Work Text:

“Quiet. We cannot let that… THING… know we are here.” Bive whispered, a determined look on her face.

“But… Why are we breaking into Red Ball’s in the first place? This is illegal! We’re going to get in trouble!” Split, unlike Bive, was full of panic and fear.

Earlier that day, Bive had insisted that Split come with her on one of her ‘routine investigations’. Split had assumed that it would be a harmless bonding activity, and that hopefully she could get more of an insight into the detective portion of Bive’s life, which was pretty much all of it. So when Bive led her to the near empty restaurant in the middle of the night, and had them both break into the building, she couldn’t help but be more than a little surprised.

“What are we even looking for? Let’s just find it and leave! Please? This place gives me the creeps…” Split pleaded for Bive to turn back.

“That’s exactly the point! Every time I come here, something feels off. There’s something going on here. This time I’m certain I’ll figure it out.” Bive reassured her.

“You’ve done this before?! Bive!” At least, she tried to reassure her.

“I- Uh-” Bive struggled to come up with something to calm Split’s rapidly increasing frustration.

“Bive, we’ve talked about this!” Her voice rose alongside her anger.

“Split, please, I know you’re upset but calm down, you’re being too loud-” Bive desperately tried to calm her, to no avail.

“No, I won’t calm down! You promised me you would stop breaking laws in your investigations, and not only do you go behind my back, now you try and get me in on it too? It is entirely reasonable for me to be upset right now! If anything, I should be outraged!” Split was practically yelling by this point, her balled fists shaking as she clenched them.

“Yes, yes you are, but listen to me, if you’re too loud-” Before she could finish explaining, she was interrupted by the quickly loudening sound of heavy, clanking metal footsteps approaching.

“WE NEED TO HIDE.” Her desperation reached its peak as she began frantically searching for somewhere to hide.

“Wha-” Split wasn’t allowed to finish, as Bive yanked her under a nearby table, crouching as low to the ground as possible in an attempt to evade being spotted.

At that moment, the source of the clanking appeared from around the corner: a tall mechanical creature, covered in scratched red paint, its two eyes a glaring unfamiliar crimson light.

It turned its head as it scanned across the room, searching for the intruders. Bive’s pitch black fur helped her to blend in with the darkness of the room, however Split was not as lucky, her bright yellow coat sticking out like a sore thumb.

“INTRUDER DETECTED.”

The beast began to beeline for the table under which the two hid under. It reached under the table, grabbing the soft paw in its cold, metallic hand. Split’s mind was clouded and filled with dread, as the arm retracted, dragging out… Bive.

Bive had saved Split.

“INTRUDER DETAINED. OFFENSIVE PROTOCOLS ENGAGING…” The robot began to drag Bive away, effortlessly resisting any attempts made by her to escape its grasp.

“Split! Split, please!” Bive screamed, begging for Split to save her.

But Split didn’t know what to do. Her mind was foggy, overflowing with fear, rushing with all the thoughts of what could happen. And, faced with no other option…

She ran.
