Fireflies by the waterfall's end

Summary:

"Well I'd rather die than have to suffer my time near you again!" the last words Kaveh hurled at Alhaitham before leaving for his expedition to Temir.

"Don't come back then!" was the bitter answer Alhaitham shouted back. Words he would come to deeply deeply regret unforseenly soon after.

Chapter 1: Don't come back

Chapter Text

"I hate you!" - the rage is Kaveh's voice was palpable to Alhaitham standing at the opposite end of the living room. The blonde's hair was even rising above his head like a rpickly cat's maine, his eyes were red with fury, directed at the taller junior.

"You stubborn - hate at will! But it will not change how silly this entire operation is! Do you even hear yourself? Temir Mountains? To do what? Do you have ANY idea how perilous the track there is? And for what?"

"For what? For what? Considering all you do is read, you know damn well that those lands could hold immense amounts of Tah'ghar marble. Enough to build a second city."

"And who is going to build it?"

"I will!" Kaveh's tone was final, his voice reverberated, his rage spred to the veins down his neck, his voice was unforgiving and final. Alhaitham had finally struck the wrong cord, testing on treck too far. The yonger straigthened, letting his hands slack by his sides. Kaveh finally exhaled taking a breath, panting as if he finally emerged from under water. "Oh dear kusanali, I cannot, I cannot keep doing this Haitham." He ran his hands through his hair. He skin was rosy from the anger, his eyes glazing over as he closed them, the emotion finally showing its toll.

Alhaitham took a few steps forward, breathing carefully. Rarely did he feel the edge, the precipice where he knew well their relationship barely stood. Like a plank balancing shakily on the tip of a needle.

"Is anything of what I do ever, ever going to matter to you?" Kaveh's voice was tired, coarse, stopping Haitham in his track where his eyes met the red marbles that were glazed over.

"Nothing of what you do matters enough to risk loosing ... " Haitham could not finish.

"Nothing I do will EVER bring me back to this shit hole!" He screeched, shouting so loud the birds outside flew away.

"loosing your life you idiot!" - haitham raised his voice to match.

"Well I'd rather die than have to suffer my time near you again!" his eyes went so wide, Haitham could swear they could see all the way through to his bones. Kaveh slammed the door behind him so hard, the painting next to the door frame crached on the floor, the glass scaterring all around.

"Don't come back then!" Hatham shouted after the fading heavy steps outside.

And he never did.
