They arrive in a crowded space.
Wonwoo unwraps his scarf, takes off the mittens, lets Seungkwan pamper him and put away his jacket and his beanie.
Jihoon barely has a thin coat on and immediately throws it on Soonyoung who can't stop whistling after the door behind them closes.
Wonwoo wraps his arm around Jihoon and maneuvers them around the room, dodging some of their already drunk friends.
Junhui seems to be enjoying something hot and blazingly red, so naturally Wonwoo sits next to him, putting Jihoon in his lap.
"Happy New Year, Junnie!"
Junhui gulps a visibly ginormous bite. He grins, yelling out a "hello" while simultaneously dabbing whatever stew leftover is on his face.
"Happy New Year, babies!"
"I thought Mingyu was your baby," Jihoon comments, caressing Junhui's face before moving a streak of hair away from his eyes and behind his ear.
"You can all be my babies!" Junhui exclaims. "How are you guys?"
"You know me, Junnie," Wonwoo shrugs. They spoke on the phone a few hours ago, so it feels a bit redundant to repeat what he said earlier in the day. But he indulges his friend anyway and answers. "It's great, I'm great."
Junhui seems to love the response he got and turns his attention to his other friend.
"I'm good," Jihoon says, eyes wandering away from Junhui for a moment. "I have a meeting on Tuesday and I have to present the next quarter plans, and Taehyun still hasn't finished the Powerpoint, but hopefully it will be alright."
Wonwoo looks around, trying to detect what Jihoon was searching for, and bingo..
Keeping Jihoom comfortable, Wonwoo bends across the table and pokes Chan in the arm.
Chan spins around and gives Wonwoo his beautiful toothy smile.
"Hyung! Hi."
Wonwoo can't help but return the gesture.
"Hi Channie, can you pass me the Coke Zero cans?"
"Sure!" Chan takes two cans in front of himself and passes them to Wonwoo, his touch as gentle as always. "How have you been? I know you texted me that you were fine, but I couldn't help but worry."
Wonwoo chuckles, placing one can on the table and another in Jihoon's hand. Jihoon and Junhui converse without a second of hitch, Jihoon not breaking eye contact even as he cleans and opens the can.
The attention is turned back on Chan and Wonwoo nods at the younger. "I'm good. My brother and his wife came to visit us the previous weekend and we had a Christmas dinner."
Chan wiggles his eyebrows. "A double date then?"
Wonwoo fights the urge to tighten his grip on the man in his lap. "Perhaps."
"Cute," Chan pouts. "I wish I had as romantic a Christmas dinner as yours."
Wonwoo leans closer to Chan. "Why?"
Chan shakes his head, noticing the worried expression on his friend's face. "He was working all night and we didn't even have time to FaceTime on his dinner break."
"I'm sure he was just too busy. I can only imagine how tough it is working on the pediatrics on Christmas."
"I know, but it still sucks! He didn't even have time to read my messages until he woke up the next day at 5PM!"
Wonwoo taps Chan's arm. "There, there. The New Year is coming up and there's going to be plenty of romantic holidays you two can spend together."
Chan puts his face in hands, resting his elbows on the table. "Hopefully."
The screams echo across the hall. Chan and Wonwoo both look up, and the scene greeting them is something completely within the norm of their friendship group.
Seokmin enters the room running, Seungkwan on his back, somehow also wearing his jacket and his oversized backpack. The two men let out more screams until they dropped on the floor together.
"Boo, you guys suck, do it again, this time properly!" Chan taunts them.
Seungkwan untangles himself from underneath Seokmin and jumps in the air. "I'll show you who sucks!"
"Please stop involving us in your kinks."
Someone says across the table and Wonwoo is pretty sure those words were uttered by none other than Minghao, if the exhausted glare he is sending to the married couple is anything to go by.
Mingyu snickers by his side, and yep, Minghao definitely said that.
Wonwoo leans in his seat, rearranging Jihoon around so his legs don't become numb so early in the evening.
"They are so cute," he catches Junhui saying, and it takes him a second to realize both Jihoon and Junhui also followed the moment of absurdity called Chan and Seungkwan flirting in public.
"Marriage only made them more obsessed with each other," Jihoon comments. He leans back, resting his head on Wonwoo's shoulder.
"It was such a beautiful wedding reception. Your speech was so beautiful Jihoonie, I don't remember if I ever cried that hard in public," Junhui mentions.
"You were crying the whole night!"
"I love weddings!" Junhui wails. "There's so much love going around and the food is always so good! How can I not be emotional then?"
Jihoon takes a sip from the gray can. "Of course, of course, Junnie! I agree. It was indeed a beautiful wedding."
Junhui grins and grabs his glass of soju. He angles it so Jihoon's can and the glass can touch, his smile becoming even wider when the clanking sound can be heard.
"Yeah, and the grooms were so cute in their matching outfits. Were you two also matching?"
Wonwoo's arms wrap tighter around Jihoon's waist. Jihoon gulps uncomfortably. Junhui stares at them both, face dropping with each passing second.
Jihoon coughs. "Uhm, Jun, we weren't together during Seungkwan and Chan's wedding."
Realization flashes on Junhui's face. The comedic moment doesn't end, no, because in that moment someone knocks on the threshold, and two figures enter the room.
Junhui's expression mirrors the one of a deer in the headlights. "Crap, I forgot."
Joshua and Taehyung greet everyone enthusiastically and both Jihoon and Wonwoo raise their arms to wave at them.
"Awkward," Junhui mutters and Wonwoo nudges him softly.
"Don't worry, it's fine. It's been a long time," he says. Jihoon hums and Wonwoo leaves a peck on his fluffy head. "I have someone special now anyways."
