Fin and I met for breakfast this morning. We decided to meet once a week for breakfast, so we can talk about sobriety and avoiding gambling.
“I’m really proud of you. You got your one year chip.” Fin says.
“I’m really happy. I didn’t think I was going to make it. Now that I have a year under my belt, I can finally ask Liv out.” I say.
“Don’t worry, she’s going to say yes. She’s been in love with you since you stepped foot in SVU.” Fin says.
“Well, to tell you the truth, I’ve had a crush on her ever since I saw her on TV a few years ago.” I say.
“She’s beautiful. What’s not to love about her?” Fin says.
“True.” I mumble as I take a bite of my bagel and lox.
After breakfast, we head to the precinct to get the day started.
“Hey Liv! Can I talk to you for a second?” I ask Liv.
“Of course. What’s up?” Liv asks me.
“Would you like to have dinner with me?” I ask Liv.
“I would love to.” Liv says.
“Awesome. After we get off work, I’ll take you to whatever restaurant you want.” I say.
“Okay. I’m looking forward to it.” Liv says.
“Me too.” I say.
“Oh, how did your meeting go last night?” Liv asks me.
“It went well. I got my one year chip.” I say.
“Congratulations.” Liv says.
“Thanks…” Liv’s cell phone starts ringing.
I smile at her and take a seat at my desk.
Liv walks out of the office a couple minutes later.
“Okay. We caught a case. Amanda, Fin…I want you guys to head to the hospital to talk to our victim. Nick and I will head to the crime scene. Please keep me updated!” Liv says.
Fin and I grab our gear and head to the hospital to talk to our victim.
Once at Bellview, we head up to the front desk of the emergency department.
“Sargent Odafin Tutuola, and this is my partner Detective Amanda Rollins. We’re here for the rape victim that was just brought in.” Fin says.
“We don’t have a rape victim. Sorry Detectives.” The nurse says.
“Are you sure? Our Captain said that the victim was brought here…maybe an hour ago?” I say.
“Do you have a name?” The nurse asks me.
“Monica James.” I say. She types the name into her computer.
“Aw, there she is. She’s in the ICU. Room ICU 3.” The nurse says.
“What? My god.” I say.
Fin and I make our way up to the ICU.
“Jesus. What did the bastard do to her?” I ask Fin.
“My god.” Fin says as he puts his hand over his mouth.
“Hello Detectives. My name is Dr. June. I called you guys, because your victim has been in a persistent vegitative state for three years now. She was transferred here from her nursing home, and I ran basic tests on her.” Dr. June says.
“What kind of tests?” I ask.
“She’s pregnant. I did an ultrasound and found that she’s 16 weeks pregnant.” Dr. June says.
“My god. So, she was raped at her nursing home?” Fin says.
“It looks like it.” Dr. June says.
“Who is her next of kin?” I ask.
“Her wife, Jean.” Dr June says. She gives us her phone number and leaves the room.
Fin and I call Liv.
“Hey Liv. Our victim’s name is Danielle. She’s been in a persistent vegitative state for three years. She was transferred to the hospital and the doctor ran basic tests on her, and found that she was 16 weeks pregnant.” I say.
“Oh geez. Okay. Go talk to her next of kin, and Nick and I will meet you back at the precinct once you’re done.” Liv says.
“Okay.” I hang up and place the phone back in the holder on my hip.
Fin and I quickly look up the wife, and find her address. I knock on the door.
“Hello. My name is Detective Amanda Rollins, and this is my partner Detective Odafin Tutuola. Can we talk to you for a second?” I ask Jean.
“Of course. Please come in Detectives.” Jean says.
“Thank you.” Fin says. We take a seat on the couch.
“Can I get you anything to drink?” Jean asks Fin and I.
“I’m okay. Thanks. Um…the reason why we’re here is because your partner was recently transferred to Bellview from her nursing facility…Correct?” I say.
“Yes.” Jean says.
“Unfortunately, the doctor ran some basic tests and found that your wife is pregnant. She’s roughly 16 weeks along.” I say.
“Oh geez Detectives. I’m so sorry that you had to come all this way for me to tell you that I authorized the procedure that got my wife pregnant.” Jean says.
“You did?” Fin asks Jean.
