Work Text:
Flinging her backpack aimlessly to a corner of the dimly lit room with pure recklessness, a certain purple-haired, gothic drone climbs up the ladder of her loft bed and flops onto it the moment she is given the chance to. Uzi basked in the silence, the cooling fans she had for ‘lungs’ whirred softly as she inhaled the familiar scent of her bed. She was tired. Oh–so very, very tired. When she came back to live in the colony again after those traumatic events of when that holo-spooky snake crab J suddenly appeared to torment her memory files, she didn’t expect a shit-ton of homework being piled onto her. Today was one hell of a long day in high school, but when wasn't it?
All Uzi wants now is to rest and sleep until she wakes up to her annoying alarm. She doesn’t give a flying fuck about homework anymore. Hell, she’d care less about school! Why was it so necessary anyway? She was smart enough already; school is just some dumb excuse for kids to be able to bully or harass other drones. School is a stupid concept overall, you’re just learning the same things over and over again — but with a slow, gradual upgrade, along with some random shit just thrown into the lecture. Besides, they're machines! They have every information they could ever need programmed into their CPU already, why is there a need to teach them about more?
Letting out a heavy sigh, Uzi buried her face into her pillow, hoping to catch a few Z’s, or to count some sheep. But right when she was just about to drift off into unconsciousness, she heard a–
*rattle, rattle.*
Who in the absolute fuck was-
A loud clang, and the cover of the vent on one of the walls of Uzi’s room fell to the floor, resulting in Uzi sitting up on her bed in surprise. Staring at the vent cover on the floor, she looked at the darkened shadows of the interior of the vent. She squinted and then saw two yellow eyes come out of nowhere and blink. After that, five familiar yellow bulbs lit up just above the glowing oval orbs.
“N?” The purple-haired worker muttered out, confusion laced in her voice.
“No, idiot. It’s me.”
A disappointed sigh escaped Uzi’s lips, as her brows furrowed and her lips curved into a barely concealed frown. V crawled out of the vent, jumping down and landing with a thud.
“That’s a shame.” She replied sarcastically, before flopping back onto her bed.
“ Wow , and here I thought you’d be happy to see me.” V rolled her eyes, placing her hands on her bare hips.
“When am I ever happy to see your face of all things?”
“A 'hello' would’ve been nice.”
“Respecting your existence is something above me, and you and I both know very well you don't have the greatest height genes .”
“… Well. I do admit you are quite short, compared to an average human; you’re basically a toddler.”
“Bite me!” Uzi shot V a glare.
“Careful what you wish for, I might actually do that one day.” A toothy smirk crawled onto V’s face, showcasing her rather sharp fangs.
“Ew- what the hell?? That’s freaking kinky.”
“Well, that’s why you should start being wise with your choice of words.”
Silence filled the atmosphere for a moment as Uzi just stared at V with a look on her face that practically said: “wtf is wrong with u???”. She just shook her head lightly and brushed it off, rolling her eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. I’m going back to trying to shut down.”
V raised a brow, staring at Uzi with a confused expression.
“Weird. Normally, you’re all in for a little bickering, but now it feels like you’re not even putting in an effort in talking to me.”
“Because that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
This made V go quiet. When it comes to pestering Uzi, she gets to have a little fun just because of all the entertaining reactions the latter has. But today must’ve been pretty bad if the worker doesn’t actually want to be pestered, as if she’s genuinely in a damned mood.
“You ‘kay?” Questioned the disassembler, usually, V doesn’t care much about a lot of things. Though one thing was for sure, Uzi is an exception.
In response, V just heard an incoherent mumble from Uzi — whose face was buried in her pillow. The silver-haired drone just sighed, crossing her arms.
“Speak up, ‘zi.” She responded, making use of Uzi’s nickname. With a low grumble, the purple-haired goth lifted her head to look at V.
“I just had a bad day in school, that’s all.” The way she said it clearly didn’t convince V. There was definitely more to it than just that.
“Y’sure ‘bout that?” Asked V as she tilted her head to the left.
“Yes, I’m very fucking sure.” Uzi snapped, shooting a glare at V.
In return, the disassembly drone simply raised her hands defensively and just shrugged.
“Alright, alright. Whatever you say, grumpy pants.”
With a few steps, V reached out to the rails and lifted herself to sit on the edge of the bed, as Uzi buried her face back in her cotton-soft pillow.
