Work Text:

Afternoon naps are Amy’s thing, for sure. But today it was Kirsten all snuggled up against Amy. Still holding her favourite book firmly, even in her deep sleep. Amy could not help but take in how her beautiful girlfriend was asleep so peacefully. In her arms. She felt at peace in her arms. That almost made Amy tear up.

Amy had never felt this way before. It was exciting, embarrassing, joyful and at the same time terrifying. She knows Kirsten would never judge her for the way she is processing these feelings that are so new to her. She never knew it could be this way.

When she really thinks about it, she realizes how much more strenuous her relationships with men would get. She used to tell herself that that is exactly how it is supposed to be. You get stressed, you get overwhelmed, you might even feel you cannot do it anymore. But in the end, she told herself this just is the way it is.

But it was not. Not with Kirsten any way. Kirsten had made her feel things she was unknown to. She taught her how tender, amorous, patient and generous a relationship can be. She considered Kirsten somewhat like the light of her life. Along with Poppy of course. And the little one that’s about to join them soon. Their own little happy family of four would often make Amy weep whenever she was alone because she had never pictured herself being where she was today. And it was all thanks to Kirsten, the one who had come into her life and turned things around. And she was ever so grateful.

It is not often that you meet someone and they change your life forever, obviously for the better. But Kirsten had done so. And Amy could barely believe it. They were raising their brave, smart and beautiful daughter while Kirsten was carrying their baby boy. She would be lying to herself if she said she had not thought about this from the very first day they made their relationship official. She looked at Kirsten, her beautiful girlfriend, and then glanced over at their bedside table’s second drawer.

It had been weeks since she bought a beautiful diamond ring, nothing fancy, just a simple one, knowing Kirsten would kick her arse if she went with what she actually wanted to get for her.

Amy had placed it in there in hopes of Kirsten finding it someday. Only because she didn't think she had the courage to ask her herself. But this was weeks ago. Her emotions were so all over the place that she could ask Kirsten to marry her right in this moment.

In no matter of time, Amy felt Kirsten moving away from her hold, in her sleep, she just gently pulled her up against her again.

Kirsten had a cheeky smile on her face. “I will not fall off the bed, I can promise you that much.”, she languished. Amy looked at her in the most loving way possible.

“I just want to stay close to you. That’s all.”, Amy replied softly and sincerely.

Kirsten rubbed her eyes slightly and placed her book on the bedside table, immediately turning to look up at Amy. She gently nudged Amy’s chin up, asking her to look her in the eyes without even saying it.

“Is everything alright?”, Kirsten asked, genuinely concerned.

This is why Amy finds it so embarrassing. She still finds it difficult to express her emotions. It is an overwhelming feeling but she really does not want to hide anything from Kirsten.

Kirsten can physically feel Amy thinking and she presses her body a little bit closer to her. “Hey! You can speak to me about anything. You know that, don't you?”, she says.

Amy does not say anything. She simply nods and brings Kirsten closer until she perfectly fits into her arms.

“Do you know how much you mean to me?”, Kirsten hears Amy whisper. A crack in her voice. She can feel Amy holding her so lovingly that she might just melt.

Amy slowly broke the hug and softly carassed Kirsten’s face. Their smiles so genuine, filled with emotions.

“Do you know how hopelessly in love I am? Me? Amy Silva? Who could've thought?”, she now had tears in her eyes. “I never thought I’d be where I am right now. Right here, with you. But now that I am, I feel like the universe had probably the best surprise awaiting me all this while and I am the luckiest person alive. I love you more than words can ever comprehend, Kirsten.”, she continued.

Kirsten had no idea where all of this was coming from but it did make her emotional. Amy’s love language had become words if affirmation over the course of their relationship and as happy it made Kirsten, she just wanted to take her girlfriend into an embrace and cry with her.

She held Amy’s hands and sat up. They were now facing each other, holding hands.

“Amy, I love you so much too. I really don't have any idea what has happened but I promise you I am okay, you are okay, Poppy is okay, our baby is okay. Everything is better than it ever has been. Is there something you aren't telling me? Something that I need to know? Something that should be worrying me as well?”, Kirsten was blabbering all worried.

Amy burst into a quick laughter. “No, actually not at all. There is nothing you should be worried about. Like you just said, everything is better than it ever has been. I am just so glad to have you as my person.”, Amy says.

