.”

“What are you–” Aventurine gasped and accidentally threw his head back into the elevator wall as a firm hand cupped his half-hard cock through his pants. “Ah~”

That moan was music to Ratio’s ears, but he couldn’t have him making so much noise. In an instant, his other hand clasped over the blonde’s lips. “Shut your mouth, or I will find better ways to put it to use and leave you a whimpering mess the rest of the evening. Am I understood?”

Aventurine’s eyes were clouded with pure lust as he hummed delightfully at the light palming at his crotch. He responded with a quick nod and Ratio pulled his hand away from his mouth, allowing him to take in steadier breaths.

“If you make so much as a peep when those doors open, you will be punished. You so much as make a sound when I do not explicitly allow it,” Ratio’s nose brushed against Aventurine’s and relished in the shiver he saw riddle the gambler’s body. “And I will bend you over my desk you love to sit on and ensure you will not be able to sit anywhere for a long while.” The blonde’s breath hitched and Ratio felt his cock hardening beneath his hand.

“C-Copy that.” Aventurine panted and bucked his hips into Ratio’s touch.

Ratio dipped his head to the side so that he could trail kisses along the Avgin’s jaw and down his throat. He continued to rub at Aventurine’s cock, savoring the stifled moans and whines that fell from their lips.

“I invited you with the hopes my dear little gambler would behave himself and we could enjoy each other’s company,” Ratio’s breath fanned along the nape of Aventurine’s neck before leaving a delicious hickey there to be found the next morning. “Instead I got a stubborn, dirty brat that I have to teach a very important lesson about patience.”

“R-Ratio–”

Ding.

Aventurine choked on his words and Ratio halted his actions. The two of them sat in a very uncomfortable, heated silence. No voices outside. Good. Ratio resumed, but Aventurine remained painfully quiet. The scholar could practically feel the strained efforts it took for his partner to shut himself up.

As soon as the doors closed, Ratio chuckled and purred against Aventurine’s ear. “Good, it seems you can follow the rules.” He chided and licked at his pulse point in his throat. “When it suits you.”

Aventurine let out a high pitched moan and clung onto Ratio as he bared his neck to him. “Please, Ratio… I-I need more.”

“You get exactly what I give you and nothing more.” Ratio muttered, the gravitas of his voice rumbling against the other’s throat. “You were the one who could not wait, so do not be greedy.”

However, despite his remark, Ratio quickly unfastened Aventurine’s belt, the clattering of the metal buckle deafening over their heavy breathing. He dipped his fingers beneath the waistband of Aventurine’s boxers and pulled his cock free, exposing it to the chilling air of the elevator.

Aventurine hissed at the cold, but his body instinctively leaned into Ratio as his soft fingers gripped the base, slowly dragging it up the shaft to pull a pleased whine out of him.

As the elevator came to another stop, Ratio leaned in to steal a kiss from Aventurine to silence him when the doors opened. Their tongues danced with one another, and his free hand cupped the back of Aventurine’s head to keep him from hitting the elevator wall again.

It was touch and go, push and pull. Ratio had Aventurine shaking in the knees and he almost felt bad about edging him for nearly fifteen floors.

Almost.

But his delicious whines and pleading for release was a symphony that gave Ratio an unexpected high. This was vile, participating in such acts where they could be caught at any moment, and yet he couldn’t stop himself. Perhaps it was due to Aventurine goading him on at the cocktail party, or maybe it was the fact they hadn’t seen each other in weeks. Probably both.

Aventurine felt like he was going to explode. His cock was overly sensitive and the combination of Ratio’s hand pumping him and his lips claiming his neck was tearing him apart.

“Please,” Aventurine pleaded desperately. “I-I can’t–”

“Just a little longer.” Ratio coaxed him gently, slowing the strokes of his hand. “You are doing so good for me, Aventurine.”

The blonde shuddered and held tightly onto Ratio’s shoulders. Moans were tumbling out at any given opportunity, and it was becoming harder and harder to keep his mouth shut each time he heard that god-forsaken ding of the elevator.

The doors opened, and this time Ratio allowed Aventurine some reprieve. He immediately pressed the ‘close door’ button and the second he did, he ramped up the speed of his hand. He squeezed Aventurine’s cock just the way he liked it and teased the tip each time his hand met it.

“Now.” Ratio ordered in a hushed murmur against the other’s ear. “Come for me, Kakavasha.”

“Veritas!” Aventurine sobbed in pure bliss as he was thrown over the edge. His cock twitched and the man leaned into Ratio as he shot ropes of white all over the doctor’s black tunic beneath the open robes. Ratio continued to stroke him, milking him through his climax until the Avgin slowly came down from his high and sagged against him.

Ratio placed a tender kiss atop Aventurine’s head and he whispered sweet praises into his partner’s hair. Once they both were able to calm down, Ratio carefully tucked Aventurine back into his pants and re-buckled the belt for him. The blonde leaned against him, completely wiped out and heavily breathing into the doctor’s chest.

“Mm.. what about you?” Aventurine murmured and Ratio chuckled.

“Not to worry, gambler.” He reassured him with a teasing lilt. “I accounted for your antics. Your invitation lasts a few more days.” Ratio rubbed his hand against Aventurine’s lower back. “There will be plenty of time for that. Though, I advise we keep it in the comfort of my apartment next time.”

Aventurine laughed weakly and nuzzled his cheek against Ratio’s shoulder. “Aw, come on~ This was fun.”

“We are never doing that again. I doubt you’ll even remember it come morning.” Ratio smirked and glanced down at the blonde, who snorted a laugh.

“I’ll make you come by morning~”

“Oh for the love of–” Ratio swatted Aventurine, who burst into warm laughter. The scholar couldn’t resist a smile of his own and shook his head in dismay. “You are unbelievable.”
