Chapter Text
PROLOGUE
“Just one more chapter, and I’m done for the test… and the final paper probably” I whispered to myself.
Spending my Saturday night at the Beacon library wasn’t exactly planned, the whole idea of going for pool fell through when my teammates decided to get drunk and caught by Ms. Goodwitch. Pretty much too bored to do anything else but study.
*Yawning* I put away the last book in my bag and peaked at my scroll.
“11:38 huh, might as well get going then, I’ll finish it in the morning.” I murmured to myself.
Packing my things away, I got up to leave and was on my way out of the library, walls of shelves waltzed past as I made my way through the maze of the place. Remembering the times I spent trying to keep my team awake while I made sure they passed their mid terms.
As the doors slowly appeared at the end of the hallway, I walked right up to the door and pulled. But nothing happened.
“Hmm… that’s odd.” I whispered.
Tugging on the handle again and hoping to see an ounce of movement, was met with despair as the door didn’t budge.
“Welp … anyone I could call is probably spending time out of beacon for the weekend and my team’s just not reachable.”
As I kept thinking for more ideas on what I could do, I noticed a small echo spread through the empty library. Looking in the direction of the disturbance, I walked slowly back to the space where the noise came from.
Creeping along the shadows, I activated my semblance, static awareness. Letting my semblance cloak the area ahead of me, I could sense that another soul was just up ahead.
Walking slowly, so as to not startle them, I turned slowly around the last book shelf.
In front me, surrounded by a castle of books and reference material … was Weiss. Well she looked like Weiss … close enough. The one in front of me looked like she hadn’t had an ounce of sleep for a while and was resting her head on her fore arms and sleeping on the 4th edition of Grimm mating cycles.
I chuckled a little at that and slowly approached her sleeping form.
“Hey Weiss, it’s a little late for studying dontcha think?” I spoke softly.
Her eyes staggered awake and looked at me sloppily. I noticed the thin line of drool slipping from her mouth and the burning red eyes, screaming with the exhaustion she was feeling. In no short words she looked like she was going through a lot.
“Whoa, easy there. You okay?” I held my hands in front of myself trying to appease any danger she felt from a stranger approaching her.
“Ugh … no … I must have fallen asleep.” She spoke, leaning her head forward into her palms and rubbing her eyes.
I thought of an idea and put my back down near her desk and rummaged through it and found a can of Stargrimms I kept on person for a caffeine hit whenever I required.
“Here, take this. You need it more than I do.” I said, putting the can of coffee right in front of her face.
She looked at me and then at the can of coffee and just nodded once and said Thanks. Opening it, she took a long swig of the drink and put it down slowly with a sigh.
“Thank you.” She said while looking at me, taking a seat across her table.
“No probs, don’t want to load you with more problems, but we’re kind of locked in here for a while.”
“What?!” she turned around and looked at her scroll and came to the same realization I had a few minutes ago “Its that late?!”
“You must have fallen asleep while studying” I said while taking out a can for myself and taking a swig of caffeine for myself “Just like I did”.
She looked down and looked at her scroll, going completely quiet.
“Hey, I don’t what you’re going through, but we’re stuck here for a while. Wanna talk about it?”
She slowly looked up and blinked twice in quick succession and said, “You’re <Reader> right? From team RIOT?”
“The one and the same, I answered.” Feeling a little happy that she remembered who I was.
She took one more swing of the coffee and just started talking about everything that was on her mind.
I took another swing of my can and leaned in to listen.
------------------------------------------------ FOUR MONTHS LATER ------------------------------------------------
A lot of things happened, with helping find Weiss’s teammate Blake, trying to stop the criminal mastermind Torchwick and training for the upcoming Vytal festival led to us becoming a lot closer.
I had planned for us to be good friends, trusted comrades and kindred spirits. Working hard to build the best for ourselves with the cards we were dealt, for Weiss her legacy and for me my family.
I’d trained myself to get a lot stronger and did my best to remain true to what I believed and excelling at the tests and exams we were given. Four years of college would be easy-peasy with nothing to complicate things and with my new best friend, we should have been unstoppable.
Well things mostly went as planned, until the dance where Weiss tiptoed and kissed me on the lips and confessed her feelings for me. To which I responded in kind and accepted.
And while I did intend to take things nice and slow, to enjoy our time together. What I had failed to consider, was that a perennially repressed teenage girl with a somewhat honorable boy trying to be a good friend would break down the dam she’d built up around her heart and brought forth an array of desires that she’d suppressed.
Because Weiss f—king Schnee.
