Work Text:
As far as Kujo was concerned Stands were an extension of oneself, a part if not their master's very soul. There wasn't a lot of information about the given topic and it didn't seem like in the near future someone was going to go out of their way to research the topic either.
So no one, not even Avdol, could possibly give him a solid answer to why the fuck this was happening.
Star Platinum had always been unique in a way, even if you didn't count his power in battle. From the moment it manifested, Star had seemed to develop a silly little "hobby" of collecting whatever they thought Jotaro would like and bring it to him like a pet returning to their owner with a gift. And just like a pet, Star seemed to expect praise for his findings and even looked sad when they didn't receive more than a glare. It even insisted on being referred to as "Star" when he was being manifested for more casual tasks (because yes Jotaro was using his Stand to do his chores) shouting a long trail of excited "Oras" and clapping his hands in excitement.
Of course, during the length of their trip to Egypt this behavior was practically nonexistent, Jotaro assumed it was primarily due to his mother's life being at stake, but the moment things went back to normal Star returned to his collecting habits.
Which led us to the problem at hand: Kakyoin.
Not Kakyoin specifically, no he wasn't to blame, but Star Platinum's sudden obsession over the redhead. Star will manifest uncalled for and start floating around his friend doing anything he could think of that will get Kakyoin's attention; It will do funny faces, it will juggle objects with a talent Jotaro knew he didn't possess, he will draw portraits or even flex his muscles while doing weird poses. All of this always gave him the reaction he wanted. Kakyoin will either giggle, nod or straight up talk and praise Star Platinum for his "abilities" or "physical attributes".
Every time Jotaro will try to apologize or dismiss the whole situation Kakyoin would just laugh it off and say that there was no problem, that he remember Hierophant being hard to control when he was younger (and a bit rebellious to this day) and that it was an aspect of his Stand he'd one day be to control and love.
He did know how to use this to his advantage, every time he got snacky and didn't feel like paying or thought a comic was way overpriced he'd just summon Star Platinum and take it with him without no one noticing a thing, how else was he supposed to get cigarettes? Maybe that's where Star got a shoplifting habit.
"Good grief…" Jotaro exhaled as he tried to focus in the book he was reading, all this thinking made his head hurt. They were hanging out at Kakyoin's house after school playing video games instead of studying. Well, Kakyoin was playing and Jotaro was reading…he wasn't in the mood to lose in such a stupid thing today.
"Something bordering you?" Kakyoin didn't seem to take his eyes off the screen when he asked that question as the sound of some guy getting killed came out of the TV.
When Jotaro looked up to answer he realized that the question hadn't been directed to him but to a giddy Star Platinum that was sitting in front of Kakyoin blocking the screen, the guy being killed had been the player.
Star, oblivious to the fact his appearance ment Kakyoin now had to restart the whole level, gave him a little white pin of a black cat with a loaf of bread for a body. He looked so proud of himself.
Kakyoin looked baffled at the silly pin in his hand for a second before chuckling as he showed Jotaro the new tribute the Stand had given him. It was stupid. It was a stupid pin with a stupid and unfunny image in it that served no aesthetic purpose but for some reason Kakyoin was laughing at it. Or maybe he was laughing that Jotaro Kujo's Stand from all people (people?) had been the one who gave it to him. It probably was the second option.
BKakyoin's laugh was ugly, it really was. It cracked and made him sound like a madman with the weird face it always came accompanied with. The way he would clack his tongue and little "he he's" would escape like he was trying to hold the laughter reminded Jotaro of an evil cartoon rodent plotting some stupid plan to steal some nuts or something while rubbing it's little rodent paws looking at the camera menacingly. A weird but true comparison in his opinion, not that he will ever tell Kakyoin that.
The point was that Kakyoin was laughing at the pin and looking at Jotaro as if he got an idea of why Star would give that to him.
"He he- It- It's a- look at this little guy Jojo! Look at him!" As ugly as Kakyoin's laugh was, Jotaro realized he wouldn't mind listening to it for hours.
Turning back to face Star, Kakyoin summoned Hierophant Green and ordered him to cup the other Stand's head with its hands. Both ghosts seemed happy with that action, Hierophant moving it's fingers through the dark hair and Star leaning to the touch while smiling sheepishly to the pleased reaction his gift had gotten from the redhead.
"What good taste you have Star! This is one of my favorites!" That comment reminded Jotaro that this wasn't the first pin Star had given Kakyoin and that he in fact had to start a collection in order to explain to his parents why he had so many of them. He kept them all in a drawer, organized and attached to little squares of cloth.
This time though, the pin was attached to Kakyoin's personal backpack, one he used to carry most of his art supplies and sketchbooks "Oh I love it…" His laughing had finally calmed down and was replaced with small giggles "Thank you too, Jojo" He smiled at him and all Jotaro could do was nod.
They both returned to their activities, Hierophant Green's hands didn't leave Star's hair for the test of the evening.
