Work Text:
“It was me, guapito” confessed Cellbit, and then quickly added “But I swear I didn’t know the crops were yours!”
“It wasn’t Slime?!” Roier was outraged.
He had woken up to an ‘important meeting’ were Quackity had explained to them what had happened to their island after Etoiles went to sleep and the duck was on his turn to guard their base.
“I tried to get back at Bolas Rojas through Cellbit, but then curfew was called”, he had added.
“I knew you knew about Slime’s attack, but I would’ve never imagined you…” Roier trailed off.
“You know I would’ve never touched them if I had known you planted them!”
And Roier knew he wouldn’t.
He was still pissed off at him, but he knew he wouldn’t.
He also wasn’t about to waste the little time they had together mad at his husband. He would pick on him about that later, through their communicators.
“It’s fine, pendejo . Actually, it’s not fine. I’d make you repair it if I wasn’t putting you at risk in the process”
“I’ll make it up to you” Cellbit promised, looking at his husband guiltily.
“How?” Roier raised one eyebrow, incredulous.
“I’m bringing you enough ingredients for avocado toast to make at least a stack”
“That’s a big promise, considering variety of food is hard to find around these islands” Roier acknowledged.
“I’ll manage” was all Cellbit said, making Roier smile a little. It was enough of a win for the brazilian.
They settled into a comfortable silence, both of them enjoying the breeze and colors of the sunset, sitting on the ground by the sea in an island between their own bases.
Cellbit’s fingers found Roier’s, his hand still giving the rest of his body support.
Roier started softly mumbling a song, one Cellbit recognized as one from Brasil he showed him a long time ago. He smiled fondly.
After a few minutes like that, Cellbit remembered something.
“Carre is going serious about his vengeance, you know that?”
“I figured.” responded Roier, amused “I wanted him to, to be honest. Keeps me entertained”
Cellbit would be lying if he said he wasn’t a bit surprised by that answer.
“I did warn him not to start something with you, in the first place”
“Did you?”
“Nah, I was actually looking fordward to see you fighting” Cellbit admitted with a sly grin.
“But then Fit killed you.” Roier laughed, and Cellbit just stared blankly at him “I warned them all you where absolutely off the table, but I guess we were all seeing… red, you know ?”
“Yes, yes, red, like my team.” Cellbit rolled his eyes at the pun, a little smile on his face.
Neither of them said anything for a while, taking their time to admire the waves and the peace that they brought.
“Talking about seeing red,” Cellbit started “I always knew you hid your abilities, but I had never seen this side of you. So- so bloodthirsty”
“Do you find it attractive?” teased Roier, laying his head on his opposite shoulder, so that Cellbit could see the playful smile he had glued on his face, two brown half lidded eyes looking at him mischievously, glowing in such a pretty way.
Cellbit could’ve sworn he felt chills travel down his arms, his heart missing a beat.
He thought getting Roier into his world would be a little hard –at least at first– even despite the mexican feeling the same kind of void he felt. Seeing him like this, though…
“I do”
They would dive into insanity together.
They just had to survive these two weeks apart first, and then prepare for the worst – considering the cursed team situation.
Both of them started closing the distance between eachother, Roier feeling somewhat jittery, a flutter in his stomach in anticipation.
As if this was the first time I kissed my literal husband, Roier internally laughed at himself.
Cellbit did look specially handsome in that light, with those beautiful eyes and the start of a beard starting to grow. Not even mentioning the sleeveless t-shirt he now wore, accentuating his toned arm muscles.
Cellbit gently put his hand against the other’s cheek, looking down at his lips before returning to his brown eyes, and they were mere centimeters away when suddenly Roier felt his communicator vibrate, abruptly interrupting them.
ElQuackity whispered to Roier: Elotes me pidió que te dijera que necesitamos que entregues tus tareas individuales.
‘Etoiles asked me to let you know we need you to deliver your individual tasks’.
Roier whispered to ElQuackity: ya voy, dame 7 horas.
ElQuackity whispered to Roier: vas a dejar de ser su favorito si por tu culpa perdemos este día jajajajaja
Roier snorted. There was no way Etoiles would stop considering him his best weapon. They trained together often and had bonded a lot, cheering eachother up constantly.
But just in case…
Roier sighed disappointed, then gave Cellbit a peck in the cheek before sitting up straight again.
“Gatinho, they need me back at my base. The base you must know really well by now. Specially my crops”
“Stop. I said I’m sorry” Cellbit pleaded, and Roier laughed “Let’s sneak out again, please” he asked, admittedly a bit saddened they couldn’t stay awake until late like they had planned to.
