The Love You Want
Before he was summoned by the clergy, Rain was always surrounded by aquatic life. Whenever Rain got the chance, he would talk about sharks, otters, penguins, fish, and anything in between. It was 12:45 in the afternoon. Everyone decided to gather in the lunch room in the Ministry, and while they got their meals situated, the ghouls and ghoulettes eagerly sat around the table and listened in awe while Rain rambled, watching his eyes light up with excitement. Cirrus would ask Rain questions about different fish species, and he would always be eager to answer. Swiss would act out his best animal impressions while getting very obvious side eyes and giggles from the other ghouls and ghoulettes. And then there would be Dewdrop, watching his partner from across the room with deep admiration. Saying nothing, just drinking in how passionate his precious droplet was.
Shortly after the conversation dies, everyone dismisses back to their rooms. Rain is washing his dishes, and Dew stays behind to help put everything back in the cabinets. After everything is taken care of, Rain lets out a short sigh. Dew looked him in his eyes, knowing something in his mood had shifted. “Everything okay, my droplet?” Dew asked, his eyebrow furrowed. Rain pauses for a brief moment. Nervously fiddling with his shirt, he answers hesitantly, “I think I’m just a bit homesick, love. There’s something so tranquil about the water. Something about the way the icy blue mixed into the deep navy. I miss the comfort of being consumed by the vastness of it all. And all of the little animals that live there, it just makes me think of my time before the summoning. I think… I wish there was a way to bring my home back up here.” Dew looks at Rain with a softened gaze. He reaches over, grabbing his hand to stop him from picking at his sleeves. They take a minute to just look at each other, taking in each other's gaze. Dew knows the feeling all too well, and Rain’s eyes start to well up with tears. Before he can let a tear fall, Dew is wrapping himself in Rain’s arms. They stand there for a while, Rain shudders in his embrace holding back tears, and Dew squeezes tighter. They sink down to the floor still holding each other and take a moment to collect themselves. “What if we go back to your room, get you all changed and comfortable and we can watch a show to unwind. Would that be okay?” Dewdrop asks his partner. With slightly lighter eyes, Rain looks up to him and nods. They make their way down the corridor, hand in hand. Rain opens the door to the room, entering slowly and Dew following suit. Dew finds sweatpants and a cozy hoodie, Rain gets washed up and changed. They put on their favorite show and slowly nod off until the next morning…
After waking up, Dew leaned over to his partner and kissed him on the forehead in his half asleep state. Rain barely stirred as he felt the warmth of Dew’s lips press on to his skin. Dew decided to pick up a few things in Rain’s room, got changed into his clothes and left to go back to his quarters. All he could think about was how he was going to make his mate feel better. How does one bring the water to the water ghoul…
Lazily, Dew makes his way back onto his bed to “rest his eyes” and before he knows it, he has passed out on top of his comforter.
Dew shot up from his bed rapidly from an unexpected two and a half hour nap. While he’s catching his breath, he looks down at his phone and sees a text from Mountain. Mountain? The text was hazy, he rubs the sleep from his eyes. The text reads, Would you want to come with me to get lunch? We haven’t hung out just you and I in a while, lets catch up! .. Fuck, he had to get ready and his mind was already racing trying to figure out how to make Rain feel better. His brain is so groggy from that unexpected nap that it feels like he is floating in an alternate dimension. It takes him a minute to get back to reality, and his mind slows. Take care of Rain, meet with Mountain, take care of Rain, meet up with Mount- Then it hits him like a twelve tonne boulder. MOUNTAIN. Mountain can help him find a way to bring the water back to Rain! Mounty had always been very close friends with Rain, both of them were such gentle beings and they grew up in the Pit together. Mountain knew a lot about plants, the earth, and the creatures that inhabited the plains above. Rain helped balance out the oddness of water and earth when they had met. Oh this was perfect!! Dew grabs his phone with eagerness and types back in response, Absolutely! It really has been a while. Also, I may have a favor to ask you… Send. Dew waits for Mounty’s reply for a few minutes while he’s brushing through his hair to look less disheveled. No response, yet. He takes his time getting dressed.
