Chapter Text

Chapter 1: "Witching Hour in Zandvoort"

As the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix season approached its zenith, the coastal town of Zandvoort brimmed with otherworldly energy. The skies above shimmered with an ethereal glow as Max Verstappen, the three-time world champion, and Sergio Perez, the seasoned vice-champion, descended upon the Netherlands for the very first race of the season.

The timing of their arrival coincided with an annual celebration that veiled Zandvoort in an enchanting atmosphere. The locals spoke of a centuries-old tradition, a mystical festival of arcane energies. The air hummed with the resonance of spells and the scent of herbs used in ancient rituals in the woods nearby…  Max, and Sergio, found themselves immersed in the mystical tapestry that enveloped Zandvoort.

On the first night of their arrival with the team, the streets were adorned with flickering candles and garlands of herbs cast a warm glow, creating an ambiance that seemed to transcend the ordinary.

As they strolled through the town square, finding something to eat with other crew members the haunting melodies of masked musicians serenaded them, Max couldn't help but revel in the atmosphere. "Sergio, have you ever experienced anything like this, I grew up in this country and I’ve seen similar things before but what about you?"

Sergio, his eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight, grinned at Max's question. "Well, Max, Mexico has its mysticism, different but equally enchanting. Our celebrations span centuries. From Dia de los Muertos to ancient rituals honoring nature, there's a unique magic in the air there as well…"

Max nodded, absorbing Sergio's words. "Dia de los Muertos, I’ve heard of it because of that movie…”

Sergio's smile widened, proud to share a glimpse of his homeland's mystique. "Yes, it's a time when the boundary between the living and the dead is believed to blur. Families come together to honor their ancestors, creating altars adorned with marigolds, candles, and offerings. It's a celebration of life, death, and the enduring connection between the two."

Max, absorbing the magical ambiance, couldn't resist drawing parallels. "It's fascinating right? different cultures that express their connection to the mystical. Here in Zandvoort, the Witching Hour Festival is a big deal, as you can tell."

Sergio nodded thoughtfully as they continued their stroll, one of the crew people found the restaurant they wanted to dine in, and they headed inside still talking. "Every corner of the world holds its enchantment. Earth’s so old, so many secrets and things we don’t know…" checo paused as they all sat around the table, one of the crew members asked “But Max, what exactly is this Witching Hour Festival?”

Max, loving their co-worker's curiosity, smiled. "The Witching Hour is a magical time, deeply rooted in folklore and ancient beliefs. It's said to be the time when the veil between the material and spirit worlds is at its thinnest, it's celebrated during this festival as a way to honor the mystical forces that are believed to inhabit the surrounding woods."

“Ok guys, time to order some food” one of the other crew guys announced, Max and Checo were dedicated to sharing, so they ordered stuff the other would like so they could both maximize their food experience.

Max continued, "In these woods, people speak of warlocks and witches who emerge during the Witching Hour. Legends say that if they find you wandering around, they might turn you into a goat as a playful prank or, if they take a liking to you, they could grant you a wish."

“I wish I were rich!” one of the crew members said, they all laughed, but under his breath, Checo muttered to himself “Wish I was younger ” Max heard him murmuring and asked “What was that?” checo shook his head “Nothing, it’s pretty interesting, that’s all” but Sergio's curiosity got the better of him, and he turned to Max again with a thoughtful expression. "Max… When exactly does it happen, this witching hour? Is it like a specific time of the night?"

Max glanced at the moon hanging in the night sky, through the windows of the restaurant its soft glow filtering through the thick canopy of trees. "Yeah, Checo, it's usually around midnight, roughly between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM. That's when the tales say the veil between our world and the mystical realm is thinnest," he said trying to sound spooking and funnily moving his hands.

Sergio's eyes widened with intrigue. "Midnight, huh? And what happens during the Witching Hour?"

Max smiled, his gaze scanning the moonlit forest near them. "Well, that's when the stories come to life. Legends speak of warlocks and witches wandering these woods, and if you're lucky—or maybe unlucky, depending on your perspective—you might encounter them."

