A broken heart... beats?

Summary:

Where Todoroki doesn't know how to be normal.

Or just...

Shoto needs a hug.

This is a spin-off of my other story 'The Monster Created by You' that I will bring to English too

Notes:

In the story, Todoroki Shoto (and only him) is a girl. This one shot is basically her talking about her life in a hurried manner growing up.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

She was a normal child.

Or rather... As normal as someone who is the daughter of a hero can be.

But Dad was never 'any hero'. His name imposed fear on many and aversion on many others, Endeavor, people call him. Hero No. 2.

Despite everything, 3-year-old Shoto still had his bubble of happiness.

We were a big family... there were 3 older brothers. With Toya being Shoto's favorite. Not that the words were ever spoken, but it was too obvious to ignore.

At the age of 4, Shoto realized that his father wasn't as good as he tried to show...

Toya always appeared with increasingly larger and ugly bruises. Fuyumi said he got the doubles when training with his dad.

Shoto didn't want to train... She didn't want to feel pain.

At the age of 5, Toya disappeared... Nobody told her where the Nissan went. But she heard... the father shouted at the mother about 'Weak and defective children' and 'The useless one there burned alone'...

Shoto wanted to be strong. To find your Nissan soon...

At the age of 6, the dream turned into a nightmare.

Sua individualidade despertou. Algo tão forte que proporcionou inveja em vários heróis quando souberam.

Enji started to train her.

Ela passou a ter os mesmos dodóis que seu nissan tinha.

Dessa vez não tinha a nee-san nem o outro nissan para lhe abraçar e dizer que 'tudo ficaria bem'.

The monster came to wake him up every day.

Still at 6 years old, Shoto had another loss. His Okaasan, who still gave him goodnight kisses and looked for monsters under the bed, was put in an insane asylum...

A scar on her left side was all that was left of her.

And that day, Shoto broke down.

He cried for everything he had accumulated. For Nissan's, for Okaasan, for not being able to have friends, for having to train... for being forced to become a hero...

And she hated it. Hated Enji. The society. And its power.

His mourning lasted only a few hours. He was not allowed to suffer more than that.

Her little heart felt so cold that she took it in her hands to try to warm it.

Ice seemed to slowly cover its surface so she hugged it. As hard as I could, but...

He ended up cracking it.

The last tears entered the now cracked ice crystal and settled there.

Shoto grew up with a heart that no longer beat.

But it took a toll…year after year. Shoto was turning into a stone.

I didn't feel anything anymore.

Happiness? Anger? Dreams? Goals? Everything just passed before his eyes, fermenting its outer rocky layer.

Meanwhile, his heart swayed from side to side, filled with salty water at the edges, but without a single drop spilling...

And I became the best.

The prodigal student.

The best fighter.

The model daughter.

But the layers were already so thick around me that, for me, this was the same as nothing.

It wasn't worth anything.

I joined the hero course on a recommendation. Not because I wanted to, however... who cares, right?

I already expected everything to go on as usual, that frivolous monotony... and who knows, maybe I wouldn't have been a little more mistaken if I hadn't met you...

You came like a light. Almost like an angel.

You had an annoying habit of interfering where you weren't called...

You... caught my attention from the first time...

I, with my fragmented pieces and opaque gaze, somehow also caught your attention...

You always seemed to see everything that many pretended didn't exist.

You stood in front of me and, slowly, removed each layer that had buried me.

You saved me.

You were my hero.

You were my friend.

You took my small, fragile heart and threw out all the frozen water inside.

You have renovated it into a new one.

And now... my heart started beating again.

But... I think it's faulty again...

Because every time you get close to me.

Smiling small or just talking and gesturing.

I feel like my heart is going to stop again...

Izuku... can you help me understand this too?

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed it, if it piqued your interest, take a look at the main story, you haven't reached the part where she appears yet (and in fact there's still a lot left for her to appear), But it won't be a wait in vain! I swear with my finger 🤭
