Chapter Text
The smell of burning flesh made your stomach churn, your body threatening to collapse as you forced yourself to keep walking. Your chest burning in anguish as your sternum was being broken into like an egg. The alien cube continues to burrow its way deep within your flesh, Blood squirting out of the tight wound only to be sucked back in each time it tries to sink itself in further.
You let out a pained rasp, dropping to your hands and knees as your face scrunching up in agony. Your mouth unfurled to let out a scream, but nothing came out.
Black spots filled the corners of your vision as you stared at your bloodstained shirt with wide, teary eyes, a soft blue hue radiating from the cube beneath it.
You gripped the soil with another sharp wail as the cube dug its claws in deep. Fully submerging itself within your throbbing, aching skin. Forcing itself behind your melted sternum and snuggling itself behind your rib cage with a wet, sickening Plop.
You blacked out again.

The sound of rock smashing against metal ringed through the air.
It was one of those nights.
Nights where life would leave such a bitter taste in your mouth, such a rancid smell into your nostrils it's impossible to ignore. Teasing you, making your brain feel as if it was a waste of an organ, those nights. And one way you dealt with such nights was on the basketball field.
But it was locked.
And Rightfully so.
It was 2 am on a Friday night, and here you were trying to play how-long-can-i-avoid-dealing-with-my-issues in the middle of the night. the moon was probably shaking its head discouragingly at your actions.
But you had to deal with them somehow.
The lock unlocked rather violently after another lethal blow to its side, making you wince as it fell to the ground with defeat.
“Sorry Mr.Williams..” you mumbled under your breath.
Wiping the sweat from your brow, you drop the plump stone from your aching hand and picked up your duffle bag with the other ache-free hand. Pulling yourself up from the earth below and vigorously dusting the dirt from your bleached sweatpants, you pulled the gates of the basketball court open and tread inside.
Being Immediately flooded with the scent of burnt rubber, sweat and pissed on wood was like home to you. Dropping your Duffel bag on one of the many rotting wooden benches, you whisked out your hello kitty themed basketball (You brought it at a yard sale for only 12$) and your phone.
Scrolling through your many songs, you settled for 'Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace' Turning the volume allll the way to the max and resting it on the bench before taking all your frustration out on your poor hello kitty basketball, Spewing out empty insults like a drunken sailor who had been robbed of its booty.
___
You slouched against the pole of the basketball hoop, face flush and lungs aching as you took in another sharp breath. Wearying yourself out so much to the point where you couldn’t even think properly.
Why, you couldn’t even remember why you were so mad for!
. . .
...Nevermind.
You let out a frustrated groan, your body dragging itself down the pole until you sat flat on your arse. your head leaning back against the cold pole as you swore under your breath, staring into the star-filled night as you tried to relax.
“Breathe in..” You breathe in.
“Breathe out..” you breathe out.
“...Breathe in..” you breathe in.
“....Breathe out?” you breathe out. You squinting your eyes, staring as one of the many stars grew brighter and-
Closer?
But stars don’t move, nor do they grow larger in size the longer you stare at it.
Your breath hitched as your eyes opened to the size of dinner plates, soon realizing that this ‘star’ wasn't just getting brighter but was coming straight at you.
Scrambling to your feet, you flung yourself to the other side of the court. The ‘star’ whips over your head and over the courtyard, crash landing into the forest just behind it. A loud roar erupts from it as it hits the earth floor, causing a mini quake to shake the ground around you, sparking fires and Raising hell fire along with it as it dragged along the earth floor, ripping trees from the ground and spewing dirt and rock particles everywhere.
You took refuge under one of the now many slumped benches. Slapping your hands over your ears and squeezing your eyes shut, Silently praying to every god you know (which wasnt alot) as you waited out the quake. .
It felt like hours before it stopped (it was only 20 seconds). Time slowly dragged on as you slowly withdrew your hands from your ears and pulled yourself from your safe haven, body quivering as you stood staring slack-jawed at the direction the ‘star’ crash landed.
It was like a bomb had gone off.
Smoke and charred wood ashes drifted in the air like confetti, debris and dirt drifting in all directions like dust clouds as embers licked away at the top of obliterated trees and small patches of grass with glee.
“ …I’ve got to record this.”
Quickly shaking the shock from your bones you snatched your phone up and made your way out the basketball field, opening the camera and pressing record as you cautiously but carelessly made your way towards the wreckage.
Scorched soil crunched under your worn down shoes as smoke and ash ransacked your nose and pricked at your eyes, making them water as you pulled your shirt over your nose and mouth as a protective covering.
Watching your step, you made your way into the forest. low fires lighting up the area like a runway.
And you were the model.
_
Your ‘star’ was now upgraded to meteor as you stared at the bowl size crater a couple of feet away from you with doe eyes.
You pan the camera towards the crater. “Do you see how huge this thing is! Landed just behind the basketball court!” You explained to the camera, voice filled with excitement.
Stepping over an overthrown tree trunk while maneuvering your way around the low scaled fires ,you stood at the edge of the crater, staring down into it with great enthusiasm. There was clearly something in the middle of it but you couldn’t make it out for the life of you, even with the torches of fire nearby it was still impossible to make out anything. You bit your lip in thought.
What would a non-sensible person like yourself do?
Get a close look, of course.
“Just a closer look, that's all...” you promised.
Holding your phone in a death grip, you throw caution to the wind (which you would regret later) as you descend down the charred wall of the crater with shaking inticaption.
It was still hard to identify at first, lodged halfway within the dirt. but after little bit of digging with your foot and a bright phone light, you came to the conclusion that it was, infact-
“A Cube?” you asked yourself, looking down at it confusedly. Like a rubik's cube? But it was obviously not that, especially since it was encased in what looked like solid steel and marked with weird patterns, plus it was the size of a subway foot-long. What rubik's cube do you know is that big?
And why did it come from space?
Deciding to push that question to the back of your head for later questioning, you settled for dealing with the mystery guest whispering in your ear.
You started to hear distant whispering the closer you got to the crater but now that you stood in front of this alien cube it was louder than ever. It was like it was calling you from within its core, even if you couldn't understand a word it said.
Getting down on your knees, you lend a perked ear to the whispering cube, trying to hear it better.
“Hello?”
. . .
"...Closer….closer…" Came a distant voice.
Your skeleton leaped from your skin. Your blood ran cold as you yanked your ear back, staring at the soft spoken cube as if it just said your full address, date of birth and your full legal name with zero hiccups.
You didn't expect it to answer back, nevertheless give a command but now that it did you were more than willing to listen.
Resting your phone down, you slowly brought your ear back down to the cube. Resting your ear on, surprisingly, cold metal as you blocked out the surrounding sounds, only listening in for the voice.
. . .
“...The Chosen…one…”
“The Chosen one?” you repeated with a frown. What does that mean?
The cube decided to show you exactly what it meant.
You were suddenly flash-banged by a bright beam of light that had erupted from the etchings on the cube, your head whipping back as you covered your eyes with a startled yell.
You hear an audible whirring in front of you, probably from the cube, before a sickening, bed-lurching crunch fills the air. A blood-curdling scream ripped from your throat at what felt like a metal pole hotter than the sun's core that was being swung by Zeus Himself, hitting your chest at maximum speed.
Your vision went black.
__________
Your feet dragged along the forest floor, The sound of sirens falling deaf on your ears.
The smell of burning flesh made your stomach churn, your body threatening to collapse as you forced yourself to keep walking.
