Chapter Text
“MOVE! MOVE!” They rushed through the forest, trying desperately to stick close together all the while staying ahead of those things. The wildlings breathed heavily as they burst through the treeline and out into the open field. They darted across the field. The nearest shelter was a farmhouse, they rushed inside and barred the doors. The screams of the farm animals filled the night, No doubt the creatures made easy work of them. The wildings tried to catch their breath.
“What’re ya doin in my house!” The farmer yelled.
Something rammed against the door. The farmer stood in fear. “What was that?”
“Surely you’ve heard the whispers. The land is cursed with those…those…things.”
The wood splintered as something came slamming against it from the otherside. There were more unholy snarls and then clawing at the door. Scurrying could be heard on the rooftop and the walls outside.
The wife and children of the farmer wandered from their room confused about the commotion. After seeing the fear in the farmers' eyes and hearing the monsters outside, they began to pray. They begged the 7 to deliver them from the evil that awaited them. The large farmer decided to turn his fear elsewhere, he took hold of one of the wildings. He grabbed the wilding by his furs and hoisted him into the air, “YOU PEOPLE BROUGHT THOSE THINGS TO MY HOUSE, TO MY FAMILY.”
Forgetting the creatures outside, the wildlings raised their weapons, ordering for him to release their friend. Their friend however, was unfazed and spoke calmly. I will not apologize for trying to get my family to safety here in the south.”
The farmer's son spoke, “This is the North.”
“Everything's south beyond the wall.”
“WHAT ARE THEY? HOW DO WE KILL EM?”
“There’s a lot of creatures beyond the wall, but I’ve never seen one of these until lately. All I know is they’re hard to kill and they don’t like fire. My cousin caught one on fire once. The only time I’d seen one killed.”
A loud crash splintered the door more causing everyone to jump. He set the wildling down and they all raised their blades, anticipating the creature getting inside. Fingers wiggled its way inside the small opening growing on the door. Realizing it needed more room, it returned to slamming on the door.
There was a squelching noise outside and suddenly all the banging stopped. Whatever was on the roof came down and the snarls seemed to grow distant. Outside they listened to what sounded like a feral tantrum. Then…silence.
Their chests rose and fell, no one took their eyes off the door. The farmer's wife jumped when a gentle knock came to the door. The woman gulped, “Wh-Who goes there?”
Voices whispered on the other side. Fearful, the woman spoke again, “Who goes there?”
The whispers stopped. This time a single voice spoke, to everyone's surprise it was a woman's voice. “It's over, you're safe for now.”
“Who are you?”
Her husband elbowed her, “Don’t speak to it. It could be some type of trick. Perhaps those things can copy people's voices. That could be the voice of one of its victims for all we know.”
“Aside from your dead animals you have nothing to worry about. I come in peace.”
“Why should we believe you?”
“Peek outside, I’ll show you that I am no threat.”
A wilding began to step towards the door but was grabbed by a companion. They shook their heads.
“Winter is coming and I suggest you head down south until the matter is settled.”
“Who are you?”
“My name is Veronica, but my friends call me Ronnie. My enemies however, know me as the Cannibal.”
“Why do they call you the Cannibal?”
The voice didn’t respond. Fearful they remained in the house until the sun rose. Awoken by the singing of birds, the wildlings slowly emerged from the house. The Farmer curiously accompanied them, he needed to see how much damage had been done to his assets. They gasped to see that the animals had been dismembered and mostly eaten. The remains of the creatures were nowhere to be seen. There was however, an eerie amount of blood and a sign of struggle.
The wildlings looked between each other then to the farmer. “Thank you for allowing us shelter last night.”
“Not that I had a choice, but you are welcome.” The Farmer sighed at the mess that had been made of his livestock. At least his crops made it.
“We will continue to head south, as south as south goes. We’ll cross the sea if we must, but I recommend you find a way to warn your Lords and Kings.”
The Farmer laughed, “The Starks are busy people, I doubt they’d have the time of day to hear me out and even if they did, why should I trust that voice? As you can see the bodies of the monsters are missing.”
“It could be a trick, yes, but one thing is for certain. Death is coming and if there is any chance to stop it, it should be taken.”
“She said Winter is coming. We haven’t even had autumn yet, it's far too soon.”
As if on cue a single snowflake fell from the sky. They all looked up to see the heavy sheet of clouds blocking out the sun. The wildlings gave the farmer a nod and began their long walk south.