Sergio chuckled, a mix of amusement and skepticism in his tone. "Turn you into a goat? Grant wishes? Sounds like we're in a fairy tale."

One of the crew members, a mischievous glint in their eye, suggested, "Hey, why don't we try to find these warlocks and witches? Maybe they can grant me a wish or two." Laughter erupted from the group, the idea seeming like a lighthearted diversion.

Max joined in the laughter, but then he raised an eyebrow and said, "You know what? We actually can. Many locals believe in this magic and seek out the enchantment during the Witching Hour. Checo, would you be interested?"

Checo, shaking his head with a smirk, replied, "No thanks. I have enough problems as it is; I don't need to add magic to the mix." A chorus of playful boos and laughs followed.

"Come on, Checo!" another crew member chimed in, "We've got time; it's almost midnight. And we don't have to be super early for work tomorrow. It'll be fun!"

Checo rolled his eyes but finally conceded, "Fine, but if something happens, I'm blaming you, Max!"

After finishing a hearty dinner, the crew members, Max and Checo fueled by curiosity and a sense of adventure, decided to explore the mystique of the enchanted woods. They strolled through the town, engaging locals in animated conversations, seeking clues about how to encounter the rumored warlocks and witches.

Asking questions in hushed tones, they approached a woman who seemed to exude a knowing aura. She smiled mysteriously and, with a glint in her eyes, shared the supposed secret to finding the mystical beings in the woods.

"If you're daring enough," she whispered, "wait until the clock strikes midnight and then enter the woods. Walk towards any fae circle you can find, a fairy ring, and step into it. Once inside, simply wait."

Max, Checo, and the crew exchanged intrigued glances. The woman continued, "The fae circles are said to be portals between worlds. If you're lucky, you might encounter the warlocks and witches during the Witching Hour, and believe what you will, but many locals hold these traditions close to their hearts. The magic of Zandvoort runs deep in these woods, especially during these days…"

As the crew ventured further into the woods, guided by the moonlight filtering through the thick canopy, they scanned the surroundings in search of the elusive fairy circle. The atmosphere became increasingly mystical, with shadows dancing among the ancient trees.

Unbeknownst to them, a dark figure lurked in the shadows, fixating on Checo. The figure, hidden in the darkness, fixated his gaze on the older man, his senses honing in on the unsuspecting target, next to him was Max, the figure sensed that he was a local, and held no interest in him.

Max and Checo, engaged in a conversation about the unfolding adventure, walked side by side. Max couldn't resist teasing him, when he noticed how nervous he was "Come on, Checo, it's just a little supernatural exploration. Nothing will happen."

Checo, with a skeptical grin, replied, "Yeah, I'll decide that. No offense, Max, but I'm Mexican, and we believe in the supernatural. I won't take any chances so don’t leave me alone."

Unbeknownst to them, the lurking figure overheard their conversation. The air seemed to thicken with an eerie anticipation.

Suddenly, a disturbing sound pierced through the night air – the unmistakable cry of a baby. The crew members exchanged alarmed glances, and just as tension gripped the air, a deafening, otherworldly noise followed. In the chaos that ensued, a primal instinct kicked in, and they all began to run, the urgency fueled by a mix of fear and uncertainty.

The figure, seizing the opportunity amidst the confusion, moved swiftly and snatched Checo away from Max.

As the mysterious figure pulled Checo away, time seemed to slow for Max. Their eyes locked for a brief moment, a silent understanding passing between them. In that fleeting exchange, Max felt an unspoken connection, a determination not to let go.

Without a second thought, Max reached out, his hand closing around Checo's. "I'm not leaving you," he declared, the determination in his eyes matching the intensity of the supernatural events unfolding around them.

But before Max could pull Checo back, the figure's grip tightened, and in an instant, Checo was wrenched away, disappearing into the shadows of the mystical woods. Max's outstretched hand hung in the air, the weight of the unknown settling upon him.

