Chapter Text
Silent. It was too silent. Especially for what had happened just moments ago. Lifting himself from off the ground outside the underground cathedral, N used his sword to support his weight seeing as his leg was still regenerating. N looked to where Uzi had just been… but she was gone. His eyes hollowed out in concern and dread, and he could begin to feel the panic rise in his chest. Using his right-hand sword as a crutch, N hobbled over to the flesh pit as fast he could, calling out Uzi’s name, hoping for a response, but deep down he knew there would be none.
“Uzi!” N picked up his injured pace as his leg continued to regenerate, limping past old lab equipment and broken wooden pews.
“UZI!” His leg had fully regenerated now and he was immediately sprinting over to the pit as fast as he could. N sprinted past Doll’s badly mutilated corpse, not paying any mind to it. He only cared about one thing right now.
“Uzi…” N’s voice trailed off as he reached the edge of the hole and looked in, hoping to see Uzi clinging to the wall or using her wings to fly her way back up. But he saw nothing, just darkness. N stared down the pit for a few seconds before he fell to his knees as a sudden realization hit him: he was alone. He had failed everyone whom he had ever cared about. He had nothing left. He expected himself to start crying, but nothing came, he just sat there, staring into the pit that had claimed the last person he truly cared about. Why was he not crying? He had just lost everything and everyone.
How could he have failed her so miserably? He promised they were going to figure this thing out together. But now she’s gone and he’s no closer to figuring anything out… not that it matters anymore. Maybe J was right after all. Maybe he was useless. Maybe he was a liability.
The memory of Uzi jumping over the pit with her visor displaying “Die Mad” as she dislodged him from Cyn’s grasp by cutting his leg off while giving him the key to the landing pod replayed in his mind. N removed the key that was lodged in his shoulder and stared at it for a moment. She wanted him to leave this planet. She sacrificed herself so that he could live on. But he couldn’t live on… not without her.
Rising from his kneeling position, N’s head was a mess of emotions, but one emotion rang true, more than all the others. Rage. N wasn’t sure if he had ever felt this way before, but he knew what this feeling was and he was ready to let it take control. N clenched his fists, the key to the ship still in one of his hands, and deployed his wings. N didn’t know if what he was about to do was the right decision, but he didn’t really care. N realized that he no longer had any fears, not even the fear of death. With that realization in mind, he launched himself into the air before plummeting straight down into the pit.
N had no doubts in his mind as he continued his rapid descent. He had no regrets over his decision. He knew the likely outcome of this decision was death, but he didn’t care. So long as there was a sliver of a chance for him to be able to bring Uzi back, this was the only right choice. N had always wondered if there was life after death, if there was a heaven and a hell, if those even existed for robots at all. But for some reason, he was sure it existed now, and he knew where Uzi would end up, and he knew that one day he would see her again.
Yellow lightning seemed to spontaneously flash more and more the further down he went. N’s facial expression was that of unwavering determination. Even as the yellow lightning began to increase in frequency and intensity he didn’t let up. Eventually, the yellow light became blinding and N closed his eyes, ready to see Uzi once more, whether that be at the bottom of this pit or in the afterlife.
I’m coming, Uzi.