“Shitty day?” V extended her hand to remove Uzi’s beanie and began to run her fingers through the latter’s short purple locks.
The disassembly drone was met with a muffled heavy sigh, along with a short nod.
“I figured.” She paused for a few seconds, playing with Uzi’s hair as she pondered for a while.
“… Want a hug?” She eventually asked, tilting her head to the side.
With a long, accidentally prolonged silence, Uzi simply nodded again — though it was rather subtle this time. She got up from her bed and leaned against V leisurely. The taller drone simply wrapped her arms around Uzi’s torso, leaning her head against Uzi’s own. They basked in the comfortable silence within the room, their warmth radiating off of each other in the cold, still silence of the night. Uzi wished that this moment would last forever until the end of the universe — but she’d never admit that out loud, of course. And after a while, Uzi spoke up, moving her head slightly to look up at V with her purple optics.
“Hey.. V?”
“Hmm?”
“… Thanks. For– y’know.. being here, and not prying into shit. I-... uhh.. I appreciate it…”
“Mm, you’re welcome,” V replied with a small, yet warm smile.
Uzi blushed and smiled back, slowly and reluctantly embracing V back as well.
‘Maybe being alive isn’t so bad after all.’ Uzi would think.
School definitely still sucked for her, but at least V made it all bearable. V was her reason for anything at this point, her will to live, her world, her universe, just everything. Of course, Uzi would never risk saying that. She didn’t want to feed V’s ego; besides, V has enough cockiness for Uzi to deal with at the moment. But V would find out about that at some point, although the thought didn’t bother Uzi that much as it used to. Maybe because Uzi was learning, learning that feelings aren’t always a bad thing.
And perhaps V is learning too, learning to warm up to someone. Even though V seemed perfect in Uzi’s eyes, she has some flaws too. She wouldn’t want to show any vulnerability to anyone for the life of her. V was scared of feelings, and Uzi thought they were cringe. So obviously, it’s going to lead V into a spiral of bottling her feelings up.
Either way, both girls seem to be beginning to enjoy the relationship between each other. Even though they’d still argue and bicker occasionally, it never really got so serious to the point where it could genuinely hurt one of them. They were changing. Changing for the better. And it’s all because they had each other.
“Oh, and V?..”
“Yeah? What’s up?”
“Nothing. I just wanted to say that–.. Um...” The worker drone paused for a few seconds, hesitating. But no moment could ever be as perfect as this; Uzi just couldn’t lose this opportunity.
“I uh- I love you.”
V froze, her digital eyebrows rising to her forehead. She looked down at Uzi, clearly surprised and confused.
“You–.. you do?” She’d ask.
“Mmhm.” Uzi awkwardly replied with a singular nod.
“Oh.. Well then, I um–…” The silver-haired disassembler took a deep breath.
“I.. Kinda love you, too..”
Uzi hummed in response and smiled. They were quiet for a moment, the silence now being a rather more uncomfortable and awkward one.
“Hey- uuh… No gross stuff, alright?”
The taller drone couldn’t help but chuckle when she heard that.
“Got it, no gross stuff.” She simply replied, looking down at the latter with a small smile. The gothic drone couldn’t help but smile back and blush a bit.
A few seconds of silence were present again while they continued to continue having eye contact, nearly mesmerized by the lone sight of each other’s eyes. And slowly, but surely, V began to lean a little closer towards Uzi. Which confused the worker drone at first. But Uzi’s confusion was quickly wiped out of existence as she felt V’s lips make contact with her own. V had a faint taste of oil on her lips, Uzi did too, but not as strong as the taste on V’s. ‘ No gross stuff.’ They agreed, and then this proceeded to happen.
Uzi didn’t mind, neither did V. As a matter of fact, they both enjoyed this, and both wished it could last forever. But alas, they had to break the kiss eventually. The purple-haired drone let out an airy and awkward chuckle.
“What happened to ‘no gross stuff’ ??”
“I couldn’t resist.” The taller drone replied, giggling softly.
“That’s definitely going to be the first and last time we do tha–” V cut her off with a quick peck on the lips.
“Not exactly the last, I’ll say.”
Uzi’s visor began to glow a very vivid purple before turning away from V with a flustered expression and an overheating CPU.
“I hate you…” The worker drone muttered under her breath.
“I hate you too,” V replied with a smirk.
