Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The man slowly opened his eyes as blurry splotches quickly filled his vision, he closed them instantaneously as a following pang of pain overcame his body. He laid still, clenching his eyes shut as he waited for the pain to pass, during that moment he noticed a few things, he took in account his crisp, dry throat and the heaviness in his bones, as if he was sinking into whatever platform he was on. He then felt the stiff, familiar foam.

He snapped his eyes open, as another pain rang through his body, this one straight to his head. The heaviness in his bones quickly spread to his eyes as they suddenly became heavy as he feeling of dizziness overcame him. He closed his eyes a final time, not missing the faint smell of antiseptic.

The next time he woke up, he was more aware. He first smelt the scent of antiseptic that seemed to surround him. He then heard a faint but consistent beeping sound to his left and a soft but deep voice to his right. His throat felt raw and his bones felt heavy. He tried moving his left hand and was met with resistance. He gave up on his right and tried his legs which both seemed to meet the same fate as his hand.

At last, he tried opening his eyes, this time, he saw, with slight blear in his vision, a white ceiling. His eyes slowly slid down from the ceiling, onto the wall, spotting a beige chair, which seemed to be cushioning a duffel bag, against a white wall. He looked to his left and was met with a heart monitor, which had way too many numbers on it for the man to begin to even try to understand it. He took note of a couple other things, a table next to the chair, which seemed to contain medical supplies and even a pair of sunglasses. As he explored the room with his eyes, his hearing seemed to mature, as the faint sounds in the room had now risen in volume.

To his left, he could hear the heart monitor, he had just seen, with much better quality. Then he heard it, much clearer than before, he heard the timbre of a voice, one that seemed to ignite something deep within his body, but he wasn’t sure who it belonged to or why it provoked this sort of reaction. He was missing something.