—-----
"That is very impressive Star! When did you learn to do that?"
Jotaro scoffed, trying to make his annoyance noticeable for his friend and failing miserably. Star was juggling Jotaro's school supplies and doing some overly complicated tricks to entertain Kakyoin because apparently his own Stand decided he was too boring for his own friend.
Like if he asked for their opinion, wasn't he an extension of himself? If Jotaro was boring then that meant that Star Platinum was also boring.
And he wasn't boring Kakyoin! His friend had asked him about the natural habitat for a specific type of tropical fish and Jotaro gave him the answer in the form of a complete but beginner friendly explanation. And Kakyoin seemed delighted, never once took his eyes off Jotaro and wore a goofy smile the entire time. That was until Star tapped his shoulder and began his little show, maybe Jotaro thought he was boring Kakyoin and wanted to help.
He should check on his self loathing later.
Jotaro felt a sudden presence under his coat and noticed Hierophant Green sliding under it, he remembered Kakyoin telling him that his stand disliked open spaces and would often hide underneath his master's own clothing. It seemed that his Stand wasn't the only one with its quirks. But unlike Star Platinum, Hierophant's personality trait wasn't being a silly attention seeker.
No, Hierophant Green was an asshole.
A sneaky, funny and resourceful asshole that loved pranking his own master in the most inconvenient moments. Jotaro loved it. At the beginning he just found it mildly amusing how he would play tricks on his own user,. That was until one time Hierophant, when Kakyoin was too busy to notice, tripped the group of girls who were approaching Jotaro with one of his tentacles. It took a lot of self control from Jotaro to not burst into laughter right there. Kakyoin was mortified and didn't know how to apologize, especially because there was no way the girls would understand why he was apologizing in the first place.
Kakyoin could be a cheeky little shit if he truly wanted though, it just so happened that his Stand had held to that personality trait and amplified it to eleven.
He raised an eyebrow to the Stand, curious of what mischievous plan it had in mind. They just snickered to themselves and gave Jotaro a folded piece of paper, then it disappeared before his master could realize it manifest without permission.
Jotaro opened the paper to find it filled with doodles of himself from top to bottom, so a piece of Kakyoin's sketchbook huh? God that Stand enjoyed humiliating his own owner. He smiled to himself and carefully put the neatly folded paper in one of his pockets.
He wondered if Kakyoin had any more drawings of him in his notebook and surprised himself when he realized that he hoped the answer was yes.
—----
The information Kakyoin had asked him about tropical fish and their habitats had been for a painting dedicated to him. It wasn't even his birthday yet, Kakyoin just decided he wanted to give Jotaro something for no particular reason.
He gave it to him one weekend in Jotaro's backyard while they were having some tea. Kakyoin looked anxious but so proud of himself at the same time and Jotaro decided that this was a look that fitted him well, he looked good like that and the painting looked more than good as well and now that he thought about it Kakyoin looked more than good-
He stopped thinking the moment Star threw itself over Kakyoin and fell into the ground, nuzzling his cheek with the man's chest.
"Oh Star I- Well I guess I won't have to ask you if you liked it, huh?" He looked up to Jotaro with a beautiful smile that went from cheek to cheek, no wonder why Star liked making him smile.
Jotaro pulled the brim of his hat to hide his expression and forced his Stand to disappear. He offered Kakyoin his hand, who happily accepted.
"It's great, thank you. You paint really well" He kept looking at the painting although it was just an excuse to not look his friend in the eyes.
B"I'm glad you like it, I tried to be as accurate as possible" Kakyoin said, also using the painting as a way to not look at Jotaro directly "I was a bit nervous about you not liking it"
"I like the way you draw" jotaro wanted to punch himself for the way he was talking, unnecessarily direct that made it seem as if he was lying or something like that.
He tried to look at his friend in the eyes, immediately regretting it as he found himself speechless the moment he met those lilac eyes. Still, he had to say something, anything really, that would make it seem like he wasn't just praising Kakyoin out of cordiality. He tried to remember the tips those pathetic "How to make friends" books his mother would read to him when he was a child gave him.
B"Do you have the sketches with you? I would like to see how your first version were" Yes that, look interested. He was complicating this to himself.
"Oh yeah sure" He sat down again and started searching through his backpack (now with a new silly pin) for the sketchbook, once he found it he started skipping through the pages "Let me just… look for the page"
Jotaro smiled to himself as he sat next to Kakyoin as he chose he wouldn't be the only one this evening who would feel embarrassed "Oh don't worry, Hierophant already showed me the sketches you have of me"
"WHAT"
It was his turn to laugh, big and loud in a way that resonated through his chest and Kakyoin's embarrassed and confused expression made it better.
Jotaro's laugh wasn't pretty and at the moment it was being producedat his expense, but Kakyoin found himself not minding one bit. In fact, he could listen to it for hours.
