In the car ride home, the atmosphere is very damp, or that how Nicole describe the situation. The warn blanket that she feels when she is with Jennifer Charles muddied by the battle with the unicorns.
JC stares quietly out the window, occasionally stealing glances and her face and then looks at her arm, reminding them of what happened.
“I’m bad in these situations, but I can tell it’s still bothering you.” Nicole says in her flat voice, trying to sound as caring as she can. “JC don’t be upset with Bob, I agreed to be bait. None of us could have foreseen that happening.”
Jennifer Charles mutters. “I mean with the her being the lavender princess fae sorceress, you would think she would have had some foresight-“
“JC!?” Nicole says firmly, cutting them off.
Them car is quiet after that. Both of them wanting to pick their words carefully. After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence JC breaks it with a sigh.
“Nicole, can you pull over please?” They look over to them, voice trying to sound of stoic as it can.
“What do you mean?”
“Please? Can you for a second?”
Nicole drives to the side of the street, the sidewalks empty with everyone still inside as the corps dealt with gathering up the corpses and any other escapees.
JC turned to Nicole, teary eyed and face flushed.
“Can I grab your hand?” They chuckled awkwardly, Nicole places her hand in theirs.
“Seeing you hurt like that affected me more than I expected. I just remember you falling off the car and you screaming. My brain scrambled for what you do and for a second I just stood there. Seeing you in that situation made me realize a lot.” Their eyes begin to water.
“JC?”
“I…I love you, and I care about you. So please, take care of yourself. For my sake at least.” They chuckle as they.
“I..” For the first time in the while, Nicole was lost for words. She didn’t know what to say as Jennifer Charles cried. She didn’t know what to do and just did whatever her mind forced, leaning over and grasping JC in a hug. “I love you too.”
For a while they sat there, hugging and loving each other, content in each other company.
