One Year Later
“Wonwon!” Junhui’s excitement carries easily through the apartment, followed by his rapid footsteps as he locks the front door and runs inside.
“Hm?” Wonwoo pauses his game and slides his headphones off, setting them next to his computer. Shuffling out of the room, he finds Junhui standing by the dining table, wiggling back and forth.
“What’s up?”
He looks over his shoulder, smile as beautiful and radiant as the sunrise. “My candles are finally here!”
Wonwoo arches a dark brow as he glances at the large package on the table. “That entire box?”
“Yeah!” Too impatient to round the table, he dives over the back of the sofa. “Oof!”
“Junnie!” Wonwoo exclaims, already reaching toward him. “You’re going to crack your skull against the coffee table one of these days.”
Giggling, Junhui completely disregards his safety as he grabs the box cutter and bounces back triumphantly. “We can always just child-proof it with those foam thingies.”
“Right, child-proof,” Wonwoo mumbles, eyeing him, unimpressed.
With another peel of giggles, Junhui pecks his cheek. “We’ll have to do it sooner or later, right? What’s the difference between tomorrow or five years from now?”
Fondly exasperated, Wonwoo shakes his head and smiles.
Junhui considers it a victory as he returns to the box and slices off the tape. “I was so excited when they announced that they’ve restocked, that I might have gone a little overboard,” he chuckles sheepishly.
“Right,” Wonwoo snorts out a laugh. He rests his hands on his omega’s waist, chin set on his shoulder as he watches him pull out all the bubblewrap and stuffing papers in between the glass jars. “How many is that?” he asks absentmindedly, already counting the rows and columns under his breath—24.
“Waaaah! Look how pretty they look!” Smiling ear to ear, Junhui grabs one at random and pops open the thin metal lid. Rich cedar and crisp evergreens wafts around them. Junhui takes in a deep breath, eyes closed in bliss. “Ahhh…” he sighs wistfully. “I love it so much!”
A small frown tugs on the corners of Wonwoo’s mouth; his brows knit together in discontent.
Before his mate can take another whiff of the candle, Wonwoo reaches for it and promptly removes it from his grasp.
“Wha—” Startled, Junhui blinks his eyes open and turns to him. His head tilts in confusion, eyes round and big.
“You don’t need those candles anymore,” Wonwoo tells him. “You have the real thing right here.”
Understanding dawns, relaxing his features into delight and joy. Junhui laughs and wraps his arms around his alpha’s neck. “That’s true. Nothing can hold a candle to you, after all.”
Humming, Wonwoo smiles into his skin as he scents him thoroughly. Junhui sighs happily, baring his throat to give Wonwoo all the room he needs. Once satisfied, the alpha trails his lips up the smooth column, littering light kisses as he goes. He takes a second longer licking over the mating bite, chest puffing out in pride and gratification. Junhui melts in his arms, soft mewls tumbling from his mouth. His fingers curl into the fabric of Wonwoo’s shirt to steady his quivering legs. Finally, Wonwoo reaches the full and soft lips, where he deepens the kiss sweetly.
They don’t draw away until Junhui starts to feel lightheaded, swaying on his feet.
Wonwoo catches him easily, arm swung around his back, hand on his waist. He lets him lean his weight on him.
Cheeks flushed and lips swollen, Junhui grins up at him dazedly, nestled on the crook of his shoulder. His breath is ragged, but he looks so utterly happy.
Wonwoo can’t resist running the pad of his thumb over the pink blush, expression matching his mate’s.
“I know you’re better than all the candles in the world,” Junhui says with a laugh, poking the sour expression on Wonwoo’s face.
The latter rolls his eyes affectionately. “Gee, thanks, kitten.”
Laughing again, Junhui goes on, “It’s only for me to use when you’re away and I feel lonely. Next week, you have that 3-day conference and expo, remember?”
“Yeah,” Wonwoo admits with a sigh. It’s ridiculous to admit (and he’ll never let Kwon Soonyoung know), but he can’t deny the seed of truth: he’s jealous of the damn candles. The candles created from his own scent. Irrational irritation simmers under his skin.
“Wonwon?” Immediately sensing the slight change, Junhui lifts his head to look at him closely. “What’s wrong?”
To cause Junhui to worry over this is even more ridiculous.
Luckily, he has a solution that will take care of all the annoyances and pesky details.
“Nothing’s wrong, kitten,” he tells him honestly, cradling his face like a precious jewel.
Junhui nuzzles into his palm, eyes clear and adoring.
“I was just thinking of ways I could help you miss me a little less next week. Without the candle.”
Cracking up, Junhui hugs him tight around the middle. “You’re so funny, Wonwon. You know I love you~”
“Mm, and I love you.” He slides his hands down Junhui’s body, over his tiny waist and over the small of his back. They rest on the swell of his ass. He starts molding the supple flesh in his palms.
Junhui gasps, cheeks instantly coloring.
Wonwoo lowers his voice, deep timber eliciting a shiver to run through his mate’s body just as he expects. “Which is why I’ll take very good care of you, kitten,” he promises.
A soft whimper slips past red-bitten lips as Junhui nods, arms squeezing that tiny bit tighter around the alpha’s torso.
Smirking, he adds, “I’ll mark you from head to toe, fill you up with so much of me, you’ll be dripping for days.” He presses down over the seam of Junhui’s jeans, right over his opening. The fabric feels moist under his fingertips.
Junhui shudders. “A-Alpha,” he moans.
“And when I come home, I’ll do it all over again,” he says. His hands slide under the firm thighs. With a firm press, Junhui knows exactly what to do. He hops up, ankles locking behind Wonwoo’s back, burning face burrowing against his neck.
“Y-yes, Alpha. Pl-please…” he squirms, voice rising, turning cloyingly sweet.
Satisfied, Wonwoo smirks to himself as he presses a kiss to Junhui’s temple and hitches him higher. He walks them to their bedroom.
