Chapter 1: A Very Normal Day

Chapter Text

I check my phone as I sit on a rooftop during my patrol around the east side, my wings giving a mechanical flutter at the cold breeze hitting them, and realize it's 4:00 am! I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING!!!! I run home and unlock the door to be met by my roommate, Tubbo. "Hey Tubster," I say nervously.

"You have work in the morning Tommy go to sleep," He said. I walked to our shared bedroom and I lay down under the thin blanket. Tubbo joins a bit later and we cling onto one other (it's how we keep warm under the thinness of the blanket.) Soon after clinging to Tubbo, I fall asleep only to be awakened by my alarm at 7:30 for work. I quickly uncurled from my friend and got dressed for work. I work at this little coffee shop called Nuffin Muffin. Bad owns it with his "best friend" Skeppy. The cafe is a safe space for heroes and even vigilantes (like myself) go there. There are many of these around town like Niki's, but Bad's is the largest. Before I know it, I'm there.

"TOMMY! Welcome back!" Bad said excitedly.

"Bad, it's 8 am, I'm sure Tom is very tired," Skeppy said. I nodded silently.

"Oh, sorry muffin! Will you be ok being here by yourself? Skeppy and I need to do something." I nodded slowly and went to the back to clock in and put on my apron. The normal customers and new ones came in the normal steady stream. There was a knock on the backdoor during my break. I grumbled and put my phone on the table. Walking over to the back door, planning on opening it with a great one-liner, something like "Sorry, we don't take backdoor orders," but when I opened the door I was left shocked. The fucking syndicate...the most feared villains in all the city. Siren, Blade, and Nightmare. Holy shit...

"Where's Bad...?" My head whipped around to The Blade, holding the injured Siren. I didn't even realize what was happening when I was shoved aside landing on my back. A small crack was heard from my wings, and groaning I sat up. I watched as Nightmare walked to the wall phone. I pulled my phone off the break room table to text Tubbo, the man was a wiz with technology, when it was smacked out of my hand by Blade who put Siren on the couch. I watched it fall and crack from the impact. I wasn't thinking in the moments after that, just speaking.

"OI! Do you realize how long that took me to save up for?!" All three of them snapped their heads over to me, though I didn't care. "Not everyone can just steal a new phone fucker!" I yelped as I was picked up by the back of my shirt, like a kitten, and like the big man I am I didn't like this, kicking my feet around to try and get my attacker to let go of me.

"Do you know who we are?" I turned my head and got a glimpse of long pink hair.

"Of course, I fucking know who you are! What kind of stupid idiot doesn't know who you are?"

"Haha...I like him...you are a fucker...Blade...." All of us looked over to the loopy Siren

"Nightmare..?"

"I'm sorry, I can't do anything until Diamond arrives." I could hear the Blade sigh. The voice changers making their voices unrecognizable.

"What do we do about the kid?"

"I am not a kid!" I grumbled as my voice was unheard.

"We could kill him?" I whipped my head to the pink man.

"Blade!"

"We could keep him?" I whipped my head to the man on the couch.

"Siren!" Nightmare didn't sound too happy with his teammates suggestions.

"Don't I get a say in this!?" I huffed as I was ignored once again. The backdoor opened again, and in walked HellSpawn and Diamond. I was dropped and I landed on my arm with a small gasp. The black and red vigilante walking forward to the scene.

"What is happening...?"

"Siren got hurt while in a fight with Speedster."

"Man..he got fucked up didn't he?"

"Language!" A small sorry was heard from the blue man. I watched as he walked over to Siren and used his power to create different crystals with different abilities, this time clear quartz started to appear in Siren's wound, helping it close and heal.

"Thank you, Diamond...you're a lifesaver," He said breathlessly.

"I know." A beat of silence before he turned to me. "You're not bleeding right?" I shook my head wordlessly.

"I heard his back crack earlier." I looked over with a look of betrayal to Nightmare, who just stared with an unreadable expression. The black veil attached to his hat covering everything on his face.

"Well? Let's see it?" I shook my head, Hellspawn walked over and placed a hand on my back, I jumped slightly in a slight panic.

"Sorry muffin...." I immediately looked over to the vigilante.

"W-what did you just call me?" I hated how shaky my voice sounded, but could you blame me? I was surrounded by villains and vigilantes. Once the shock wore off, my mind started to wander to the worst-case scenario. "Y-you know what? I-I should be going home now...." I smiled nervously and before anyone could answer I ran. Bolted out of the cafe. Running home. Forgetting my things in my locker.
