Work Text:
“Hey, are you alright?”
“…”
“Are you getting dizzy again? I thought the medication was working nicely, but whenever we get this deep in your memories, you start to develop symptoms of ■■■■■■■■…”
“…”
“You should try talking more. As your therapist, I only want to help you, ■■■■■■■■.”
“… Okay”
“Good, now we’re diving again into that place; be sure to focus and ask whatever we want to know this time,” the doctor said while administering another drug to his IV “Remember, there are certain things you have to ask and some things you shouldn’t. Those will make you unstable, and then we’ll have to stop the therapy, understand?”
“… Mnh”
As the drug was administered, he felt cold slowly embracing him, his eyes which remained awake for so long finally found peaceful and forced slumber in that medicine.
⁂
“Fuyu-nii, what’s going on? You were silent for a long time” Natsu nudged his arm.
“I’m sorry, I just got sleepy all of a sudden” he replied, rubbing his temples.
“That’s ‘cause he’s always workin’ late; he’s that much of a workaholic. ”
“I don’t want to hear your lip service, Maeno”
His friend childishly stuck out his tongue and then ignored him, but he didn’t give him the cold shoulder, but instead just supported his head on the table, filling the medical record of the four, keeping the talk about the anamnesis going on.
Fuyu already had the reply on his mind, yet he still kept going in circles, once and two times, until the replies would get mixed, turn out weird, or simply distorted.
“When’re you gonna stop this, Fuyu?”
“… What are you talking about?”
“This. I know you wanna stay here, but isn’t it a waste?”
Fuyu looked around, but only Aki and him remained in that enclosed space.
“Weren’t you the one more interested in curing ■■■■, so you could save her ?”
“I don’t know what are you talking about, stop it”
“You do know. ‘Cause, you would do the same thing for me. I know you, better than anyone else.”
Aki walked closer to him and pulled him by the shirt, their eyes meeting, even though the height was different.
“… Why’re you giving up? You were so close to developing a cure… now you’re still escaping. You’re running away from healing yourself, from forgetting us…”
“I…”
“You can heal, Fuyu. You can live a pretty decent life outside. Maybe you could even work in the laboratory again… So why do you deny yourself the right to be happy?”
Fuyu looked at him and finally slapped his arm, shoving him into the next chair while holding him by the neck.
“ To be happy? What’s supposed to be this happiness you talk about? That’s only bullshit!”
Aki fell from the chair into the floor, yet Fuyu still wasn’t satisfied, jumping on him while pinning him on the floor.
“That’s something someone so shitty, hypocritical… a martyr like you would say… but what about you? What would you do in my place?”
Aki slowly raised his hand and caressed Fuyu’s cheek, while some droplets fell onto his face. Fuyu’s entire frame shook in his touch, the once frowning expression misshapen into a pained demeanor.
“That’s right… you remember.”
“■■■■, ■■■■■■ ■■■ ■■ ■■”

⁂
“Hey, ■■■■■■■■… how is it going? I started to lose you for a second; the program somehow glitched and hurt my eyes and the siren started to sound, so I had to disconnect you…”
Several colors mixed in his eyes, the glow of the screen, the lights, and the silhouette of that person, everything turned red and white; he hated it, he felt nauseous, and the migraine was so bad that he felt a shot in the head would hurt less.
“…fine.”
“Do you have any issues with your sight?”
“No” (I can’t see shit)
“Do you have any discomfort, maybe pain or nausea?”
“No” (I’m always in pain, thanks to your shitty treatment and the needles stabbing me every few days so you can examine me)
“Do you remember who you are or why are you here?”
“No” (Give it back, give me back my sweet dreams)
“That’s good. With the proper guidance, you’ll finally become who you were in the past… those memories, we have to get rid of them to cure you of your ■■■■ onset”
“…”
“So let’s go back again, do you think you can withstand another session?”
He nodded as he took the further enhanced version of the memory erasure device he invented in his hands, and pretended to put it on his head while he looked to the doctor, who was distracted connecting the program to check that everything was working in perfect condition.
For him to keep working as a guinea pig on the military installations of his father wasn’t even an option, to help that fucker spending the wisp that remained of his life, he preferred to struggle, to fight and escape, or to die in the intent.
“■■■■■■■■, your IV is not-”
Of course, it wasn’t connected. After all, now it was stabbing the throat of that man, blood spurting from the wound on his neck like a fountain.
“My bad, I didn’t intend to break your neck,” Fuyu said while pulling the syringe out.
While recovering himself slowly, he regained his vision and typed some codes into the screen.
“I hate when people refer to me and relate me to that trash in the same sentence… no matter how much that man wants to hide it, I’ll expose him and kill him… even if that’s the last thing I can do in this life…” he muttered, letting out a sigh while pulling the identifications out of his body, those which made him think he was no different from cattle.
“Then, I’ll come back to you… Natsu, Aki…”