“I feel just the same way DCI.”, Kirsten said, making Amy blush. “It truly is a magnificent miracle how you came into my life, somewhat as a mentor, but ended up being the mother of my child. Oh, Amy Silva, you are some influence on me.”, she continued.

Kirsten had the ability to make Amy giggle at the most ridiculous times and she had done it again.

Amy could not help but hold Kirsten’s head and bring her close to give her a soft peck on the lips. Although it was only supposed to be a peck, Kirsten brought her hands up to hold Amy’s face and brought her in closer and continued to kiss her. Softly at first, then sloppily.

They finally broke their kiss after a good few minutes, before things could get any more heated. Poppy was right in the next room; they simply could not risk it.

“Hey, sorry for being so weird about my feelings. Not only just now but mostly all the time. It just takes me some time to finally let my thoughts out, although you have helped me a lot in that area.”, Amy was genuinely grateful to Kirsten. “I know it can be difficult sometimes.. You know, being with me.”, she continued.

“Aye, it can be difficult a lot of the times DCI.”, Kirsten chuckled. So did Amy.

“Well you are not entirely wrong. And that is exactly why I’m going to say these next few sentences.”, Amy whispered, giving the cutest little smile to Kirsten as she got off of the bed and opened the drawer to get the little ring box out.

Kirsten realized what was just about to happen and she couldn't help but gasp. Her eyes immediately filling up with tears. Both Amy and Kirsten were on the verge of crying. Almost like one confession away from bursting into tears in front of each other.

“Kirsten, ever since you offered to get me that hot chocolate, even though you solely wanted me to help you prepare for your interview, I have not been the same, my life has not been the same. I wake up, thinking I get to spend my say with someone as wonderful, loving and patient as you are. The day you gave me and us a second chance was the day I decided to never give up on us, never give up on the life I had planned we were going to create while I was down there, trapped on that submarine. I wanted to fix all my mistakes and give you the life that you deserve.”, at this point, both of them were sobbing pretty loudly.

But Amy wasn't intending to stop anytime soon. “I need you to know that I love you. And there is nothing in the universe that can stop me, you or us from creating this beautiful life that we are. There is nobody else I’d get a cup of hot chocolate with, Kirsten Longacre. Okay maybe with Poppy and our little champ. But they are an exception, I suppose?” Both of them were laughing. Kirsten could hardly believe her eyes and ears.

“Kirsten, my love, will you marry me?”, Amy finally asked. She felt a huge sense of relief. She had been wanting to ask Kirsten for such a long time and now she has. She finally has.

“Yes! Oh, god, yes, Amy! I will marry you! I love you so much!”, Kirsten exclaimed. Nothing could have made Amy happier. The ring fit Kirsten perfectly. Their room was filled with sobs and chuckles and love.

They were snuggled up in a hug just when they heard a soft knock on the door and they immediately knew it was Poppy.

“Are you guys okay? Are you breaking up? Why are you crying?”, Poppy blurted out all the questions she could think of.

“Oh honey, not at all. In fact it’s the opposite of breaking up.”, Kirsten beamed as she raised her left hand up pointing to her ring finger.

“Oh my god! Mom? Did you actually propose?”, asked Poppy, shocked as ever.

“I definitely did, darling. And mumma said yes! Can you believe it? We are going to get married. I’m not exactly sure when but we will!,” Amy just could not stop blushing.

“I am really proud of you mom.” She gave her mom a kiss on the cheek as she turned to Kirsten. “Mumma, do you remember that time you got me all the presents for my birthday while mom was away on that submarine and couldn't make it?” Kirsten nodded to that. “When she came back, she already knew about you coming to see me. The day came to see me, she told me how she was going to fix things between you two. And also how you were her person. And that if she marries, it would only be you she'd get married to.”

Kirsten could barely control the tears that were rolling down her cheeks.

“Okay baby. Off you go. Thank you for spilling my secrets.”, Amy got up and opened the door so Poppy could go back into her room

“Oh, Amy!”, was all Kristen could say before she got up and gave Amy the warmest hug. “I am not kidding when I say I never thought of you as such a romantic. Amy Silva, you are going to be a huge trouble for me, aren't you?”, she continued.

“Well, you’ll have to see, am I right, Kirsten Longacre?”, Amy answered cheekily.

“Well then.”

“Well then. Fancy a cup of hot chocolate?”, asked Amy.

“Only with you.” Kirsten answered.
