Snowbird

Summary:

After defeating Reign, Alex discovers an anomaly and sends Supergirl to check it out.
Finding the spitting image of herself sitting among Kaznian soldiers, Kara decides to bring her clone into the DEO.

This is a what if Lex never got his hands on Red Daughter and she instead learned about the world by spending time with the superfriends, more importantly Lena Luthor. Can Kara keep her jealousy in check as she feels she has to share parts of her life with the puppy-eyed, innocent version of herself who seems to be unbound by all the weight and restraints Kara has imposed on herself throughout her life.

Notes:

Hey, it's me again. This is my first multi-chapter work. I do have an outline that I have strayed from already within the first two chapters. I'm going to explore this story as I go, so feel free to tag along if you want :)

That being said, I do have a plan, it might just take me longer to get to where I want this to go since some of the characters simply have a life of their own and distract me from staying on track. Don't blame me, please, I'm just gardening here.

Again, sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes, English is not my first language ;)

Hope you enjoy this fic. Cheers.

PS.: One thing you have to know about me is that I'm a sucker for happy endings. So to ease any anxiety I will fully disclose that Supercorp is endgame, I will die on this hill, please send flowers.

Chapter 1: The aftermath

Chapter Text

Intro:

“Shock us again in five minutes!” Kara screams at Mon-El. “Sam, now!”

Sam grabs the Harun-El in Supergirl’s hand as she forces Reign to touch it as well. They are transported to Juru, all of them falling to the mist covered floor.
Sam gets up, her eyes glare at Reign.

“Welcome home, this is for Ruby!”

She punches Reign, hard, and sends her flying over backwards.

“This is for Patricia.” Sam knocks Reign over once more. Kara just stands there, letting Sam get her well-deserved payback.

“This one – this one’s for me.” For the first time, Reign has fear in her eyes, as Sam pulls back her fist to send it flying into Reigns face.

Reign lands next to the well a hand immediately pinning her down by her chest. Sam hovers over her as she picks up a cuplike structure with water from the well.
Reign gasps and struggles. “Nooo!” She rasps as Sam pours the water into her mouth.

Red sparks ascend from Reigns body as she gets up again. “What have you done to me?” Sam steps back and watches on with Supergirl as dark shadows start circling the Worldkiller and then drag a screaming Reign into the well.
Sam is panting as Kara walks over to put a comforting hand on her back.

It’s over.

Chapter 1

Alex is analysing the data from the fight against Reign from yesterday. People jumping between worlds leaves a unique radiation signature and she just wanted to be thorough. Now she ponders over the results.
Kara comes flying into the DEO, proudly striding over to her sister.

“What’s up?”

Alex doesn’t look at her, she types away at her tablet.

“Alex?”

“Huh?”

“Is everything alright?”

“Erm, I’ve been checking the radiation spikes from yesterday.”

“When we went to Juru?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Is there anything I should know?”

“Well, there was another spike.”

“What? Where?”

“In Kaznia.”

Kara looks at her with a crinkle between her brows. “Do you think she came back?”

-

Kara flies over snow covered trees as she moves closer to the source of the spike.

“Almost there, a hundred metres straight ahead.” Alex says over the coms.

Kara squints her eyes, even with her x-ray vision, she can’t see anything out of the ordinary. Then she hears a man crying out. “Alex, did you hear that? I’m going to check it out.”
She changes course and discovers a small hut. As she bursts through the doors she sees a bunch of soldiers taking cover. One is cowering in the corner, holding his hand to his chest. He curses in a language Kara doesn’t understand, but that is not the most confusing part.

It’s like she’s looking into a mirror: There is a woman in the middle of the hut, wearing similar clothes as the men, but she is the spitting image of Supergirl.

“What the - ?” Kara says as the woman stands to face her. She looks confused, but not scared.

“Alex.” She says.

“Alex?” Kara asks. The woman nods.

“What’s going on Kara?” Alex answers on her coms.

“You’re not going to believe this.”

-

Getting the mystery woman back to the DEO proved to be a difficult task. For one, Kara wasn’t sure if she even understood English. She tried to ask her a bunch of questions, but apart from her sister’s name, there was no new information to be gained. Secondly, the woman seemed to share Kara’s powers. So, when Kara decided that talking was getting her nowhere, she wanted to hoist the woman up and simply fly her back.

That was a bad idea.

