Chapter Text

"You sure you don't want me to stay for the rest of the night?"

Party Poison rolled over in their bed, glancing up through their half closed eyes at Nix who had stalled halfway dressed, his pants on but unzipped, t-shirt slung over his shoulder. His chestnut brown hair was a mess but he didn't seem to notice, or care.

"I'd hate to think you'll be lonely all ni-"

"I'll be fine thanks", Poison cut in, rolling to face away from him. The bed creaked under them as they turned to lie on their stomach, sighing in comfort.

Nix let out a small cough, going back to getting dressed.

"Well okay then", he said, his voice ripe with disappointment, "sleep well I guess, maybe I'll see you same time next week?"

Poison chuckled. "Goodbye Nix".

They heard Nix sigh as he walked out the door, still not even fully dressed but clearly not thinking too much about it. Poison rolled onto their back and stared up at the ceiling, their body still woozy from the night. When they finally heard the front door of the diner close, Poison ripped off their bright yellow mask and lay it on the table beside their bed. Every single time they had sex, Nix would ask to stay the night, and every single time Poison had the same answer. I mean, they had to admire his perseverance, Poison thought to themself. They'd never met anyone quite as determined as him. Funny how he thought that one night maybe, just maybe, Poison would change their mind. Maybe one night they would reach out to him, begging for him to stay, like some poor lonely soul aching for the comfort of another. Poison chuckled to themself again.

Not long after Nix had left, Poison heard the diner's door open again and a few people stumble in, laughing cheerily, their unsteady footsteps allowing Poison to assume they had maybe had a little something to drink that night. They didn't worry though, they knew the sound of their brother's cheery voice from anywhere, a little hoarse after a long night of partying in Zone 5. Of course, Zone 5 was famous for its parties, attracting people from every zone with its promise of a most memorable night, although some would wake up to find quite the opposite of that. It had all the best booze and all the strongest narcotics. Where they got them from, Poison was yet to figure out, but it didn't stop them from occasionally indulging in both.

Poison had been there that night, in Zone 5 with Jet and Kobra, but had decided to leave earlier with Nix. A routine of almost every Saturday night.

Poison's thoughts were interrupted by a small voice coming from outside their room, either hushed because of how late it was, or maybe just from partying a little too hard. Perhaps a bit of both.

"We're back Poison", they heard Kobra call out quietly, "is Nix still there?"

Poison lifted their head slightly of their pillow, staring out in front of them.

"No", Poison called back, "no he's gone back home".

"Oh cool cool"

The sound of footsteps and Poison heard Kobra and Jet muttering quietly to each other, then opening the presses in the main room and the rattle and crash of cans falling to the floor. Jet swore loudly and Kobra started to giggle, followed by the sound of what was probably Kobra being shoved by Jet, who obviously didn't enjoy his teasing. Poison kept listening until they heard the sound of someone walking to stand right outside their door.

"Okay, well goodnight Poison", they heard Kobra whisper from outside their room.

Poison smirked from inside their room, lying their head back onto their pillow.

"Goodnight Kid".

Knowing their brother was home safe, Poison began to allow themself to begin to drift off, their heavy eyelids starting to shut as a wave of severe tiredness washed over them, sending them into a deep and well needed sleep.