An hour passes by, still no response. After putting his jacket on and grabbing his bag, he reaches for his phone on his nightstand. Bzz Bzz. He picks up his phone to read the notification, Mountain Liked this Message. Like clockwork. His face lights up, and he grabs his bag and starts to head out the door.
As he is heading down the corridor, he sees Rain emerge from his room in his light blue crew neck and his black jogger style sweatpants. Their eyes meet. “Hello my firefly”, Rain says with a specific lightness in his voice that tells Dew he is feeling much better after last night. He reaches up to bring his palm to Rains cheek and plants a light kiss to his lips, “Hello my droplet, I wanted to stop by and make sure you were doing okay before I met with Mounty for lunch. How are you feeling?” Rain furrows his eyebrows, not in an accusatory way, but slight curiosity. “Oh you’re going to meet with Mountain? Good! It’s been a while since you guys have seen each other outside of the project. Are you leaving now?” Dew looks in his eyes. He can see his partner looking for a way for him to linger with him. Oh how he loved spending time with Rain. But he had to go to lunch with Mount. “Yeah I was just heading out to meet him, we are going to stop at that cafe that you like! Do you want me to bring you anything on my way home?” Dew would do anything for Rain, even if it was as simple as bringing him back a chocolate croissant from the cafe bakery. He can see Rains cheeks flush rose pink, ever so slightly against his blue gray tinted skin. “I would love a chocolate croissant if they have any left.” He knew it. “You’re always so sweet to me Dewdrop. I won’t keep you any longer, I will see you when you get back my love.” Rain says with sincerity. They both lean in, exchanging a small touch and a kiss. “I won’t be long, once I get back my attention is all yours.” Dew says, reassuringly. He makes his way out the Ministry doors and heads toward that small cafe.
Mountain is already waiting and ordered them both their usual coffees. Dew was a simple ghoul, he always wanted to drink a cappuccino, and Mountain always got a caramel macchiato. Once their drinks were brought out, they got to chatting and ordering a sandwich to split while they caught up. Mountain talked about how Papa gave him a larger greenhouse space for his plants and how he’s going to add a koi fish pond, and Dew got to tell him how excited he was to get a fireplace installed into his bedroom! It was nice catching up and talking about their tasks outside of the project. They both took a pause from conversation, Mountain swirls his coffee and looks in Dews direction. “So, you asked if I could do you a favor. What kind of favor are we talking about?” He smirks. Dew’s eyes got wide, he shot Mountain a glance and immediately shut him down, despite the temptation to egg him on. “No no not THAT kind of favor!” He spouts. “I just… I just needed some help with something. For Rain. He’s been feeling really homesick and I wanted to see if you knew how to help me bring a bit of home to him. I’m not very good at these types of things and I know you two are really close and grew up together…” He rambles on and Mountain can see he is getting physically worked up to the point that his head is spinning. “Hey hey, breathe for a second” Mount grabs Dews forearm to help ground him and bring him back to reality. “Okay okay hold on spitfire, why’s this got you so worked up? You know Rain just as well as I do. Let’s pause for a second and I can help you brainstorm some ideas.” The intense look in Dew’s eyes softened. He can finally feel his heart rate slow. Mountain's eyes flickered with positivity and happiness, like he really wanted to help his friend. The gentle giant was always there to help the fire ghoul when he got stressed. They decide to continue to eat their meals, while Mountain surfed and searched the internet for ideas to surprise Rain and make him feel better. Dew is writing notes in his notebook, because he hates always relying on a screen for information. It helps him remember information better, too. Then, all of the sudden Mountain pauses, a curious look on his face. His face twists and he immediately taps Dews arm, he is electrified with his new finding. “Dew, this is THE PERFECT PLACE”, Mountain shouts. “What is it? Turn your screen around, show me!” Dew exclaims. Both of them take a second to look at the computer screen, comprehending this new place they had never heard of until now. “The aquarium. THE FUCKING AQUARIUM!” Dew is bouncing off the walls, barely able to keep his voice at a reasonable volume. “Did you see that they have a whole tank dedicated to sharks? You NEED to take him there. What do we have to do to plan a surprise date for you and Rainy?” Mountain cooed and looked in awe at the website. Both of them were doing extensive research on how to get tickets, they looked at what events were being hosted on specific days. Everything started to piece together. Dew couldn’t wait to show Rainy what he had planned for him. “Mounty, thank you so much for suggesting lunch today. Not just because you helped me plan this date. We need to do this regularly. It’s nice to escape and do normal things with you.” Dew and Mountain exchanged a soft smile.