“Yes sir. I want a baby with my wife. She’s never coming back to me. That’s why, after she gives birth to our baby, I will be pulling the plug. She wouldn’t want to live like this.” Jean says.
Fin and I are left in disbelief.
“Are you sure that is what she wants?” I ask Jean.
“Yes ma’am. Now, because my wife wasn’t raped or assaulted, would you kindly leave my house? Thanks.” Jean says.
Fin and I climb into the squad car.
“What in the actual fuck?” I say.
“We don’t have a case. She authorized the procedure that got her wife pregnant.” Fin says.
I call Liv.
“Liv. Fin and I just talked to the wife. She authorized the procedure that got her wife pregnant.” I say.
“We got the same story from the doctor at the nursing home.” Liv says.
“So, do we have a case?” I ask her.
“Unfortunately, no. Let’s head back to the station.” Liv says.
“Okay. Fin and I will stop and grab lunch. How does pizza sound?” I ask.
“That sounds great.” Liv says.
Fin and I stop at Mario’s and grab a large cheese pizza and two large salads with chicken.
After returning to the precinct, Fin and I set the food down on his desk.
“Alright everyone. Lunch is ready.” Fin says.
“Wonderful. What did you get?” Amaro asks Fin.
“We got a large cheese pizza and a couple of salads.” Fin says.
We’re almost done eating lunch, when Liv gets a call about another case.
“Okay. We caught another case. A 13 year old boy was kidnapped on his way home from school. Amanda and I will head to the school and talk to his teachers and the principal. Fin and Amaro, you can talk to the parents. The address is 1340 West 34th street.” Liv says.
Liv and I grab our gear and head to the school.
“Why don’t you go talk to the principal and I’ll talk to the teachers.” Liv says.
“Okay. Sounds good.” I say.
I find the principal pacing back and forth in her office.
“Hello Ms. Douglas. My name is Detective Amanda Rollins. SVU. Can we take a seat and discuss Christopher Andrews?” I ask.
“It’s all my fault. I saw Christopher getting shoved into a van. I couldn’t move. I tried to cry out; but nothing came out. I’m afraid for him.” Ms. Douglas says.
“Do you remember what the kidnapper was wearing?” Fin asks her.
“Dark blue jeans. A white shirt and a green hat.” Ms. Douglas says.
“Okay. And what was Christopher wearing?” I ask.
“He was wearing our school uniform, which consists of a pair of khaki pants, and a blue button up shirt with a blue tie.” Ms. Douglas says.
“Okay. And what kind of vehicle was the kidnapper using?” I ask.
“A white Toyota Tundra.” Ms. Douglas says.
“Did you get a look at the license plate?” Fin asks.
“Yes. It was FFE-1394.” She says.
“Okay. Thank you Ms. Douglas. If you can think of anything else, please give us a call.” Fin says as he hands her his card.
“Thank you detectives.” She says.
Fin and I head back to the squad car.
Fin calls Liv and lets her know what we’ve discovered so far.
“She wants us to head back to the squad room.” Fin says. I nod.
I drive us back to the squad room. Once inside, we take a seat at our desks. Liv and Amaro show up a few minutes later.
“Amaro and I spoke to the parents. We got a picture of the boy…” She hands me the picture. I quickly scan it, and bring the photo up on the TV.
“He’s wearing khaki pants, a blue button up shirt, and a blue tie.” Liv says.
“Did you and Fin get a description of the vehicle?” Liv asks me.
“Yes. The suspect is driving a white Toyota Tundra with license plate number FFE-1394.” I say.
“Okay. Fin and Amanda, I want you to look up the registered owner of the Tundra. Once you’ve located the driver, pick them up and bring them back here for interrogation. Amaro and I will go as backup.” Liv says.
Fin and I run the license plate through the DMV database and discover that the vehicle belongs to a James Patrick Randolph of 1235 West 32nd street. We quickly grab our gear and head to the suspects apartment building.
Once there, we head up to the suspects apartment and knock on the door.
“This is Captain Olivia Benson with the Special Victims Unit. Open the door!” Liv yells.
The door opens and a young man steps out of the apartment.
“How can I help you detectives?” He asks.
“Captain Olivia Benson with SVU. Where’s the boy?” Liv asks him.
“What boy?” He asks.
