Chapter Text
Time passes by as the two of you slowly separated emotionally; You used to be close friends with the head of the Namimori Discipline Committee, Hibari Kyoya – he was a childhood friend of yours, but as the two of you grew up, the connection that the two of you had started to fade. There were some thoughts that lingered in your mind before that it might be because he was just in his rebel phase or something, but that didn't really explain why he just avoided you all of a sudden. Was he being like that because you didn't approach him like before and the friendship that the two of you had started to fade, as if there was no bond that you two shared?
Currently, the two of you attend Namimori Middle school as third-year students and a new semester just started.
The petals from cherry blossom trees sways fleetingly in the air before it gracefully lands on the ground, the breezy spring air that passes by to tickle your cheek, and the sight of your childhood friend whose back was turned on you as you quietly pass by him. Apparently, the Committee is investigating some matters that are happening around Namimori. You know that Kyoya loves this small town so much that he usually spends his time patrolling the school or the whole town – now that you think about it, you're not sure if he's doing it for people's safety or he just wants to pick a fight with someone. Naturally, students are worried about this situation but as the Student Council president – you're also doing your job to keep the students safe; it's your responsibility after all. You were chosen as their leader and the well being of your fellow schoolmates is your first priority.
At school, people didn't know about the friendship that you two used to have; (Last Name) (Name), the Student Council president and Hibari Kyoya were once close friends? Talk about a weird duo.
Ever since you became a middle school student, it was around the time when Kyoya didn't talk to you anymore. You haven't asked about it yet, since you were so scared about his response. The time that you realized that it was happening, you only let the whole thing pass by in your eyes, as if going by the flow. Of course you missed him. You missed the time you spent with him; He was always by your side, who protects you against your bullies. He was always the one who would listen to you, the one who would play and spend time with you, that one boy that your parents always say that they wish to have a son like him – he was like a brother to you, so why would he leave your side? Is being alone the only thing he wants?
Years have already passed and it looks like it was only you who couldn't move on.
Maybe you cherished him so much that you couldn't let go of him. Him, memories with him, the friendship that the two of you had – were they a waste of time for him? Did he feel obligated to stay at your side before and felt fed up by it one day and just left you alone?
You stopped your feet, standing still in your position as you turned your head to look at him – only to meet his steely eyes that made you quickly avoid his gaze.
It seemed like the sudden eye contact didn't even faze him, as he only looked at you with a blank expression that masked his face. Embarrassment filled your chest, cheeks reddening as you quickened your walking pace away from the entrance gate. Clearly, that was an awkward interaction – well, it's not really considered an 'interaction' since the two of you only made eye contact, but it seemed like he acknowledged your existence. That he knew that it was you who passed by him. It also made your heart ache – the realization that you can only look from afar and not stay on his side is painful. Was the bond that the two of you shared was not important to him? He won't waste a single word on you. Nor look on your way like how he used to be.
All he gave to you was a cold shoulder and a blank stare.
Finally arriving in your locker, you took out some materials that you would be needing for your afternoon class out from your school bag and shoved it inside the metallic locker. Thoughts flooded your mind about your schedule and how to manage it, since it seems like you would be busy again with Student Council work with the upcoming meeting about the situation and some paperworks that needed your attention.
It looked like the situation was getting worse and worse, and since you'll be having a meeting with the Discipline Committee later, you're sure as hell that the president himself won't even attend and have his right-hand man to go in his stead.
Hell, you decided to become the president once you learned about Kyoya being the leader in Discipline Committee and maybe, becoming a president yourself would make him talk with you – you know, some school stuff – but that was enough for you, as long as he talk with you again and that's the only thing that matters for you.
A heavy sigh escaped your lips while walking on the hallway, currently on the way to the Student Council Office to check up on some things before classes starts. Your hand rested on the handle of your school bag, eyebrows knitted as your gaze were only focused on the way up ahead.
Clearly, the stress is taking a toll in your well-being; Maybe this is also the reason why you're suddenly thinking of Kyoya – You've already buried those feelings of regret, disappointment, and sadness deep in your heart, and decided to focus on the present.
Those dormant feelings have not surfaced in a long time and it might've been bottled for too long that you're suffering the consequences.
You shook your head as you rubbed your temple, the thoughts that once filled your mind were fading. As soon as you reached the door, you fished the keys out of your skirt pocket and inserted it on the keyhole. Before turning it, you heard voices fill the hallway.
"–that's the current situation for now, Hibari-san." The voice seems to belong to Kyoya's right hand man, Kusakabe.
You stood still in your spot, eyes drooped as you listened to them. But it seemed like that you were in your train of thoughts once again and only focused on the voices around you. There was only a hum of response from Kusakabe's report. When the two saw your figure, Kusakabe greeted you with a cheerful, "Good Morning, (Last Name)-san." he said politely, making you turn to their direction but your eyes only met Kyoya's.
"Oh!" you let out in surprise, the key was left stuck on the door as you didn't turn it around to open the knob, "Good Morning to the both of you." you greeted back as you gave them a small bow, Kusakabe returned the gesture with a smile as your gaze finally landed at him. "Let's do our best today."
You nodded from the polite greetings as Kyoya only watched you. You could feel him staring at you, as if piercing through your soul before seeing the two of them went on their way to the Discipline Committee Office. Your office and their office are actually quite near each other, being separated only by a small vacant room that's being used as a storage room. Now, with another awkward interaction once again (and no talking from the guy himself), you finally turned the key and opened the door, entering the room.
For now, the only thing you could think of was the memories you once shared with Kyoya.