They had surpassed well over 2 hours at lunch, Rain had texted Dew to see when he would be back. Mountain and Dew gather their things, and Dew makes his way over to the counter to order Rain his chocolate croissant because god forbid he forget it. Mountain gives Dew a slight side hug, and leaves to head back to the Ministry. Dew follows in his footsteps shortly after retrieving the baked goods.
Dew is exhausted by the time he makes it back to the Ministry halls. Walking slow paced, his legs are heavy. As he turns his curved shoulders around the corner, he can see Rain in the kitchen with Cirrus and they both have little beverages. Dew walks in and both of their eyes light up. “Look who decided to finally come back!” Cirrus huffs out, jokingly. Rain basically tackles Dew with a warm embrace and smothers him with his tall and slender body. “At least SOMEONE missed me”, Dew jabs back at Cirrus. They both chuckle and Dew grasps at his mate tighter than before. “It might not be warm anymore, but I got you your treat.” Rain eagerly takes the croissant from Dews palms and warms it up in the toaster oven. Cirrus gives them both a hug, and slowly starts leaving the kitchen. As Rain enthusiastically devours his croissant, Dew watches him intently. He ate it so quickly, you’d think the boy had been starved. Dew was never good at hiding his emotions on his face, and Rain clocked it right away. “You KNOW how I am about sweets, I can’t help it!” Rain says in a whiny high pitched tone. They both breathe out a snort and chuckle while he finishes his last bite. “Why don’t we go back to my room, test out my new fireplace and maybe watch a few Halloween movies? I was thinking…” Dew pauses for a second, and they both interject at the same time, “HOCUS POCUS.” In perfect unison. They both stand up, and in a hurried fashion they gather their things and sprint back to Dewdrops room. As soon as they get back to Dews room, he ignites his newly installed fireplace with his fire through his finger tips. He rarely gets to use his fire summoning, so he was ecstatic to be able to show Rain and was thanking Papa IV at the same time for the thoughtful addition. As they both change into their matching pajamas, they take small breaks to adore and admire each other. They both get tucked into Dew’s massive California King bed, snuggling up against each other and they pull up Hocus Pocus to watch. As they are watching the scene where the Sanderson Sisters are singing “I Put a Spell on You”, Dew leans over to Rain and whispers into his ear.. “I have a surprise waiting for us in the morning, well, mostly for you.” Rain turns his head and has glossy wide eyes, “What do you mean a surprise? Is this another one of those things where you bought us a new outfit that will undoubtedly embarrass me more than you?” It was a valid question. Dew loved to play harmless pranks on Rain, and Rain secretly enjoyed it more than he could admit. Dew chuckles and leans in to kiss his forehead, “No not this time, sweets. It’s something not even I could dream of experiencing. You’ll see.” They both let out a comfortable breath, Rain moves his shoulder to tuck tighter into Dewdrops side, he only does this when he’s ready to doze off. In the following moments, Dew can hear the soft puppy snores from Rainy and he turns the movie off. He moves the pillows and the blankets just the way they both like, he takes a moment to admire how soft and sweet his partner looks while sleeping. Dew presses a soft peck onto Rains forehead, and tucks himself deeper into the sheets before dozing off as well.
