He’d abandoned her.
He left her with a promise to come back. One she knew he wouldn’t keep. One she didn’t want him to keep. She deserved this, it was punishment. She lied and screwed up, she betrayed her friend. She got Steven hurt after all he’d done for her. She’d seen the damage on him, damage from a crack. His form was messed up, his face bulged and misshapen. Sure, he could heal himself, but that doesn’t change anything. She’d gotten him cracked . He could have shattered . The only gem who’d been nice to her! The one who freed her from her prison, who healed her, who let her get home ! And she’d betrayed him to Jasper, and-
Jasper.
Oh, she was fucked. She’d misled Jasper . Sure, it wasn’t technically important to the mission, but Jasper wouldn’t see it that way. She’d lied. That was unforgivable. Jasper wouldn’t show her mercy, not after this.
Outside of her cell the ship’s emergency lights started flashing. Steven was escaping. He was leaving her.
She couldn’t have ever left with him. Not after everything she did. No. Steven deserved better than her. Whatever punishment was coming, she deserved it.
She did wish he’d listened to her, though. He really couldn’t escape. Their only hope had been going along quietly. Hoping they just got rejuvenated, or bubbled for eternity, or trapped in another object.
She sobbed. No, she couldn’t do that again. At least if the diamonds shattered them, it might be quick.
Fuck. They would be shattered. It was her fault Steven would be shattered.
If she’d been a better friend she wouldn’t be in this mess.
If she’d just evacuated when she was ordered to.
If she’d been quicker, less stupid. She could have stopped this.
The ship shook as an explosion echoed down the halls. The floor started to rumble . Something was wrong. Something was wrong and she couldn’t do anything about it.
Drawing her knees closer, she shut her eyes. The shaking kept getting worse, and her stomach dropped.
Jasper was going to be so mad.
A thundering sound started, growing by the second. Metal creaked . Her stomach flopped as she felt herself free fall. She hugged herself as hard as she could.
The noise grew until it was all-consuming.
Then she hit the ground.
And she poofed.
