Chapter Text
Kento had officially gotten into his new morning routine, a positive for him because without a routine he feels restless and overall out of order. He now would wake up at 5:30 a.m. to begin his day. First He'd take a shower and do his very basic skincare routine and get dressed for work. Then he would go to check on Yuji, in what used to be his guest bedroom but now was Yuji's room, and get him dressed for the day. Then he would start breakfast for the two of them, for him, it was a blueberry and kale smoothie with honey as his sweetener and a bacon breakfast sandwich, for Yuji, who was only two years old there was a small amount of Kento's smoothie but in a bowel and a fried egg on the side. After breakfast, around 7:15 a.m. Kento would drop Yuji off at the daycare and head to work, walking into this office at exactly 7:45 a.m. on time as usual.
His work as a back-end software engineer wasn't hard by any means, he loved what he did. He graduated top of his class from a good college with a job immediately after graduation making over six figures. Working with the backend programming languages was almost natural to him, he loved working the computer to make the code do exactly what he was tasked to have it do. Even if it took hours to find the bug that was causing the problem Kento had no issues with it as long as it did not hold him up from leaving work on time. Before overtime was something he had just disliked because of it imposing onto his own personal free time, but now it was imposing onto Yuji's time with Kento and that would be a problem. With that said Kento has only ever had to stay overtime one time in his entire career, it was not a good day for the intern whose negligence caused him to stay after work unnecessarily. Kento was never aggressive or overtly rude, his temper was just a bit shorter, but his voice was multiple times over sterner than usual.
His work day went the same as usual, after he got situated in his office he'd check his emails for emails on anything work-related and then continue on his current projects. For lunch, he would walk down the street from his office building to a niche but enjoyable cafe for a jasmine tea with honey and a chicken and avocado sandwich. He would eat in to enjoy the low but noticeable jazz that made the inside of the cafe a nice distraction from his work. After lunch, he would have to deal with Gojo Satoru, another back-end software engineer who happened to be his closest friend since high school, not that he would ever admit that out loud though. Then once he has finally kicked Gojo out or even better Gojo left of his own volition, Kento would continue his work knowing there were only a few more hours left until he could leave and pick Yuji up and blow off steam at the gym.
Today, however right before Kento could start using the last 15 minutes of his work day to prepare to leave the office, he received an email stating that there was an emergency and that there was a problem that would require the senior back-end software engineers to start a previously submitted problem over from the top. To make matters worst the completion time estimate was an additional 330 hours on top of his current projects, meaning that he was either going to work a lot of overtime or that he was going to be working his ass off. Neither of which was pleasing to him, he continued to read the email already annoyed to find that there were only three senior back-end engineers available to fix this, himself, Gojo, and Y/n. Three people out of a whole damn department to fix a project that's estimated to take 330 hours. If the email notification itself wasn't already a damper on his mood, the email and the information it contained definitely was.
Checking the clock he noticed that the last 10 minutes had passed and he only had 5 minutes until 4:30. He powered off his PC and packed up his laptop and the few other things he brings to and from his office and made his way to pick up Yuji. He makes his way out of the building and sits in his car his head briefly lying on the steering wheel before picking up his phone and opening his messages. He looks down at the top and only conversations; Mom, Gojo,
Kento - Meet me at the gym, I'm going to pick up Yuji.
Gojo - You must've seen the email then, can I see Yuji please Kenken :(
Kento - I told you to stop calling me that, Yuji will be in the gym's child center. You're listed as an emergency contact so they'll let you in. Be quick.
Gojo - Thank you Kenken ^.^
The drive to Yuji's daycare center is thankfully near by Kento's workplace, so it doesn't take him too long to arrive. Once he walks into the building the buzz of women dials down as the women watch Kento walk towards Yuji's "classroom". The whispers begin the second they believe they are out of his earshot. "Who is that man?" a woman asks "What, you haven't seen him yet. That's Nanami, he's Yuji's father" her friend volleys back "Father?! But he looks so young" "He's not his father, I've heard Yuji call him by his first name" another woman chimes in, "Is he single?".Kento begins to ignore them as they watch and gossip as he signs the paper and Yuji comes running at his legs. Kento picked him up as if he weighed nothing and promptly turned towards the exit where the three ladies stood. Knowing that they are talking about his relationship with Yuji he almost wants to say something, but knowing his attitude from work has yet to die down he keeps his mouth shut as he walks past them.
Working Yuji into the car seat in the back of the car was no easy task. The boy was as energetic and rowdy as usual, despite that the boy's presence slightly calmed Kento's nerves. For others, rowdy children tend to get annoying, but for Kento, nothing put him more at peace than seeing the innocent joy children had when life was good. It gave him purpose after his sister passed and he was Yuji's only caretaker. However, after a day like today that childish joy couldn't brighten his mood past a small smile when he looked at the boy. Getting back into the front seat of the car after getting Yuji seated, Kento asked him about his day only to be returned babbles with a word or two thrown in every few seconds. He continued to speak to him because he read somewhere that in order for babies to learn how to speak they must be spoken to, makes sense. The mix of Yuji's babbling and Kento's speaking makes the drive to the gym much faster than usual.