Waking with the dawn, they both stir as they hear the morning birds chirping. This is something both of them are very used to considering where their rooms reside. Rain is the first to start stirring with waking movements, Dews eyes open ever so slightly avoiding the light peeking in through the curtains. Rain turns over and lets out a rested sigh and both him and Dew lean in closer to share the waking moments together. Dew kisses Rain, and they take a moment to appreciate the softness of each other's lips. Smooth like silk, rose petal soft. Rains cheeks flush bright pink, Dews flush as well. They are completely and utterly infatuated with one another. Flipping to his side, where his phone was plugged in next to him on his night stand, Dew picks it up and checks the time. It’s almost 8AM and their experience starts at 9:30. “Rainy, we should start getting ready. It’s almost time for your surprise”, Dew says in a coaxing manner. He could sense Rains heart rate picking up quickly with excitement. “Can I please get a hint as to what we are doing?” Rain begs at Dew with a slight whine added to his voice. Dew had to find a way to respond without giving too much away. With a quick turn of his head while he is putting his flannel on over his shirt, Dewdrop finally responds, “Remember when you said you were feeling homesick? I think I might have found a little something to help that feeling go away. But that is ALL you get to know until we get there.” A sly smirk spreads across Dewdrops face as he can see Rain shift and turn with a wide smile. The air is still between them for a brief moment. Rain is quickly putting on his black jeans, a soft blue crew neck sweatshirt with a black beanie and black boots. Dew is also wearing his staple black jeans with a chain attached to the belt loops, a light cream colored waffle shirt, a black and red flannel, and some comfy skate style shoes to complete his look. “You look very handsome, per usual.” Rain says fluffing out the ends of his dark curls. Dew watches him meticulously separate and fix each blue black curl just the way he likes under his beanie. Dew smiles with adoration, “You look breathtaking, my love. Do you need anything before we go? I think it’s time we make our way down to our destination.” Rain fiddles with his hair for just a moment more, adjusts his belt ever so slightly and grabs his wallet off of the shelf. “I think I’m ready. Lets gooooo my body can’t wait another minute!” Rain exclaimed. If there was anything Rain loved more than Dewdrop, it was surprises from Dewdrop.
Leaving the room they shared, they linked their hands together and made their way out of the ministry hallways. As they near the exit, they both spot Mountain walking to what looks like the kitchen by the way he is carrying himself. Rain gives him a friendly wave, while Dewdrop looks up at him and gives him a small smirk and Mounty winks back down at him. They both carry on out the doors and make their way to their destination.
15 minutes of walking later, Dew is fiddling around with his bag and pulls out a solid black bandana. “Now what are you planning to do with that?” Rain asks in a flirtatious way, nudging Dews shoulder with his elbow. “Now THAT would be fun in public, wouldn’t it, darling?” Dew smirks back and chuckles. “Unfortunately, that is not part of our itinerary today. Put this on and trust me, please? It’s only for a moment.” Rain obliged, putting the blindfold on and holding Dews hand as they walked to the entrance. Dew pauses, takes in a few deep breaths before walking toward the door. “Are you ready?” Dew asks his partner, his voice is shaking. “I… I think so? Are you okay my love?” Rain can feel his hands shaking. “I’m okay, don't worry about me. Okay, I’m opening the door now. Just hold my hand, and when I say it’s okay you can take your blindfold off.” That came out more confident than he expected. As soon as those doors opened, they were both hit with a blast of cool air, and a slight smell of what was as close to an ocean breeze. Rains nose turned up at the slight scent, he was slowly analyzing his surroundings without being able to see. Dew had already snagged their entry tickets from the box office while Rain was occupied. Okay. Okay now it’s real. I hope he likes it. I hope this is as good as it looked online. I hope… Dewdrops inner dialog is starting to spiral out of control, until he feels Rains hand paw at his sleeve. “What is happening out here Dewy? You became so still, are you okay?” Rain asked, his voice is at a higher pitch this time. “I’m sorry babe, I got a little distracted by… all of this.” Dew reaches over to Rains face, hands less shaky than before and reaches behind his neck to take the blindfold off. It’s real now. Rain reaches his hands up to his eyes and slowly takes the fabric away. Dew is watching him with intense anticipation. Rains eyes light up with the most beautiful and innocent child-like glow. Dew can finally breathe again. Right past the entrance they are both greeted with a fresh water tank full of river fish and other animals. Rain can barely move. Finally, he opens his mouth to say, “You… you found this place? WHAT IS THIS OH MY GOD THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!” His hands start to tremble, Dew holds them tighter and brings his partner, his mate, closer to him to embrace him as he lets a few happy tears fall down his face. “Dewdrop, this is more than I could ever dream of.” Rain exclaimed with a shaky frail voice, tears flowing faster now. He also never used Dews full name unless he was deadly serious about something. Dew knew he had done the right thing for his lover. “I’m so happy to have brought you here, but don’t get too worked up yet. We have so much more to see my droplet. Are you ready? We can take as long as you want to stay here.” Dewdrop assured his mate. They both look at each other with a starry gaze. Rain wipes his face, and holds Dews hand as they walk through the halls together.
