Chapter Text
Peter Benjamin Parker, aka The Amazing Spider-Man was enjoying the free time he was spending swinging through the city with a calm serenity that was a rarity in his rather unpredictable and crazy world.
He was a little downbeat due to his and Mary Janes 'temporary' separation. It wasn't an unusual occurrence that they would have some disagreement that resulted in them breaking up for a while before they would come together again and rectify their problems.
This time was just like any other, his activities as Spider-Man were putting a dampener on the relationship, and he agreed wholeheartedly. But he can't just abandon his responsibility as Spider-Man and she knew that as well, they just needed... to find a good balance.
He was optimistic that they would resolve their issues and get beck together again soon but they both needed the time to cool their heads. So here he was, web swinging without a care in the world as life passed him by.
Thankfully there hadn't been anything major as of late to really get his attention, no escaped supervillains, no bank robberies, no catastrophic event that needed him and every superhero on the planet to unite and fight against.
That wasn't to say he wasn't busy with smaller tasks that he often found himself doing, and if he were being honest he enjoyed these more than stopping any supervillain. He stopped a few muggings with ease, helped some old lady cross the street, got a few cats out of trees as well as a few footballs and even a kite at one point. All the while he was thanked profusely for a job well done by those he'd helped.
'Man, todays been an unusually great day for me.' He thought curiously.
'Just means that something bad's coming round the corner.' He thought not so optimistically.
He kept swinging for a few more minutes before coming to a stop on the side of a building to catch a breathe.
Suddenly a large flash of light erupted in the sky slightly blinding him causing him to shield his eyes. When the light lessened a bit he uncovered his eyes to look up and saw suspended in the sky a large blue circular portal.
"What the hell is that?" He yelled to himself.
The swirling portal seemed to pulse slightly but did not change in any significant way, as far as he could tell at least, the swirling gradually became more rapid and from the centre of the portal Peter could vaguely see something dark falling through it.
'Is... is that a person?' He questioned worryingly.
Immediately taking action he took off on his webs towards the centre of the portal hoping to intercept whatever was falling out of it. If it was a person he needed to act quickly and make sure they didn't hit the ground.
'Cmon gotta go faster.' He chastised himself.
As he got closer he could see the figure more clearly and to his fear it was indeed a person and by the looks of it they weren't trying to stop themselves, they weren't moving at all, instead falling directly away from the portal.
Peter neared the portal and the unknown figure had just passed the tallest building in the area, time was running out and he still needed to get close enough and make sure to break the fall of the person without causing them any harm.
A horrible memory flashed through his mind of a very similar situation and the result was horrifying. He was determined not to make the same mistake here, instead of using a single web line in the hopes of catching them mid-fall, Peter would launch a spray of webs connecting to several buildings so that they would construct a giant spider web.
'I won't let that happen again.' He thought determined.
Peter slingshotted himself forward gaining tremendous speed and he had reached the bottom of the portal, he quickly set to work sending web after web to the surrounding area and connecting them in the middle, he sent more webs out enlarging and strengthening the giant web to ensure that the person would survive once they landed in it.
The falling figure approached rapidly and they collided with the giant web, the web stretched down as the momentum was slowed down, the resulting web sprung them back up and slowly settled as it rested in place once more with the figured secured on the web.
Peter approached the seemingly unconscious person and was surprised to see a familiar looking costume. By the looks of it this person was wearing a similar looking costume to his own except the colour scheme was slightly altered, in fact it more resembled his brother Ben Reillys Scarlet Spider suit.
It was red and blue just like his own. The bottom part was entirely blue with the chest being all red with a large black spider symbol, the wrists were also blue with the silver bracelet web shooters resting against their palms.
'Is that... Bens suit? After he ditched the red jumpsuit and blue jumper.' He thought curiously as he examined the suit more carefully.
However he knew that this wasn't Ben. First and foremost... Ben was dead. After he had become the new Jackal his body had become unstable and he decayed just like the other clones that he and Miles Warren, the original Jackal, had created before.
The second was that the figure was unmistakably female, they had a smaller frame than he or Ben, who was basically identical to him.
He had no idea who this person was as all the other spider women had costumes that looked nothing like this one. Anya had a primarily black suit with a white spider symbol, Jessica had a mainly red costume with some yellow accents.
Cindy hand made her own costume which was unlike anything he had seen before, on account that she could just spin organic webs from her finger tips and make a web suit if necessary.
Julia didn't wear a spider suit anymore after she became the new Madame Web, Miles had a similar costume to his except it was black with a red webbing pattern on it and Gwen had a black and white suit with a hood and pink accents.
"Who are you?" He asked himself as the person was unresponsive, and judging by the masks eye lenses, they were unconscious.
Peter bent down slightly and took hold of the mask, he usually respected the whole secret identity thing, but given everything that's just happened and what he currently knows, his curiosity had gotten the better of him and wanted to see who was under the mask.