Arriving at the gym Kento gets Yuji and himself along with his gym bag out of the car and walks into the building with Yuji in his arm. The child center in the gym is nice, clean, and kid safe, the staff seems to be good with children though that doesn't stop Kento from checking Yuji's body for marks when he picks him up. The pastel coloring is a glaring difference from the black and chrome style of the gym, but it's for the children so he could care less about the clashing aesthetics of the two spaces. Overall Kento couldn't be more thankful for the gym's child center, God bless those wonderful people. He walks over to the child check-in station and the usual lady is there doing check-ins.
"Hello Yuji and Kento, happy to see you both again!" She pushes some of her hair behind her ear before reaching her hand out to poke Yuji's fat baby hand.
"Hello." he pushes out as he leans over to sign the paperwork careful not to bump Yuji's body on the counter or drop his bag.
"There was a strange man with blond almost white hair asking about Yuji about a few minutes ago, is he someone we should be aware of? If so we can have him removed from the gym." she asks in a more serious tone compared to a few seconds ago.
"No no that won't be needed. He's a friend of mine. I added him to the emergency contacts list during my last visit. His name is Gojo Satoru, he is a trusted adult for Yuji. Thank you though for letting me kn-"
"There you areeeee! Oh my goodness look at you it's been so long since I've seen you, that mean mean man is keeping you away from me. He can't stand to see us together, no he can't."
Kento's sentence is cut short by Gojo seeing him and Yuji and taking him from Kento's arms. If it were anybody else who had attempted what he just did Kento would be going to jail for murder, but because it was Gojo, Kento deadpanned at the dumb blond and turned back to the check-in lady who looked shocked at how unresponsive Kento was to Gojo's actions.
"That's the man from earlier," she says in an almost awe-like state watching Gojo babble with Yuji. Kento isn't sure if she's in awe of Gojo's looks, or how ridiculous he looks babbling. Either way, Kento is used to both looks from the people who are unfortunate enough to witness Gojo.
Kento takes one more look at Yuji and Gojo's collective babbling before sighing and telling Gojo to hurry up and give Yuji up. Despite his pouting Gojo does it and catches up to Kento who is a few feet away from the locker room. Silently walking into the locker room Kento goes over to the changing area and prepares for his workout. In a pair of grey sweatpants and a black compression, Kento was more than aware of his body, the way the compression clung to his body highlighting every muscle, and how the sweatpants hung at the widest parts of his hips, leaving the pants a bit lower than he would've liked. Kento looked at his body, a complete 180 from the skinny teenager he once was. Although he wouldn't consider himself a "gym bro" he did like taking care of his body, and according to the large mirror on the wall he was facing, he was doing a very good job. He stared at himself a bit longer before going into the boxing area, which thankfully was empty, and starting his stretches.
Gojo took an additional ten minutes as usual which normally wouldn't phase Kento, but today it definitely did not help his already bad mood. The second they were both in the ring and prepared they immediately began to spring a barrage of punches at each other. Kento usually fought defensively with a devastating punch after a few of Gojo's, But today he was fighting hard and angry, landing jabs on Gojo's stomach as he was caught in a headlock and Gojo was beating on his face. A few minutes of this fast pace Gojo backs up to catch his breath.
"I know the email made you mad but damn, are you sure there's nothing else on your mind." Gojo huffs out as he looks for weak spots in Kento's defensive stance.
"No, it's just the email. I mean come on 330 more hours of work on top of what they already have us assigned. Hell yeah, I'm mad." He says just as he lands a right hook on Gojo's face.
"Okay okay we get it, ease up off of the face though, how am I supposed to continue getting women if you ruin my face" he throws back a jab to the stomach and then a hook to the face to get back at Kento.
The two continued sparring for what felt to be about 30 minutes to them but was an hour and a half in reality. They only realize when Kento's alarm goes off distracting Gojo just long enough for Kento to get one finale hit in and knock the wind out of him. Stepping out of the ring Kento turns his alarm off and throws back some water, ignoring how Gojo is yelling in the background about it being an unfair hit. Kento shakes his head access sweat flying off as he lets out a small chuckle.
"Thanks again for... this, I really needed this Gojo." Kento says tossing Gojo his own water bottle.
"Stop thanking me for this you're making me feel weird and tingly Kenken!" Gojo says after he catches his water bottle, mocking school girls talking to their crush.
Kento stares at him for a second wondering why they're still friends after all this time before leaving the boxing are collecting Yuji and leaving the gym to go home.
"Hello Yuji, how was the play area" he asks as he checks the time seeing that it's only 6:35 p.m. leaving him with time to get them home, make dinner for himself and Yuji, plus time for them to spend together, then prepare both of the for bed after a long day. Yuji of course responds with babbles and a few words mixed in. Kento cant help but chuckle at how cute and carefree he is.
