Work Text:

Shepard watched Anderson flicking his wrist while reading the morning paper, knowing printed newspapers were big among vintage Earth collectors.

The smell of the ink gave her a headache; Shepard hated when Anderson read them in the mess.

“You know, Captain,” Shepard said, “the data pads carry the same news and have more up-to-date information.”

Anderson peered over his paper, staring down his XO. “Shepard, have I ever told you about twenty-first-century Earth and the twenty-four-hour news cycle.”

Shepard groaned and regretted opening her mouth as she now had to sit through one of Anderson’s famous old Earth History lessons.
