Your Scars Don't Define You

Summary:

my ELA teacher had the class read The Hobbit and watch it in class as well and...

i got obsessed with Kíli. 😅

i started thinking about his character and how the director of The Hobbit made his character more of a character than Tolkein did in the book.

Notes:

TW- dysphoria, unsafe binding

i tried making this seem like Tolkien's writing but i suck at it so like

Chapter 1: Covered

Chapter Text

-The good thing about wearing heavy, tight armor is how it covers chests. The only bad thing seemed to be taking it off, getting it on, and moving around in it.-

You see, Kíli wasn't always Fíli's brother. In fact, he was born Fíli's little sister. She was a beautiful young lady, and at the age of 25 (12 in Dwarf years), she decided to change everything about herself: her name, her pronouns, her body. His brother Fíli and his mother Dís loved him, they loved Kíli. But his Uncle Thorin, former Prince Under the Mountain, did not. This is the story of how Kíli faught for his Uncle's acceptance, and love.

"E's back!" Balin yelled as Thorin Oakenshield road through the gates of the home the Dwarves had made in the Blue Mountain. The Dwarves hurriedly got up and rushed out to meet their leader halfway. "Kíli! What's wrong?" Fíli said as his brother, Kíli, struggled to get up. "N-Nothing, Fíli. I'm right as rain," Kíli muttered as he got off the chair. He watched as Fíli's eyes narrowed. Kíli smiled his charming smile and quickly walked past his brother.

"Kíli, you know you can tell me if somethin's botherin' you, right?" The blonde watched as his younger brother stopped, as if he was really going to talk to him. Instead, Kíli smiled softly and said, "I know." And he walked out to meet the other Dwarves.

Kíli's breathing was irregular. It wasn't hard to notice, but for two out of the only three that really know him, it was easier to see it. Fíli quickly picked up on this and put a hand on Kíli's shoulder, although he quickly removed it when he realized that Kíli's breathing got worse. "Kíli? Are you okay?" Kíli responded with a curt nod, and Fíli focused back on Thorin and what he was saying about going on a quest, not wanting to bother his brother anymore. It was silent until Kíli started breathing more shallowly, gasping with every other breath. "Kíli?" concerned, Fíli interrupted his Uncle. "Irak’adad! It's Kíli, somethin's wrong!" Thorin stopped talking and looked over to the youngest Dwarf. The others stared at Kíli and murmered amongst themselves.

Thorin walked over to the brothers and put a hand on Kíli's cheek, looking into his scared eyes with his concerned ones. "Irakdashat, how long has your chest been wrapped?" He spoke quietly, but loud enough for Fíli and Kíli to hear it. Fíli's eyes widened with realization. "Brother, how long?" Kíli shook his head and looked at the ground, his breathing becoming more ragged. "Irakdashat," Thorin said more forcefully. The brunette took a shaky breath and answered quietly. "A day.." The brothers' Uncle moved swiftly. He picked the younger up and entered the city, rushing to his sister's house. Fíli stood frozen with the others, not knowing what to do. "Fíli," Bombur's voice cut through the silence, "Go with them, make sure yer Kharm is okay for us." Fíli nodded and hurried off in the direction his Uncle had taken Kíli.

Thorin knocked hurriedly on Dís' door. He was worried, not that he'd admit it aloud though. Kíli's breathing had gotten worse on the run over. The young Dwarf groaned in pain with every step Thorin took, and it broke his stone heart. "I'm comin, I'm comin!" Dís' voice sounded through the thin door. Thorin adjusted his grip on Kíli and almost cried when he heard his youngest nephew whine. The door opened with no warning. "Thorin! What brings you to visit?" Dís was in a cheery mood, Thorin hated to ruin that.

"It's your youngest son, he's wrapped for too long."