Just past the entrance, they both walk through and wander the vast freshwater exhibits. Rain has to stop and tell Dew about every fish, every plant, and every small micro organism that helps these ecosystems flourish even in a contained environment. Dew loved to listen to him ramble. He learned so much from him, like how Plecos can cohabitate with Koi fish, and how there's a type of frog called a Pig Frog (which thoroughly confused them both, but they moved on and laughed). As they continued through the exhibit, Rain perked his ears up and veered toward the sounds of distant squeaking. Dew furrowed his eyebrows, and followed Rain swiftly toward the sounds. Rain pauses in awe, his eyes are glimmering as he sees the small tan and brown creatures squeaking and splashing in and out of their little pools. Dewdrop gets a smug smirk on his face. Rain is now walking faster toward the enclosure, and presses his face against the glass in a childlike manner. We made it to the river otters, Dew thinks happily to himself. Rain brings his hands up to his face, still pressed against the glass of the otter enclosure. Dew had never seen Rain this excited, this enamored with a different life form. “Rain, how are you feeling my love?” Dewdrop asks with almost immediate reassurance. “Oh Dewy, they’re SOOOO cute. Look at their little noses and their tiny little feet! OH MY GOD!” Rain is squealing at this point. Dew stood back a few steps, admiring his partner who was admiring the otters. Rain catches Dews eyes tracking his movements. Rains eyes gleamed with adoration, and Dewdrop dropped his smile as soon as he noticed his mate watching him now. “Not so smug now are you, sweetness.” Rain digs into Dews' hardened exterior, he knows he has an undeniable soft spot. “Oh whatever, this isn’t about me is it?” Dew tries to retaliate, his nose scrunching as he holds back a smile. Rains shoulders shudder with his slight laughter as he turns back to face the otters who are now being fed little clams as treats. Both of their faces soften again as they soak in every little moment together.
As the minutes pass by, Dew takes Rains hand in his own signaling for them to move on so they can see the other exhibits. The hallways are dim, hardly any fluorescent lighting to mimic the animals natural habitats. There's a faint blue glow starting to show up on the floor, brighter as they approach the next tank. What could be described as a slight sea breeze scent started filling up the air. They both enter a room with lowered tanks that are not concealed (much like the otters and the river habitats). The floor is slightly wet, and that’s when they both realized where they’ve made it to. The touch tanks. Dew was particularly excited for this bit. Inside these touch tanks they had miniature horseshoe crabs, and Rain made sure Dew knew they were one of the oldest living crustaceans in existence (Spanning over 445 million years to be exact). He loved how much knowledge Rain had about these animals that most people don’t even think twice about. It made this experience even more interesting and meaningful.