The creature ran swiftly through the dense woods, the trees casting elongated shadows in the moonlight. Checo, carried in a bridal hold, felt the rush of the wind against his face, disoriented and bewildered by the sudden turn of events. The figure moved with an otherworldly grace, navigating the labyrinth of trees with preternatural ease.

Checo's mind raced. It all happened too fast. He had no time to react, no chance to resist. Amidst the confusion, many thoughts flooded his mind. What would happen to him? What would Max do now? The weight of responsibility bore down on Checo, overshadowing the surreal journey through the enchanted woods.

As the figure gracefully set Checo down in what appeared to be a clearing, Checo's eyes widened as he realized he was lying amid a fairy circle, as the lady had said. The moonlight bathed the area in an ethereal glow, and he could feel the ancient energy pulsating beneath his feet. Checo, now more intrigued than afraid, looked around. The figure, still cloaked in shadows, began to speak in a voice that seemed to echo from the depths of the forest.

"Fear not, stranger. You have entered the realm of the ancient, where the mystical forces of Zandvoort converge," the figure spoke, his voice a silky and gentle yet commanding presence.

Checo, still processing the surreal experience, managed to stammer, "Who are you? What is this place?"

The figure, revealing features that shimmered between the ethereal and the earthly, stood tall and commanding. His pale skin seemed to glow in the moonlight, accentuating the chiseled contours of his face. Long, flowing blonde hair cascaded down his shoulders, framing features that were nothing short of breathtaking. His eyes, an entrancing shade of otherworldly blue, held an ageless wisdom that transcended the mortal realm. "I am a guardian of this sacred space. You have been chosen to witness the magic that binds this land," he said as he sat in the circle in front of him.

Despite his extraordinary appearance, there was an undeniable earthly quality to him, as if he embodied the essence of the forest itself. His demeanor, though regal, bore no trace of menace; As the guardian spoke, his enchanting blue eyes seemed to linger on Checo's face, and his lips…

Checo caught between the bewitching allure of the guardian and the worry for his friends, couldn't help but sense the subtle undercurrent of the guardian's attention. Checo, his mind swirling with a mix of confusion and intrigue, finally gathered the courage to ask, "What do you want?" The ancient forest guardian, with a knowing smile, extended his hand towards Checo. With a moment of hesitation, Checo took it, and, to his surprise, he felt himself rising from the ground, lifted by an otherworldly power.

"A kiss," the guardian stated, his voice a seductive whisper that resonated in the enchanted air. "But not just any kiss. A real kiss. In exchange, I'll grant you one of your deepest wishes."

Checo, taken aback by the proposition, stammered, "I don't desire anything. I don't mess with magic." The creature laughed softly, a sound that sent shivers down Checo's spine.

"What a shame," the guardian remarked, lifting Checo's chin with his hand. "You're so handsome," he added, his voice carrying a mixture of admiration and genuine surprise. Checo felt a warmth spreading across his cheeks, a blush that took him by surprise.

The guardian's eyes, the color of an otherworldly sky, studied Checo with an intensity that seemed to pierce through the enchanted night. "You're different from those who normally find their way into these woods," he continued, his tone filled with a hint of fascination. "Your essence carries a uniqueness, a spark that draws me in."

Checo, still caught between the surreal nature of the encounter and the alluring presence of the guardian, couldn't help but feel a flutter of both confusion and flattery. “I- I’m not from here” he muttered.

The guardian, his gaze unwavering, seemed to peer into Checo's very soul. "I know you're from a land far away from these woods," he murmured, his words carrying an uncanny insight that added another layer of mystique to the encounter. “And there’s ancient magic there too, and you carry some of it with you…” his hand still holding his face, the guardian's touch held a comforting yet alluring quality. "I can see what you want," he spoke, his voice a velvety reassurance that stirred something within Checo. "Your desires and your insecurities, they are laid bare tonight, and I can help." The guardian's words held a promise, a whispered assurance that he could unravel the complexities within Checo's heart.

