Work Text:
“I was in SpecOps, Carter,” said Jack, after a long moment of quiet, “I could make it look like an accident.”
Sam laughed, sending a little puff of condensed breath into the air in front of them. “This isn’t actually Daniel’s fault,” she reminded him.
“I didn’t say it was. I said I was going to blame him. And kill him.”
“Jack…”
His huff of breath was more of a snort, quickly smothered as he ducked to press his cold nose to the skin below Sam’s left ear. “I could maybe just rough him up a little,” he conceded.
He could feel her jaw move as she smiled. “Or you could not.”
P5X-227 had appeared to have a temperate climate when they arrived. There had been a distinct chill to the air that had prompted them to pack the heavy weather gear, but none of the MALP data had suggested the sudden, blinding blizzard that had rolled on them without warning. The team had been split into three groups – Mitchell and Teal’c, by the gate, had already gone back to Earth for a rescue team; Daniel and Vala were in the temporary science building, with its generator and heating system; while Sam and Jack had been out in the open, following an energy reading they thought might be an Ancient device. As the snow began falling faster, they’d found a shallow cave and ducked inside, watching the snow pile up at its entrance.
“At least we have cold weather gear this time,” Sam pointed out. “And a rescue team that already knows where we are.”
“True,” Jack allowed. “But it’s July, Carter. It’s ninety-two in the shade back home, and I have a freezer full of ice cream waiting for me. And now, I’m gonna be too cold to want to eat it.”
“Well,” said Sam, smoothing the emergency blanket around them. “There are a few things we could do to get your temperature back up.”
He leaned back to offer her a playful leer. “Oh, yeah?”
“Once we get back home,” she warned.
Jack just grinned and snuggled in closer. “Back to our one, singular home,” he said, and Sam’s laughter made him feel warmer already.
THE END