He found the divide from the neck of the costume and the bottom of her mask and went to pull it up, but found it unmoving. Peter didn't give much effort after that knowing that this person had stuck their mask to their face. Just like he has done in the past to ensure no one peeked under while he was unconscious,
"Well... if you know how to do that then your no a rookie. You've been doing this for a while." He surmised, as he only thought of using his adhesive powers to keep his mask a-fixed to his face some time after he started being Spider-Man.
Peter looked up at the sky to the swirling blue portal above, the swirling had slowed considerably sense she had fallen out of it and it seemed to be shrinking. Whatever that portal was it was going away now, but whoever this person was was not able to get back through.
'Hmm.' He grumbled. "Seems like you're my problem now?" He said looking back down at the unconscious person.
He slowly removed her from the webbing and gently picked her up. He threw her arm over his shoulder and he held her close to his body, "I should get you to the Avengers, they will know what to do." He said to himself as he shot off a web to start swinging to the famed Avengers tower.
Peter started swinging away, making sure that the person he was holding didn't slip out of his grasp all the while something was nagging him at the back of his mind. 'I don't know what it is... but you... seem familiar.' He thought.
From atop a nearby building someone was looking down at the giant web that Peter left behind as a result of catching who fell out of the portal.
"Hmm. Interesting." The person said mysteriously as their platinum blonde hair blew in the coming breeze.
At Avengers Tower
The Avengers were minding their business as they meandered around the tower. Natasha was training as usual, Tony and Bruce were in the lad discussing whatever scientific marvel that came to mind, Carol, Jessica, Jennifer and Janet engaged in small talk and Steve remained vigil as ever, ready to jump into action at a moments notice.
They were all startled when they were notified of a large special disturbance within the city skyline.
"ALERT. Unknown special phenomenon has appeared in the city." The alarm system blared throughout the tower.
Natasha rushed from the training halls to meet up with the rest of the team that were lounging in the main floor, Tony and Bruce set to work on analysing what the special disturbance was and what effect it was having in the city, while everyone else in the main floor gathered at the larger windows and faces out into the city as they saw a large blue portal appear over the city.
"Steve... what the hell is that?" Asked Jessica.
"No idea. Carol, any ideas?" The star spangled man said addressing Carol who has been through the cosmos many times.
"Sorry Cap, never seen anything like it before." Carol said.
As they all gazed out at the portal and began to formulate some kind of response as they had no idea what they were dealing with unless Tony and Bruce were able to figure it out, the portal had dispersed and vanished leaving the city untouched.
"Well... that was weird." Said Jennifer.
"You can say that again Jen." Commented Janet.
At that time Natasha barged into the room demanding to know what the threat was. "What's happening?" She questioned immediately seeing the group standing by the window.
"We're not sure Nat. But whatever it was, it's gone now." Steve said as he turned to her.
"In the meantime, stay alert in case of a re-emergence. We can't be sure this thing won't come back. I'm gonna talk to Tony, see what he and Bruce can make of all of this." Steve ordered as he began to leave in the direction of the lab.
"We're coming too." Carol said.
"Yea. Best we all be there to get our bearings on the situation, we wouldn't want to act without all the information we can get." Natasha added.
"Alright. Let's go." Steve agreed as he and the rest made their way to Starks lab.
"Bruce, have you got anything for me?" Tony asked the man.
"Not a thing. Whatever this special phenomenon was it's nothing I've ever seen before." Bruce said bewildered as he continued running analysis on the disturbance.
"Nothing? Nothing at all?" Tony said in disbelief.
"Sorry Tony but I think we're a little out of our depth here on this one. Should we contact Reed and the Fantastic Four for some help?" Bruce suggested.
"Possibly. Keep trying, if we don't get anywhere then we'll make the call." Tony said depressingly as he pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
"Tony!" Came the voice of Steve who had entered leading the group.
"Any news about our strange disturbance?" He inquired to the two scientists.
"Sorry Steve. Nothing. Nada. Zilch." Said a slightly irate Tony.
"Bruce? Anything?" Steve asked the levelheaded side to the angry rampaging Hulk.
"Sorry Cap. But our analysis so far hasn't come up with anything." Bruce said apologetically.
"It's alright Bruce. Any ideas on what we should do next?" He asked the men.
"We're thinking of contacting Richards, see what he can gather." Bruce answered.
"Cap... what's the situation look like outside?" Tony asked wondering what damages or affect the disturbance had on the city.
"Well... sense we're not sure what that thing was we can't be certain. But from what we saw it only appeared for a few moments before disappearing. So far we haven't seen anything that seems out of place." He explained what they saw outside.
On cue they were once again notified by the alarm system of another alert. "ALERT. Spider-Man has entered the tower with an unknown figure. He seems to be looking for you."
"Spider-Man? What's he doing here?" Jennifer said slightly confused and annoyed as the wall crawlers presence.
"What's more pressing is the unknown person he's with, this system can identify anyone who enters the tower." Tony said bewildered.
"Then let's go see who our unexpected guest is shall we." Steve said as he made his way back to the main floor.
Peter had managed to get inside the tower with his unconscious partner in tow, but there was no one there when he got in. 'Strange? No one's around. Usually there's someone here.' He thought looking round the room.
