Work Header

April 24th

Summary:

Renfield is running late for work when a mysterious package arrives at the office.

Dracula helps teach Renfield the importance of reading cards, checking the calendar and arriving to work on time.

Happy Administrative Assistant Day!

Notes:

When I first read Soft_Yawn’s story Assistant a year ago I knew I wanted to write a short story that in their universe to celebrate Administrative Assistant Day.

If you haven’t read Assistant you should because it’s brilliant!

Only thing you need for my fanfic of their fanfic is this is an AU where Dracula is a Lawyer (still a vampire) and Renfield is his administrative assistant (still a familiar) and the two of them are in a consensual BDSM relationship.

Thank you Softie for letting me play in your sandbox!!

Work Text:

Orlando, Fl - The Office
April 24, 2002 Wednesday -12:30pm

Renfield rushed from his car, that he had hastily parked down the road, and ran up the street. It was so late, but the car dealership was running behind when he went to pick the vehicle up after having a preventative rust undercoat applied. Fumbling with his keys, he was startled by a hand reaching out and touching his shoulder.

Spinning around he came face to face with the soft brown eyes of a delivery girl, her long braided hair shone in the sunlight.

“I’m so sorry,” she laughed while smiling, showing off her beautiful straight white teeth. “I didn’t mean to startle you. I’ve been waiting for someone to come to the door. The sign said this office opens at 6pm, but the instructions on my delivery said someone would be here to receive the package at noon.”

He cursed under his breath, his Master expected him to be here to intercept this delivery. He hoped he wouldn’t be too disappointed in his secretary. When Renfield thought of how Dracula might punish him, the tips of his ears went pink. Their relationship had only just changed from secretary to familiar and from boss to Master.

The delivery woman held out a box wrapped in iridescent clear wrapping and held together with blue and purple ribbons.

“Sign here.”

He took the pen and jotted down his signature while taking the package. Inside the office Renfield placed the box on Dracula's desk, and wondered what might be inside, before starting his day.

The office needed tidying, the grass cut, and files and documents prepared for tonight’s clients. There was so much to do and he was already late, so he put the box out of his mind and got to work.

At 5:15pm Dracula finally came down from his room in the attic, or the Done room as Renfield secretly called it, where his coffin lay hidden. Renfield quickly checked over the files he had prepared for their 6pm appointment making sure all the necessary information for Mr. Alucard … um he meant his Master, were in order.

“You didn’t like them then?” Dracula said casually but there was a slight tightness to his voice that made Renfield stand up a little bit straighter.

“Pardon, sir?”

His Master gestured at the mysterious package.

Renfield furrowed his brow in confusion, not understanding the issue. “Didn’t you want your package on your desk?”

Dracula just took a long exaggerated sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose, in a very similar manner to Renfield’s late wife when she was especially frustrated with how thick she thought he was being.

“Did you even look at the card?”

“What card?”

“The one on the package.”

Damn, his Master was beginning to lose patience, Renfield could hear the displeasure in Dracula’s voice. He hurried over and found the small card taped to the box, it said;

To: Renfield, you have made a very good assistant, I chose well.

From: D

His face flushed with pleasure and a little embarrassment for having not read the obvious note.

Picking up Dracula’s letter opener, he swiftly cut the ribbons holding the shimmery wrap, and then lifted up the box to reveal a lovely dark red vase holding a dozen red roses with white carnations and baby's breath interspersed.

“Oh, they’re lovely. Thank you.” He gently touched the soft petals then turned to his employer. “What’s the occasion?”

“Haven’t you looked in your planner today?” Dracula gestures to the book with all of the important clients and appointments.

Renfield shook his head, before going over his desk to flip it open to the correct date. He saw that Brice from the Lobo organization was due to arrive at 6pm, he looked at the clock it was about 20 minutes away. However, he didn’t see anything else that he had missed.

“Look closer.” Dracula said suddenly.

Renfield picked up the book, but his Master sharply told him to put the book on the desk and bend over instead. He bent over the desk and tried to follow his Master’s instructions but just didn’t see it.

“I’m sorry Master, I don’t know what I’m looking for.” Before he could get up and turn around, Dracula slapped him sharply across the seat of his pants. He gasped in shock, but the pain quickly turned to a pleasant tingle.

“Look closer.”

He bit his lip to stop his Master from seeing his grin, then followed instructions once more. He scanned the page looking for anything he might have missed. His search was interrupted by another sharp slap, this time to the other cheek. He started to look back, only to get five more slaps in quick succession to punctuate each word.

“I told you to look.”

The sting brought tears to his eyes which made it hard to see but eventually he saw it. Written so tiny he had to squint to read it.

“Happy Administrative Assistant Day.” A goofy smile broke out on his face, despite the growing pain on his ass or maybe because of it. “Why thank you Master! That was incredibly thoughtful. The flowers are beautiful.”

Dracula hummed in satisfaction as he began to stroke Renfield’s back as if stroking a cat.

“And yet … you arrived late to work today didn’t you. That kind of disrespect needs to be reprimanded, wouldn’t you agree?”

Of course Renfield nodded.

“Then I suggest you drop your trousers and everything else, and hold onto the desk.”

His eyes flicked to the clock, 10 minutes to 6pm and their first appointment.

“But .. but … you have an appointment, Master!”

“Well then, I guess you better do as I ask quickly.”

They both grinned, and Renfield unbuckled his belt and slid it from the belt loops and handed it to Dracula before complying with the order.

Dracula was able to make his point regarding tardiness before Brice walked in the door, and Brice was too polite to comment on why Renfield appeared to be avoiding sitting down at his desk.

As far as administrative assistant days went, Renfield suspected that his was the very best.
