[Podfic] a flicker, a spark

Summary:

“She truly is your daughter, Alex,” Henry sighs, defeated.

“Fuck off, sweetheart,” he laughs, a soundbite of the sun. Henry forces himself not to physically react, the term of endearment sweet and menacingly familiar coming from Alex’s lips. It’s been years. “You know they’re useful.”

“Ah yes, eyelashes, truly a formidable instrument in managing international relations.”

Alex grins, and Henry is too late to catch the slightest downward lilt on the corner of his mouth, “Worked on you once, didn’t it?”

Oh, did that ache.

(Much had happened since the time Henry had told Alex to leave. Alex had passed the bar, gotten married, had the most beautiful daughter. And Henry, well. He stayed right where he was.)

Podfic of a flicker, a spark by acastle.

Now complete! Run time of 8 hours, 13 minutes.

Notes:

Author's Note from acastle
canon diverged from kensington, so all scenes that follow after never happened
-this follows mostly book canon and thus refers to the primary source material, in terms of characters included and the structure of many scenes and lines, but i retained some film references, especially with regards to particular bits of dialogue and monikers
-i am not american, nor am i english/british. I did do as much research as i could, but i hope any mistakes regarding anything specific to those cultures can be forgiven (i’m sure there are many). also, on that point, english is not my first language, and since this is told entirely from henry’s perspective, i deferred to the british spelling and british terms as much as i could.
-i had set out to write 20k. well, hilariously, i overdid it, as you can see. this is a labor of love. i hope it comes across.

Podficcer's Note: I was completely bowled over by this fic, and honestly still am. The author's beautifully nuanced treatment of love, grief, and everything in between is just . . . beyond words! To read their very humble author's note and see that they are not writing in their first language is absolutely mind boggling to me. So much pure poetry in this work.
Anyway, the author and I do have something in common: I too, am neither American nor British, though I am Canadian so I sort of have a foot in both countries I guess! I did have to google and youtube some pronunciations for Mexican and Filipino words, and I apologize for where I got those wrong because it wasn't always clear to me. I may also stumble in my British accent from time to time, but hopefully that can mostly be written off as Henry's signature quiet uncertainty.
This podfic will be posting as a WIP, with updates weekly. I debated waiting and posting all at once but I'm sorry--I just love the WIP culture and experiencing every chapter with an audience! They are all long chapters, at least an hour each. Think of it as a weekly episode of your favourite angsty show.
Thank you to thesleepyskipper for the gorgeous cover art!!

Important Note:
Great news! My dear fandom friend rufusbear has done me a huge favour and turned this into one massive mp4 file that you can download as you would an audiobook. You can find it here!
