Chapter 1: "Take my jacket, it's cold outside"

Chapter Text

The biting wind was unbearable.

Not to Hunter, anyway, but it clearly was for Chase, who suppressed yet another shiver as the breeze picked up. They were investigating some old warehouse that, like all abandoned and decrepit buildings, was full of holes and incredibly drafty. Hunter, sporting his usual dark grey hoodie and scarf, didn’t mind it too much. Chase, though?

For some unfathomable reason, Chase had left his jacket in the car, insisting he was fine in just a long-sleeved shirt. That had gotten less true as the night went on; minor fidgeting gradually turned into full shudders, with Chase wrapping his arms around his abdomen in a futile attempt to retain some body heat.

After the umpteenth shiver, Hunter had had enough. “That’s it, we’re going back to the car.”

“What?” Chase asked, eyes going wide. “Why?”

“Because I’d prefer you not develop hypothermia,” Hunter retorted.

“It’s not that cold-“

Hunter glared at him.

“…Okay, it’s a little cold,” Chase admitted. “But I’m fine, really! And besides, we’re almost at the boiler room. It’s supposed to be the most haunted room in this place!”

Of course that’s what he’s worried about, Hunter thought with a roll of the eyes. “Fine, but at least take my jacket, then.”

He pulled off his hoodie and handed it to Chase, who took it with a frown. “Won’t you be cold though?”

“I’ll be fine,” Hunter replied. The thick sweater he had on would stave off the worst of the chill until they returned to the car, and besides, he wasn’t as lean as Chase was. “Just… put it on, okay? I don’t want to drag your frostbitten corpse out of here.”

Chase rolled his eyes, but put the hoodie on anyway.

“Better?” Hunter asked.

“...Yeah. Thanks, man.” Chase already looked warmer, his shivering dying down until it ceased altogether. Even zipped up, the hoodie swam on him; the long sleeves stopped just past his hands. It was actually kind of cute-

Nope, not going there , Hunter told himself firmly. “No problem, now let’s hurry up and check the boiler room so we can get out of this place already.”

Chase stuck his tongue out, but followed it with a bright smile. And if anyone asked, Hunter’s cheeks were burning from the cold, not from the blushing he definitely wasn’t doing.