The woman surprised Kara and twisted her arm to her back. After some wild gesticulation on Kara’s part, she could finally convince her doubleganger to follow her. She showed her how to fly and even though at the beginning she chopped off the top of some of the trees, she seemed to quickly get the hang of it. With a big smile on her face, the doubleganger followed Kara halfway around the world, back to the DEO.

The torturous endeavour continued after they finally made it back. Kara was exhausted and asked Alex to take over. After all, the woman seemed to know her name.
They sat in the med bay, Alex had insisted that they need to run tests on her anyway so it might be best to guide her there. They put her on one of the beds and Alex sat down in a chair next to it.

“Hi, I’m Alex.” Alex sported her most reassuring smile. The blonde woman looked at her closely.

“Alex.”

“Yes. I’m Alex. And you are?” Alex gestured from her chest to the mysterious woman. But all that she got was a set of blue eyes looking at the floor. “Hey, it’s OK.” Alex put her hand on the woman’s knee.

Alex calmly hooks her up to some of her machines. It felt weird having someone that looked exactly like her sister in front of her, yet she looked back at Alex with those big puppy eyes. So lost, a stranger in her sister’s body. She exchanges a concerned look with Kara who stood by the door, arms crossed.

-

“So, she remembers nothing?” Kara asks under the light of the sun lamps.

“Kara, she couldn’t even tell us if she did.”

Kara sighs. She was frustrated. Usually, it never took her as long to recover from an exhausting mission, but this time she has spent twice the amount of time under the sun lamps and still felt tired. Additionally, having someone around that looked like her, sharing her superpowers, but not being able to communicate worried her.

“We should consider locking her up.” Kara finally says, earning her a confused hum from Alex.

“She has superpowers, but we don’t know what she’ll do if she just decides she doesn’t want to stay here any longer.”

“It would be a disaster to have your doubleganger fly around National City, causing chaos.” Alex agreed. “But we can’t just lock her up. She won’t understand.”

Kara sighs. She doesn’t want Supergirl 2.0 to turn into a villain just because she was afraid of what she might possibly do.

“You’re right. Maybe we should ask Lena for help.” She finally conceded. “I have a feeling that this all has something to do with the Harun-El that she made to help Sam. If there is a way to find out who or what she is, I’m sure we’ll get there a lot faster with Lena’s help.”

Alex smirks at her and nods. Of course Kara would jump at the opportunity to include Lena again. “I was thinking the same thing actually. It split Sam and Reign apart, what if it did the same to you? If there’s a chance to undo it, we should definitely look into it. I love you Kara, but I don’t think I can handle two of you.”

“Hey, I’m a delight!” Kara feigns hurt, but smiles as her sister rolls her eyes back at her.

-

Lena is sitting at her desk in her office at L-Corp thumbing through some documents. She hears the quiet sounds of boots on her balcony and already knows who they belong to without turning around. After all, there is only one person that uses her balcony as a personal entrance. Supergirl walks into her office hands on her hips.

“What can I do for you, Supergirl?” Lena asks without looking up.

Kara is slightly annoyed by the cool welcome, but is quickly distracted by the contrast of those bright teeth nibbling at a dark, red lip. She shakes herself out of it.

“I’m sorry for interrupting your work. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t important.”

Lena finally looks up at Supergirl. Her cocky stance with her broad shoulders has always driven Lena mad. She flexes her muscular arms, but at the same time she can’t help but feel that it’s a all just an act. Whether Supergirl wants to intimidate her or impress her, she doesn’t know. Either way, it vexes her.

The CEO places the papers on her desk and leans back in her chair, one eyebrow raised in question. Kara clears her throat.

“After you used the Harun-El on Sam, she was separated from Reign, correct?”

“Correct. And the two of you have destroyed her, as far as I know. I have handed over all of the Harun-El I sinthesized. So what seems to be the problem?”

Supergirl nods as she starts pacing back and forth. “Yes, Reign is gone.” She stops for a second. “How is Sam doing?”

Lena furrows her brows. Is Supergirl really concerned or is there another angle at this? “She is fine, considering. A bit tired, but that was to be expected.” Supergirl nods again and continues to pace.

“So, we found another person. Someone who might have been split apart by the Harun-El as well. Accidentally.”

Lena sits up, her interest peaked. “Who? The only people who had access to the Harun-El were...” Her eyes grow wide in realization.

Supergirl faces her, takes a breath to steady herself and confirms Lena's suspicion. “Me.”
