At first, Luka was skeptical about getting shrimp. It seemed like a lot of responsibility. But then Miku hit her with those puppy eyes of hers, and showed her the blue velvet and red cherry neocaridina. "So they'll be like our colors! Sorta, haha."
When Luka saw the tiny shrimp, she couldn't help thinking how adorable they looked. "Okay… We can get shrimp."
Miku squealed and hugged her tightly. "Thank you baby, thank you!! I promise I'll take such good care of them!"
And so, the pair researched everything they needed to know about neocaridina shrimp, from water parameters to feeding schedule. They began cycling an aquarium with live plants. Then finally, after many months, they were able to purchase their shrimp. Miku was practically bursting with excitement. "Oh Luka, I can't wait for them to have babies!!! They'll be our little shrimplets!!"
Luka chuckled in amusement. She loved watching her girlfriend have so much passion. "We just got them honey, I think we'll have to wait awhile."
And so wait awhile they did. One day Miku was performing a water change, when suddenly she nearly dropped her tube. "Luka, Luka come look!!! Two of the females are berried with eggs!"
Luka stopped washing dishes and came to observe. Sure enough, one blue and one red girl were extremely fat with yellow eggs that they would later give birth to. "How exciting!" The pink-haired woman said.
And so they watched for many weeks. Until one day, little tiny shrimplets had filled the tank. But they were confused. Instead of brilliant reds and blues, the babies were all brown. "Huh?" Miku looked with confusion.
Luka opened her phone and began troubleshooting the problem. Then she found an article. Do not mix colors if you want vibrant shrimp. They will revert back to their wild type and appear brown or clear.
Miku looked blankly. "Oh."
Then the pair burst into laughter. "Well, these are our children, and I love them." The turquoise haired girl clung to Luka.
Luka sighed with content. "Yep, they sure are."