After they got to pet the horseshoe crabs, they moved through a few other small touch tanks such as the chocolate chip starfish and some spikey sea urchins. In the center of the room, was the biggest tank taking up more than half of the space. Rain was drip drying his hands as they walked toward the large tank. Dew followed slowly behind, and he noticed his mates knees start to buckle ever so slightly in uncontainable joy. Dew rushes up behind him, grabbing his shoulders and leaning around him to see his face. “Droplet is everything okay?” Dew says with a slight chuckle to his question. “Dewdrop, they are the cutest animals I have ever seen. I- I have only ever read about them.” Rain stutters slightly, regaining the strength to stand up fully. Dew has a slightly inquisitive look on his face, and he looks at the tank closer. Finally noticing the flat animal Rain had clocked instantaneously. “Oh Rainy, come over here! There’s so much more to look at!” Dew was just as excited once he saw the cownose ray swimming along the edges of the tank. As soon as Rain approached the tank, he saw more of the rays swimming up to the edge - they were drawn to the water ghoul. Both of the ghouls stuck their hands in the tank, making sure to only brush against the wings of the rays with 2 fingers. Dew looked at Rain, and Rain looked back - both of their faces were lit up with joy as they got to play with the sea creatures. Within the tank, there were also a few small epaulette sharks swimming around ever so curiously. Rain loved the way they moved so smoothly in the water. Dew always thought Rain was very shark like in his unglamoured form. His skin was a lighter blueish gray, with similar markings to a whale shark on his shoulders, thighs and across his central back. He was fascinating to look at, all the time. Dew is going in and out of a daydream state thinking about his partner, vision blurring ever so slightly. Rain walks toward him, his hands no longer wet. Dew snaps out of his slight daze, watching his partner’s stature sway toward him. No one else is in the room with them at this point, Rain wraps his arms around Dews neck. “So my little firefly.” Oh how Dew loved being called that sweet little nickname. “Where to next?” Rains arms are still wrapped around his partner's neck. Dew looks up at his eyes, down at his lips, and back up to his eyes again. Slightly biting his lip in between glances. Dew reaches up to kiss Rain before answering, holding them there in that shared embrace. Pulling away from the kiss, Dewdrop presses his forehead against Rains accidentally knocking their horns together. “My sweet boy, we have so much to see. I heard they have a really nice shark tank that we can walk through.” Rain pulls away with widened eyes. “What? Like, it’s an immersive experience? WHY ARE WE STILL STANDING HERE THEN?” Rain grabs Dew by the wrist and drags him out the exit into another darkened hallway. Dew takes a moment to let his feet catch up to Rains quickened pace, and by the time he marches in step with his lover, he can see the curved edges of what looks like a clear blue tunnel.
Rain speeds up his already accelerated walk, and almost leaves Dewdrop behind. He can barely contain himself at this point. Rain walks into the tunnel of the shark tank, looking in every single direction baffled beyond words. It looked like they were on a movie set, Dew gasped because he was blown away by the unfamiliar beauty of it all. There were some built in benches within the tunnel, so they both took a seat to watch and admire all of the different species of sharks swimming overhead. Rain's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates as he watched two hammerhead sharks swim directly above his head from where the curvature of the tunnel met the bench. Dewdrop was focused on the cluster of black tip sharks that kept circling towards the top of the tank, probably indicating that it was feeding time. They both were fascinated with watching a few different schools of smaller fish, as if they were dancing around in the water. Letting his mate soak in the last few seconds of the fascinating creatures of the deep, Dew decides to stand up first and take Rain by the hand to drag him along to the final exhibit. He has been waiting patiently to show him this one from the moment they stepped foot into the building
Rain furrows his brow, he notices Dews demeanor shifting ever so slightly. His posture is stiffened, hands slightly clammy from being nervous, he even had a slight stutter to his step. “Rainy babe, I have had nothing short of an amazing time with you today. I love seeing your eyes light up when you see something that peaks your interest. I could watch you all day.” Dewdrop says walking in front of Rain, leading him by the hand. Rain squeezes his hand in agreement. “I have one last thing that I wanted to make sure you saw. I made sure it was ready by the time we came here.” Dewdrop pulls Rain by the hand a little harder so he ends up walking in time with his love. They walk into a smaller room, the entrance is lined with black lights. As they walk forward, Rain notices the room is not shaped like any of the others within the aquarium. The wall is blacked out, and instead of having a large acrylic window where you can see the whole enclosure - there were a