“I’ll text you, gatinho. Probably won’t be tomorrow so it’s not suspicious, but the next day sounds good to me”
“Alright. Goodnight, guapito, get some rest”
They embraced eachother for the last time that afternoon, and after a quick kiss Cellbit thought was way too short, they both stood up and took their ways.
“Okay, Elotes, individual tasks done” Roier announced while the green man sharpened his sword.
“That’s very good, Roier, but I wasn’t worried about that. We are way ahead already” Etoiles smiled widely at Roier before returning to his blade.
Huh?
“But- but Quackity said you-“
“Roier, Elotes” greeted Quackity out of nowhere, throwing an arm over Roier’s shoulder “Hey, want me to help you replant your potatoes?”
“Sure” the brunet nodded “tomorrow morning”
That moment had arrived considerably fast.
Roier would’ve accepted his friend’s help anyway, but he was also curious as to why he had lied about the tasks, and he intended to ask him directly.
So he was now sweating himself out at nine in the morning, using his own hands to press down the earth above the roots of his new crops after the both of them had relocated the sprouts.
“Hey, I brought you something to drink” Roier raised his head, only to find Quackity offering him a glass of icy water.
“Oh shit, let me wash my hands”
Roier stood up and walked towards the lake, putting his hands in and scrubbing them, getting rid of the excess of dirt. He dried them off on his pants then walked back, stopping in front of his friend.
“Thank you” he said sincerely, and he started gulping down the glass of water.
Quackity’s eyes followed intently a water drop that went from the corner of his mouth, traveling down his chin, all the way down his neck until draining on a random spot of his white t-shirt – his hoodie tied at his waist, either to avoid getting it dirty or because of the hot weather, Quackity presumed.
His friend was not ugly at all.
He was also good with crops, and an optimal fighter too.
He was reliable, and let’s not forget he knew all of Quackity’s favorite mexican songs, always down to sing with him with that deep voice of his while they worked together.
The only defect Quackity could think of by the top of his head: he rushed into that stupid marriage.
He didn’t necessarily hate Cellbit, but the man tended to get into his way way too often.
“Quackity, por qué me mentiste ayer?”
“What do you mean?” Quackity played dumb, kneeling down beside him to help keep settling the earth around the sprouts.
“You know exactly what I mean, culero. Etoiles didn’t need me in our base”
“I mean, that’s what I thought he said. Maybe he was just being silly, or sarcastic. Or maybe I just misheard” he shrugged casually, and saw by the corner of his eyes Roier nod slowly.
“Fair enough” he simply said, shrugging too.
Roier didn’t know if he believed him completely, but he decided not to dig too deep into it.
If Quackity was telling the truth, there was nothing else to discuss. And if it was a lie, well… he enjoyed drama, anyway, so the situation only amused him as long as Quackity didn’t overstep.
He would still see his gatinho in the next few days either way, even if the last secret date –apparently not that secret– had been cut short.
“This is completely true by the way, Bagi called us all for a meeting after lunch. Something about the cursed team and the leads she has found” informed the younger.
“It’s almost noon already, I’ll go take a bath before that” Roier stood up and shook the dirt off his hands.
“Ey, no te sacudas tan cerca de mí, pendejo, me tiraste toda tu mugre”
“No mames, Quackity, pues ya párate del suelo tú también”
Cellbit stood by the entrance of his base, waiting for the rest of his team to return from their respective trips collecting resources.
He was navigating around the idea of texting Quackity after Slime begged him to apologize to him and form their precious alliance.
Cellbit thought it was unnecessary, since he and Etoiles were on good terms, and he had his husband and his twin sister in that team, but Slime reminded him how they had raided them and killed Quackity multiple times. He could easily pull the ‘loyalty of the team’ card.
Even if Cellbit hated to admit it, he was right.
As he was about to type into his communicator, a message arrived to the general chat, followed by another sent to his private messages.
Elquackity: roier, te estamos esperando mi rey, te guardé asiento a mi ladito
Elquackity whispered Cellbit: :)
Elquackity whispered Cellbit: If you still want to talk business, I’ll send you the coords to meet up this time. Like on Sunday, come alone and be there on time.
To Cellbit, it instantly reminded him of something ‘the other Quackity’ would say – the one who declared war on him during the elections. Trying to ‘get him mad’ by using his husband as leverage…
If he only knew how little that did to Cellbit, who blindly trusted his husband.
Either way, if it was true that that Quackity had returned, it was something important to take into consideration for Roier’s and his future plans.
They’d have to be more careful.
On the other hand, ElQuackity considering Roier someone close to him was something they could and would use to their favor.
