Until the darkness finally wins.

Summary:

Struggling with everything.

Work Text:

Until the darkness finally wins

By Henry Steen

(Verse 1) I have to admit, I have grown used to the nightmares, And I am accustomed to the pain. But I can never accept the anger, nor forget the shame.

I did my duty, I did my time, I followed orders, but lost my mind. Hyper-vigilance  they call it, PTSD they say.

(Chorus) In spite of all my worry, pain and sweat, somehow or other I have pushed  through each and every day. Living behind the physical and mental walls I've built, both Prisoner and Warden in a way.

(Verse 2) In point of fact I am content most times, in my own way.  Surprisingly even happy now and then, but unsure if I'll make it through, each and every day.

(Bridge) But always in the quiet moments, when the shadows creep and sway, I feel the weight of memories, dragging me down deep and far away.

I gain and lose ground (as many people do) but overall I move forward, finding strength for every breath, knowing that I am surviving, even in the face of death.

(Chorus) In spite of all my worry, pain and sweat, somehow or other I have pushed  through each and every day. Living behind the physical and mental walls I've built, both Prisoner and Warden in a way.

(Outro) Though the scars grow thicker, and the battles never end, I will keep fighting, keep surviving, until the darkness finally wins.

Until the darkness finally wins.
