Chapter Text

The icy wind blew unforgivingly and inconsistently. Each gust caused the trees to shiver, swaying in a way that made them look as if they were trying to run away. Ellie’s eyes scanned the room she resided in, soon making their way to the window. An anxious visage appeared on her face as she remembered; It was the first day at a new school for Ellie but she was used to it. Although it didn’t make it less stressful for her, knowing that Jackson is her permanent home helped a bit to ease her worries.

It was early in the morning, and Ellie was on her way to the office for her schedule. Her feet ached a little from the walk, even though it wasn’t far. When she reached her destination, she sighed. It was hard to be happy after all the trauma that kept her up at night. It has gotten to the point where it was almost unbearable to sleep, especially alone in the dark.

“Chin up,” she thought silently to herself as she lifted her head. Her dark green eyes wandered until they rested when they met with the woman sitting at the front desk. The woman had short, brown hair that looked like the color of chocolate moose, and a flowery blouse that complimented the wooden color of the desk she sat behind.

“How can I help you?” She woman inquired, a look of curiosity displayed on her pale face.

Ellie nodded. “I’m new and I need my schedule.”

“What’s your name?”

Ellie hesitated for a second. To her that questioned sounded so distant, yet she couldn’t place her finger on the reason why. “Ellie Williams,” she replied.

A fake smile crossed the woman’s face. It was the type of smile that people would make when they’re just trying to be polite. “Okay, I’ll go to print it out,”

The woman discreetly got up from her desk, walking to the printer once she stabilized herself. It didn’t take long before she came back, holding Ellie’s papers in her right hand.

“Here you go,” she spoke, handing the documents to me before continuing. “Oh, I almost forgot! Dina is another student that goes here. She was assigned to give you a tour of the campus.”

Ellie nodded in an act of acknowledgement, making her way to a chair near by to wait. A few minutes later, and a tall girl with silky, black hair and brown eyes stumbled in. The girl, Dina, looked around for a second before spotting Ellie. Without further hesitation, she walked up to Ellie.

“Hey I’m Dina. Ready for your tour?” The young woman said, a fatigued looking written on her face.

“Oh!” Ellie exclaimed in a caught-off- guard manner. “Yes,”

Ellie picked up her backpack from the dirty floor she had left in on, soon after following Dina out of the office and into the eerie looking school hallway.

———
“And that’s the cafeteria,” Dina gestured towards the empty, giant room. The air in the cafeteria was food-stained, which made sense because each trash can will filled past the brim with trash and left overs. Ellie wouldn’t help but gag a little, trying her best to stay polite as Dina continued to explain. “We have a few minutes until homeroom starts if you want to go to your locker,”

“Alright, I will. Thanks,” Ellie started to walk away. The lights, although dim, seemed so bright to her sleep- deprived eyes. Something about Dina made Ellie want to stay but she didn’t know what. The beautiful girl’s heart skipped a beat at the thought of Dina. Maybe it was the comfort she felt around her.

“Wait!” Dina said just as she started to walk away. “Do you want to sit with me and my friends at lunch? We have the same lunch period,”

A confused Ellie was slightly flustered as she processed the beautiful tour guide’s words.

“Maybe,” Ellie said with a smile as she turned around. Her smile grew bigger. Maybe this was fate?
——

Ellie walked into the cafeteria it was a huge open room with booths on the side of the walls. The sealing was skylights. She looked around and immediately saw Dina she was sitting with four other people. “You got this” Ellie said to herself and walked to Dina’s table.

“Hey”

“Oh hi!” Dina shot up from her chair.

“Everyone this is Ellie, she’s the student I gave a tour to.” Dina smiled.

“Hi” Ellie smiled with a sense of nervousness. She grabbed a chair and pulled her lunch out. It was in a brown bag and had a pbj with chips and a water. There was a note on the sandwich. “Have a great first day at school kiddo! -Joel” Ellie smiled at the note.

“I’m Abby by the way,” the girl with blonde hair and long blonde braid. “that’s Levi” she gestured to a boy who has scars across his cheekbones and a bald head. “Hey” he nodded his head.

“I’m Yara” the girl also had scars across her cheek bones. Ellie waved her hand.

“So, have you been finding your way around the school?” Dina asked

“Not really the building is huge and I never know what is on each floor.” The green eyed girl complained.

“Send me your schedule and I can tell you after lunch.” Dina said

“Here’s my number” the brown eyed girl read her number to Ellie.

“I got it.” Ellie said with a genuine smile on her face.

They were walking in the hallway when, Dina told Ellie about her teachers.

“Okay, so you have Ms Bruck and she is on the second floor. She’s kinda a bitch, you have to sit up and can’t put your head down.” Ellie was half paying attention and half staring at her beautiful hazel eyes.

“Than you have Ms Beck, we both have have her 6th so, I can show you where she is. 7th is art Ms Darris is the best, she’s my favorite teacher.” Ellie nodded.

“I’ll see you 7th.” Dina smiled “see ya.” Ellie replied. Ellie was infatuated by Dina she could stare into her eyes all day.
