Work Text:
You had just finished setting the table when you heard a light knock on the door.
“May I come in?” a sweet voice asked from the other side.
“Coming!” you answered.
You opened the door, and in came Princess Peach, looking as radiant as the sun. You could hardly take your eyes off of her as she observed your work.
You had been crushing on the princess ever since you first met her a couple of years ago, and that had only grown the more time you spent together.
“This looks lovely!” said Peach, smiling brightly, “And the food smells so good too. You must’ve put so much effort into all of this.”
“Of course,” you nodded, your cheeks flushing a bright red, “Only the best meal for a princess like you, Your Highness.”
“Oh, enough with the ‘highness’ bit,” Peach laughed gently, “We’ve known each other long enough, just call me Peach.”
“Erm…yes, Peach.”
You and Peach sat down across from each other, and you poured her some tea.
“Oh, thank you so much,” said Peach, “Here, allow me to pour yours.”
Before you could protest, she was already filling your teacup and handing it to you.
“You didn’t have to do that,” you said, “I could’ve gotten my own tea.”
“I know,” Peach smiled sweetly, “I just wanted to return the favor. I’d feel guilty if I didn’t do anything for you after you put in all this work.”
You blushed even harder than before, if possible. You felt you really didn’t deserve to be having dinner with such a wonderful person like Peach.
“Th-thank you,” you mumbled.
Dinner went pretty smoothly after that. Well, smoothly for Peach, because you barely touched your food. You just couldn’t take your eyes off of the princess. For whatever reason, she was looking particularly beautiful today, which was odd, since her outfit, makeup and hair looked the same as they always did.
“Are you alright?” Peach asked, her voice tinged with concern, “You haven’t eaten much at all. Is your stomach having trouble?”
“W-what? N-no, not at all,” you stammered, “I-I was just…uh…”
Your mind went blank. How on earth could you possibly explain your feelings, especially when the target of them was sitting right in front of you?
“If you’re not feeling well, we should take you to a doctor,” said Peach, standing up from her seat.
“No, no, no,” you shook your head, “I appreciate your concern, but really, I’m fine. I was just…”
“Just what?” Peach asked, leaning in so close her face was mere inches away from yours.
Goodness, her sparkling blue eyes looked so pretty. Eventually, you couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“I…I…I love you, Peach!” you finally blurted out.
You could hear a pin drop in the silence that followed. You closed your eyes and sighed, knowing you blew your one chance to tell her how you felt.
Suddenly, you felt a hand cup your cheek and a pair of lips press against yours. You opened your eyes and saw Peach pulling away slightly, her face beaming.
“Did…did you just…,” you said, trying to process what just happened.
“It seems I just did,” Peach giggled.
“So, you’re not mad?” you asked.
“Mad? Why would I be?” said Peach, “I’ve been waiting for you to say that for so long!”
“Wait, what?” you gasped, “So, you mean…”
“Yes, I love you too,” Peach gave you her sweetest smile, “You’re so sweet and earnest and hard-working, and also really cute.”
You blushed again, but you smiled in spite of it.
“So, does this make us girlfriends?” you asked, “I mean, you’re a princess and I’m not, so…”
“You’re overthinking this,” Peach laughed gently, “I would love to be your girlfriend.”
“I…this is the best day of my life,” you said, hardly believing this was actually happening.
“I know how to make it even better,” said Peach.
“How so?”
Peach leaned over to kiss you again. This time she held the kiss, letting you take it all in. You gladly kissed her back, resting your right hand on her cheek.
“You’re right,” you grinned once you two broke apart, “That did make it even better.”
