This fic was inspired by this comment on Reddit (like, its text is basically the summary, so there's that)

Chapter 1: A Helping hand

Chapter Text

They were alone. Tomori’s face was so close, mere centimeters away from Taki’s. Taki felt like some force was pushing on the back of her head, urging her to shorten this distance, until it would be no more, and their lips would finally connect in a kiss. “What is the name of this force that pushes me like this?” Taki wondered. Right, it was…

A juice box?!

Taki raised her head. The box started falling, only to be caught by a girl who actually put it on Taki’s head in the first place. The drummer looked at her with confusion, still not fully distinguishing the dream and reality.

“Sleeping again? The classes have already ended.” Umiri put the juice box on Taki’s desk. “So busy with your band that you don’t even have time to sleep at night?”

“Well, I was just about to kiss Tomori, but…” Taki said, rubbing her eyes. A split second later she realized what she just said, but it was too late.

“So you’re in THAT kinda band, huh?” Umiri said, looking very surprised.

“No-no-no, you got it all wrong!” Taki shook her head. All the remained of her sleepiness vanished in an instant. She didn’t really understand WHAT kind of a band Umiri was talking about, but she didn’t even want to know that. “I was just having a weird dream just now. It’s not like I’m ever gonna do that kinda stuff in reality.”

‘Unfortunately.’ Taki added in her head.

“OK, I get it. A dream. All right.” Umiri said in such a tone that Taki couldn't understand if she believed her or was just being sarcastic.

“But you see, one doesn’t see these kinds of dreams for no reason.” Umiri suddenly added.

‘Damn, she caught on.’ Taki thought.

“Hey, don’t you need to go play with one of your thirty-something bands?”

“Well, I have a bit of time.” Umiri took a chair, put it next to Taki’s desk, and sat face-to-face with her. “Well, at least now I understand why you’re always talking about Tomori when I ask you about the band. You barely ever mention your other bandmates.”

“What should I tell you about them? Anon was not really good at first, but her guitar skills are steadily improving. Her naming sense though… Not so much. Raana is a stray cat, like always, and Soyo…”

“Alright, I got this. Tell me more about Tomori. Is she your first love?”

“Is this really any of your business?” Taki said with a notable irritation in her voice.

“Well, I figured.” The bassist ignored that and took the answer as a ‘yes’. “Well, if you need some advice, I’m always here to help…”

“Like hell I will!” Taki protested. “Besides, I don’t think you’re much of a player yourself. Unless there’s something about you that I don’t know.”

“There is something about me that you don’t know, but that’s not the point.” Umiri suddenly threw in. “The point is, I know a lot of people from different bands, and some of them had similar struggles. And I can tell you one thing, most of the time, this kind of stuff within a band is a recipe for disaster.”

Taki could not bring herself to stop her. MyGO!!!!! already had one disaster in its history, and another one was clearly too many.

“So, if you wanna make things right, I can lend you a hand. No guarantees, though.”

Taki contemplated the offer for a second. This could actually be helpful. Taki’s feelings for Tomori were like a storm in her head - something that she couldn’t really control or predict. The only thing that she could do is to contain them for the time being. Taki was happy with just being in the band with Tomori.

Or at least that’s what she told herself.

‘Anyway, maybe a look from the side would help her approach this… Then again, what did Umiri know about this kind of stuff? Can one really give any love advice if they haven’t experienced it themselves? Or is this the other way around? Ugh, it’s too complicated!’

“Alright, I’ll think about that.” Taki finally answered.