few circular window type structures spread across instead. The lowest window had a small colony of cleaner shrimp, all huddled on a few different aquatic plants. The black light makes their orange shells glow bright and vibrantly. The next window they see is slightly higher with a few yellow seahorses tangled within the sea grasses. “Oh Dew look how tiny they are!” Rain cooed at the sight of them. “They’re small and cute like you!” Rain elbowed Dews side teasingly, knowing that would get a rise out of him. “Oh shut up, you big sap! I’m not that small.” Dew jabs back. “Besides you’re missing the best part, come over here.” Rain stands up a little taller and walks his way over to where Dew was now standing. A bigger window pane was now in sight, and pancake size specimens were coming into full view. The glow was getting brighter as they both approached the side of the tank. Dew turns to face Rain. “I wanted to make sure this exhibit was done before you got to experience it with me. And I know how much you love these little guys so I saved the best for last.” Dews cheeks are burning, Rain can feel the heat radiating off of him. “They’re moon jellyfish.” Dew says. Rain is on the brink of tears as he’s watching them float around their tank. Slowly seeing them shift with the current circulating, he faces Dew. “Dewy, my sweet firefly, this is everything I could have dreamed of. How do I ever say thank you for this?” Rain leans in closer, grabbing his partner's face with both hands and pressing his mouth to Dews. They kiss, taking small breaths in between, soaking each other in with every shared movement they make. Dew reaches his hand up to his face, lacing his fingers around Rains massive hand taking up the entire left side of his jaw. He brings his hand in between their mouths and presses a warm kiss to the top of his knuckles. “My droplet, I would do anything in the world for you. This is barely scratching the surface of what I would do for you. I knew you were feeling home sick. You needed a peace of home to be brought to you. I did my best, but I can’t take all of the credit for this one.” Dew looks down at his feet, his eyes slowly tracking up Rains lengthy figure. “What? What do you mean you can’t take the credit?” Rain laughs off the question. “You know that lunch I went to the other day with Mountain? I may have asked him for a favor. He’s the one who found the aquari-something or other.” Dewdrop laughs at himself. Rain chuckles as well, finding Drew dry humor amusing. “He’s your best friend, I felt like I needed a few pointers!” They both bring each other in for a tight embrace, Rains breathing is shaky. Dew knows his mate better than anyone else, and he holds him tighter. Nothing else mattered in that moment except for them. Rain shifts slightly because he can hear distant footsteps of a crew of people coming into the exhibit. He wipes his face of the tears that slipped down his light blue cheeks. Dew brings a palm up to Rains jaw right below his ear, thumbing his warm skin softly. “Should we make our way out of here, my darling?” Dew asks, making sure they didn’t want to revisit anything. Rain replies with a slight huff, “I think I’m good for today, let’s get out of here. Thank you. For everything.” Rains hand finds Dews, their fingers interlock and they head toward the exit of the room.
As they make their way toward the exit of the building, they notice a gift shop with a bunch of over priced trinkets scattered in every corner, on every shelf, so obviously they had to stop in and take a LONG gander. One of the first things they see as they walk into the shop is a rotating kiosk with a bunch of ocean themed necklaces, Dew takes a minute to turn the display case a few times and stops on the section with the shark tooth necklaces. He looks at them for a long while, and lands on a tooth that catches his eye. He ponders at it for a long while, but shockingly puts it back on the shelf. Rain was just off to the side looking at the silly mood changing pendants, they came in so many different shapes. One was a turtle, another was a penguin. But he noticed Dew had put the shark tooth back, and while Dew was preoccupied with the other display case full of cheaply made sunglasses, Rain reached over and sneakily pocketed the necklace for later. They lazily skimmed through the more meaningless trinkets placed around. But then, in almost perfect unison, they spot the tower of stuffed animals in the front center of the shop and run to admire the plushies on display. “Dew LOOK at this adorable otter! We need to get on immediately! Oh! Oh my goodness look at the fuzzy hammerhead shark, that doesn’t even make sense but I LOVE IT!” Rain is inconsolable over these plushies. “Rain, the clownfish plushie is ADORABLE. I mean, c’mon! They made it have puffy cartoon cheeks!” Dew says while he’s squishing the face like you would squish a child’s cheeks. After a few more moments of picking through the massive mountain of sea themed plushies, Rain settles on the otter and Dew, who can’t seem to pick just one, takes home the clownfish and the hammerhead shark. They make their way out of the building and start their 20 minute walk home. The air is brisk, the sun is high, Dewdrop raises his face to the sky to soak in the warm rays on the high points of his face.