"Spider-Man?" Steve called out entering the room.
"Cap. There you guys are, I need your help." He said relieved to see them.
"Spider-Man... who's that?" Jessica asked pointing to the person he was carrying.
"I... I don't know, but she fell out of that portal thing in the sky." He announced to their surprise.
"She-she came out of that thing?" Bruce said shocked.
"Portal, and yes. She was falling and I caught her but she's unconscious so I need you guys to examine her." He said.
"Well who is she? She looks like she's wearing one of your suits?" Tony asked suspiciously.
"That's what I'd like to know to. I only saw the costume after I'd saved her." Peter said agreeing with Tony's inquiry.
"Okay, this way." Bruce said stepping out in front of them.
"Thanks Bruce." Peter said as the man assisted him in carrying the woman to the infirmary.
Peter and Bruce quickly brought the unconscious woman to the infirmary and laid her down on one of the medical beds.
"Have you tried taking her mask off?" Bruce asked as he got some imaging equipment ready for her examination.
"Yea. It's stuck to her face." He said honestly. "And if I'm being honest I don't want to forcibly remove it." He said barely above a whisper.
"I understand. I know how you feel about secret identities." Bruce said lowly.
Peter took a step back as Bruce began to operate the machine, the large device passed over her and a blue glow covered her entire body as it did so. A few moments later an image appeared on the monitor showing the vitals and scans of the woman.
"So... what's it look like Banner?" Asked Steve who had his arms folded.
"From what I can see it looks like she has some fatigue, there doesn't appear to be any other injuries internal or external. Brain function is normal so the best guess I have is that she went through that... portal... exhausted and fell unconscious along the way. All we can do now is wait for her to regain consciousness or if her condition changes." Bruce informed them as he examined the information on the screen.
"Fine. But I don't want her left alone, so if you wouldn't mind I would like you to stay here and monitor her." Steve requested of the man.
"Sure thing Cap." Bruce agreed.
"Spider-Man... if you wouldn't mind sticking around either that would be appreciated?" He asked of Peter.
"I guess I can stick around, but if something goes down in the city I'll be leaving immediately." He agrees under his circumstances.
"Understood son." Steve said accepting his terms.
They all left the room leaving Bruce behind to keep watch in case anything changed or if she wakens. What they didn't notice was that her hand was twitching slightly for a couple seconds before falling limp again by her side.
"So... can you tell us what happened out there?" Steve addressed Spider-Man.
"Not sure there's much to tell. I was swinging through the city when there was a huge flash of light, when I opened my eyes that portal was just there. A few seconds later I see her fall out and I rushed to save her, then it disappeared and I headed here." He explained what happened when the portal appeared.
"I see." Cap said quizzically.
"Well... as it stands the only person who could provide any explanation to what happened is in the infirmary unconscious. That is unless we contact Reed and the Fantastic Four for help." Cap said analysing the situation at hand.
"Reed? I think he's investigating something in the negative zone. He's not there." Spider-Man said, he is particularly close to the Fantastic family and he remembers talking with Johnny a while ago where he said Reed was heading to the negative zone for something. Johnny obviously not being the most intelligent member of the group didn't completely understand what Reed was doing.
"Really? Hmm, that's unfortunate. Then the only person who could shed any light on the situation is unconscious." Steve concluded.
"Seems to be." Agreed Tony who was generally displeased with the current situation.
"Have you ever seen her before spidey?" Asked Jennifer.
"No, can't say that I have. Why?" He answered.
"Well... she's dressed similarly to you. I thought maybe you would've known who she was." Jennifer explained.
"Sorry, I don't know anyone who has a costume like that. What about you Jess?" Peter asked curiously.
"Nope. Never seen her before. But Jen does have a point, her costume is very similar to your own. Maybe she's just a fan who made a costume that looked like yours." Jessica surmised.
"Maybe. But until she wakes up we won't know for sure." Steve interjected.
"You're right Steve." Janet agreed.
Suddenly there was a loud crash and clang of metallic instruments from behind them.
"The infirmary!" Steve announced as he charges back with everyone following.
They barged in to the medical room where they saw Bruce trying to calm the woman down who was clearly agitated and in a combative stance. "Please, try and calm down." Bruce pleaded.
"Bruce! You alright?" Asked Cap gaining the attention of both occupants.
"Fine Cap. She woke up suddenly and started acting out." He explained what had just happened.
The woman turned to look at the group and she immediately recognised the group, and the star spangled man addressing the only other occupant in the room besides her made her realise who he was.
"The Avengers?" She said confused.
Her eyes fell upon a familiar red and blue spandex wearing hero, the lenses of her mask widened to their limit which was something that everyone present noticed and where curious about. She immediately relaxed her stance as she then stood up straight which put them at ease slightly.
"D-Dad?" She said in disbelief.
"Dad?" Said the female Avengers present, while the male Avengers looked at the web-head curiously.
Peter stood there shocked, his mind was simultaneously drawing a blank and running a million miles a minute. Did she really just turn to him and call him... dad?
"Oh man." He said exhaustedly.