Caught between the allure of the guardian's offer and the vulnerability of his desires, Checo found himself at a crossroads within the ancient forest. The guardian, with a gaze that seemed to pierce through the veils of time, awaited Checo's response, ready to unveil the mysteries that lay hidden beneath the surface of the mortal's heart. “I don’t want help,” he said, he was lying and the Guardian knew “I just want to go back to my party, if that’s ok…”

The figure gave him a solemn nod, and once again, he posed the question, his voice a whisper in the enchanted air, "Would you kiss me, before you go?" Checo, caught in the ethereal charm of the moment, nodded almost instinctively. Of course, he thought, feeling a mixture of nerves and anticipation, why the hell not?

The kiss began soft and lingering. Checo, with only one other experience kissing a man before, found himself navigating the delicate dance of his sudden desire and uncertainty. The guardian, sensing Checo's hesitancy, approached the kiss with gentle patience, allowing the moment to unfold at its own pace. Gradually, the kiss deepened, becoming more intense as Sergio, guided by a growing curiosity and the enchantment of the woods, opened his mouth in response. The exchange between mortal and guardian became a blend of vulnerability and desire, a symphony of sensations that echoed through the moonlit clearing.

As they finally broke the lingering kiss, a whisper escaped the guardian's lips, "Good, Sergio." Checo's eyes snapped open in shock. How did the guardian know his name? "Wish granted," the guardian confirmed, his voice carrying a note of satisfaction. Checo felt a swirl of confusion as he stammered, "What? I didn't ask for anything."

The guardian chuckled softly, the sound echoing in the enchanted air. "Yes, you did. You've been carrying desires since the moment you entered these woods. Don't worry, Sergio. It has been granted. Everything will unfold as it should. Trust your instincts, do not hesitate, do not waver, and do not despair. You are a champion"

Checo, still caught in the mystique of the encounter, couldn't comprehend the magnitude of the guardian's words. "Just one last thing," the guardian added, his gaze unwavering. "Come back next year, same day, same hour. I would like to continue this interaction."

The request left Checo feeling both perplexed and intrigued. Before he could gather his thoughts, the guardian spoke again, "You are a handsome young man as well, these freckles..." he touched his nose with his moonlight-pale hand.

Checo didn't understand why the guardian would make such a comment, but as the mysterious figure walked away from the fairy circle, a familiar voice shattered the silence. Max's voice, filled with a mix of worry and disbelief, echoed through the woods. It seemed that Max had been there the whole time, watching everything unfold – the conversation, the kiss, and the cryptic exchange with the guardian.

Max's concern escalated into a surge of jealousy and fear when he saw Checo's passing out lying within the fairy circle. Shock and anger intertwined as Max's mind raced to make sense of the situation.

"Who the fuck are you?" Max yelled, his voice reverberating through the night as he rushed towards the guardian, who had momentarily lingered near the scene.

The guardian, calm and composed, turned to face Max. "Someone better than you," the guardian replied, his gaze fixing upon Checo's form inside the fairy circle. "More deserving of his kisses than you could ever be."

Max, taken aback and unable to respond, watched in shock as the figure disappeared into the shadows. With a sinking feeling, he ran to Checo's side, trying to wake him up. To his astonishment, Checo looked different—way younger than before. Max's confusion and worry reached a fever pitch as he struggled to comprehend the surreal turn of events.

"What the hell... What did he do to you?" Max muttered, his voice a mix of shock and disbelief. The enchantment of the woods had de-aged him, leaving Max to grapple with the consequences of the mystical encounter. As Max continued to stare at the transformed Checo, the moonlight accentuating the youthful features of his friend, the sight of him looking so different sparked a mix of emotions within Max. The enchantment had not only altered Checo's age but had also unveiled a side of him that Max had never seen before.

The moonlit clearing held the echoes of a night filled with magic, leaving Max to confront the unexpected consequences of a wish granted within the heart of the enchanted woods.

In this surreal moment, Max muttered to himself, "Oh man, Christian will kill me." The weight of the unexpected consequences settled in, and Max, still grappling with the surreal scene, couldn't shake the impending trouble that awaited him once Checo woke up and the reality of the night's events reached their team. “Oh, fuck!”