Slowly but surely, they make it back to the Ministry. Just in time for a later lunch, around 2:30 Pm. They walk in with their little souvenirs hand, and they see Cumulus, Phantom and Swiss in the hallway right outside the kitchen. They’re all greeted with a hug and a couple of kisses on the cheeks. After they make small talk with everyone, the lot of them make their way into the kitchen where fajitas and chips and salsa are being prepared. Swiss was in charge of the meal today, and he never disappoints with his cooking. Dew puts his plushies down on the counter next to where he is sat, Rain follows suit. They dish up their food and dig in. All of the ghouls and ghoulettes are sitting, chatting, and eating for about 30 minutes before people start to finish up. Plates are scraped and loaded into the dishwasher, left overs are stored away for another time. Mountain had mentioned coming back for seconds, so those left overs won’t last long at all. Rain and Dew gather their things and say their ‘see you laters’ to everyone. “Should we go back to mine or yours?” Dewdrop asked inquisitively about who’s room they should stay in. “I think we should go to mine. I have something I want to show you when we get there.” Dew looks at Rain, puzzled. “Oh come on! Don’t give me that look. It’s just a little something waiting for you.” Surprises always made Dew incredibly curious. Rain wasn’t very good at keeping secrets either, if they didn’t get to his room in the next 2 seconds he would explode with what he had been wanting to show his partner. They make their way back, Rain opens the door quickly and they both file into his quarters in a swift manner. Putting his plushies on his bed, Rain rushed over to Dew. He grabs him by the shoulders and basically shoves him down onto the bed into a sitting position. Rain is eager to show him something. His body is practically vibrating with excitement.“Okay darling, settle down before you pop a blood vessel or something. What do you need to show me?” Dewdrop laughs. Rain fiddles with a few items in his pocket. He finds the end of the strings and pulls out the shark tooth necklace that Dew had been eyeballing back in the gift shop. Dews' expression softens, his eyes glimmering with adoration. “I saw you looking at this back in the little gift shop and I was shocked that you put it back. So I took the liberty of getting it for you. And it’s a leopard shark tooth, one of my favorite species.” Rain takes Dews hand and places the necklace in his palm. Dew looks at his mate, mist starting to fill his eyes and his face heating up on the apples of his cheeks. “Thank you, my darling droplet. This is so thoughtful of you. I… I don’t have words.” His voice begins to shake. “I wanted to get it for you, especially after everything you did for me today. You deserve niceness, and I will always be here to give it to you. My firefly.” Rain leans in, brushing his nose against Dewdrops. They press their mouths together, hands reaching to grab each other's faces. Finding a moment to come up for air, they both pause with their bodies held close together. Rain looks at his partner, Dew does the same. They take each other in like it’s the first time they had ever seen each other. Rain pulls away first, leaving a lingering hand on Dews thigh. Clearing his throat, Rain opens his mouth to speak, “What if we turn in for the night, and we can watch that one show we never finished. Criminal…. something or other. What’s it called again?” Rain is puzzled. “Criminal Minds?” Dew says back in a gruff and scratchy voice. “THAT’S THE ONE. I think we should revisit it. That Hotchner character is hot, too.” Rain says with a sly smirk. Dewdrop leans back on the bed, rolling his eyes and pushing out a short breath of laughter. “I knew there was a reason you wanted to watch it again. All he is to you is eye candy.” Dew says jokingly. Rain is already undressing, and getting situated in his fluffy pajama pants, no shirt on. Dew follows suit, climbing into the covers of Rains bed. He immediately sinks into a comfortable position, nuzzling into Rains side. It wasn’t hard to do since his bed was basically a cloud. They flip the TV on and switch it to Criminal Minds. Rain sits up from being cuddling into Dew, “Hey, I love you. Thank you for everything today.” Dew sits up and kisses Rains forehead, “I love you more than words can say, my darling. Anything for you, anything you want.” They kiss once more before tucking back into their spots. Their eyes linger on one another. This is the love you want to grow old with. The love you only experience once in a lifetime. It was just them, existing amongst each other. Always.