“Your vehicle matches the description of a vehicle that was being driven by the suspect in a kidnapping.” Liv says.
“My truck was stolen a couple weeks ago. I have the police report and everything.” He says.
“Can you grab it for me?” Liv asks. He grabs the police report and hands it to Liv.
“Damn. Okay. Do you have a description of the guy who stole your truck?” Liv asks.
“He was roughly six feet tall. Dark brown hair and he was wearing a green shirt.” He says.
“Okay. Would you be willing to work with a sketch artist?” Liv asks.
“Sure. Let me grab my things and we can go.” He says.
After he grabs his things, we drive him back to the precinct where he meets with our sketch artist. They work together for roughly an hour, until the sketch is complete.
“Amanda, can you make several copies of the sketch?” Liv asks.
I scan the drawing into the computer and make 30 copies of the sketch.
We leave the station to head to the crime scene. We spend roughly an hour handing out fliers to people in the neighborhood.
“I know this man. He’s my brother. What did he do?” A young woman asks me.
“We have reason to believe that your brother is involved in a kidnapping that happened earlier today.” I say.
“Oh geez.” She says.
“Can you tell me his name?” I ask.
“John Brown.” She says.
“And where does he live?” I ask.
“3992 West 34th street.” She says.
“Okay, thanks for your time.” I say.
I quickly find Liv and let her know what’s going on.
“Hey. So, I found the sister of our suspect. She says that he lives at 3992 West 34th street, and his name is John Brown.” I say.
“Okay. Let’s grab Fin and Amaro and we’ll head over to his place.” Liv says.
We grab Fin and Amaro and head to John’s house. Once there, Fin knocks on the door.
“Sargent Odafin Tutuola. SVU. Open the door!” Fin yells.
“Help!” I hear from inside the house. I peek through the blinds and see our victim lying on the floor.
“Our victim is lying on the floor. Our suspect is standing over him.” I say.
Liv kicks the door several times. It bursts open and Fin and I grab the suspect, while Liv and Amaro grab our victim.
“John Brown, you’re under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say, can, and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, and if you can not afford one, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand your rights?” Fin asks him.
“Yes.” He says.
Fin and Amaro take the victim to the hospital, while Liv and I take our suspect back to the precinct.
We place him in interrogation three, and wait for his lawyer to get there.
“You’re representing your brother?” I ask our suspects sister.
“You’re the one that gave us his name and address.” Liv says.
“I know; but even my brother needs decent representation.” She says.
She speaks to her brother for a good 20 minutes. After she’s done, she calls Liv and I into the room.
“I want to talk to your ADA.” She says.
“I’ll call her.” I say.
Once Alex Cabot arrives, she takes a seat across from the suspect and his sister.
“How can I help you?” Alex asks.
“My brother will plead guilty to the kidnapping; but he wants you to assure him that you won’t pursue the death penalty, as he’s admitted to kidnapping and murdering at least four boys. Three here in Manhattan, and one in Brooklyn.” She says. Alex nods and says…
“We need names and locations of the bodies. If everything checks out, I’ll offer him 20 years to life for each murder. You’ll never be getting out of prison.” Alex says.
“The first boy is Hector Ramirez. I raped and murdered him, before stuffing his body into a large water tank. He’s still there. On top of an abandoned building at 2343 Jefferson.” He says.
We spend the next hour and a half taking his statement.
By 2:00 AM, we’ve recovered all four of our suspect’s victims.
“I still owe you dinner.” I mumble to Liv.
“Why don’t we grab some Chinese and head back to your place?” Liv says.
“That sounds like a plan.” I say.
We grab our food and head back to my place.
Once there, we make ourselves a plate of food and take a seat on my couch.
“Thank you for dinner.” Liv says.
“Of course. I was starving.” I say.
“Me too.” Liv says.
“So…is this our first date?” I ask.
Liv chuckles and says…
“Sure.”
“Okay, cool. I’m excited.” I say.
“What took you so long to ask me out?” Liv asks.
“My sponsor recommended that I wait at least a year before getting into a relationship.” I say. Liv nods and says…
“Well, I’m glad that you finally asked me out.”
“Me too.” I say.
After we finish eating, I walk Liv back to her apartment, luckily we live in the same building, and head back to my apartment. I strip down to my boxers and a sports bra, and lie down on the bed.