The farmer continued to stare into the sky, long after they had departed. He couldn’t believe his eyes. The long summer came to an abrupt stop and Winter was indeed coming. Looking at the condition of his home he knew he only had one choice. He must speak with the Warden of the North. It was a miracle his family survived last night. He knew they wouldn’t be so lucky when the long night comes.
He searched the area and was pleased to find out some of his animals remained: 3 chickens, a heifer, and a donkey. The man saddled up and rode the donkey towards Winterfell.
In King's Landing…
Lord Corlys the old Sea Snake stood next to his wife Princess Rhaenys and his Grandchildren. When he had first recovered and returned to his family, he was bamboozled by the insanity that had occurred in his absence. When his wife had told him of the events, he wanted to believe they had all experienced some sort of mental break, a trick of the mind, yet he saw the truth with his own two eyes. Queen Aemma had returned from the dead, Rhaena rode the Cannibal, Daeron had returned from Oldtown, Otto was deceased along with his own brother Vaemond; Aegon mothered an infant named Laenora, and Alicent was currently Daemons second wife and happily in love with Rhaenyra within the Keep.
Four years had passed since Aegons curse. Today Viserys and Aemma smiled at Rhaenyra. It was finally happening. Finally, before all of those gathered today, Rhaenyra was crowned Queen of the 7 Kingdoms and protector of the Realm. Her family smiled from the sideline excited that The King was choosing to retire instead of dying to pass his crown to his named heir. Daemon, at Rhaenyras side, was being crowned as King Consort. He concealed his excitement when the Conqueror's crown was placed upon his head.
A roar broke through the air of the Dragonpit unnerving the guests. There was a loud thud and then silence. Shrugging it off, everyone carried on until a hooded figure ran through the crowd and onto the platform with them.
“What is the meaning of this?” Viserys asked.
Pulling back his hood, baldheaded Laenor revealed himself. Everyone gasped in shock. A hand flew to Rhaenys’ chest as she flew to her son. Corlys remained in place, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Daemon and Rhaenyra exchanged glances.
Tears poured down Rhaenys’ face as she held her son in her arms. Finally Lord Corlys found the strength to move. Afraid his son would disappear he never blinked once, he kept his eyes on Laenor. Once close enough, he reached out a hand. His heart pound wildly when he felt how real and solid he was. He let out a breath, the old Sea Snake himself was brought to tears. Corlys looked around expectantly, “Will Laena be returned to us as well?”
Rhaenyra spoke, “Laenor never died. We faked his death so he could find happiness with Qarl.”
“I am sorry for the deception, truly. I would have loved to see my sons and nieces grow into such fine Princes and Princesses. However, I did not come for a reunion. I came for help.”
“What's happened?”
“Running an errand sent Qarl North beyond the wall. He has not returned. I contacted Cregan and he has informed me of quite a few disappearances in the area and strange activity. The commoners and the free folk whisper there are ungodly creatures within the forest, tormenting the North. I cannot rest until I figure out what has become of my beloved.”
“I will join you at once.” Corlys said.
Rhaenys rested a hand on her husband, “You will do no such thing. You are needed back on Driftmark. Luke still has much to learn about commanding a fleet.”
“I’ll go.” Aegon volunteered.
“Then I will go as well.” Aemond and Jace volunteered. One by one the family offered their support. Warmth filled Laenors heart. So much had clearly changed since his departure.
Aegon shook his head, “Think of your wives. Helaena needs you Aemond and as a member of the council, our sister the Queen needs you as well. Jace, you are my sister's heir and should remain here with your wife and future Queen, Baela. Luke is to inherit Driftmark with Rhaena and can’t risk his life either.”
Prince Jofferey opened his mouth. Before he could speak Aegon continued. “Daeron and I will join Laenor.”
Laenora clung to Aegon's leg.
Alicent rushed over to Aegon, “I’ve already lost you once I can’t lose you again.”
“I’ve been training with Aemond and Daemon, two of the best warriors in the realm. I’ll be fine. Besides, we’ll have Laenor who no doubt reclaimed Seasmoke for this task. I have Sunfyre and Daeron will have Tessarion.”
Viserys looked to Rhaenyra, “You are Queen now. Will you allow your brothers to take up this task?”
Rhaenyra held her head high, “I believe in my brothers and Laenor.”
Laenor smiled at his ex wife, “Thank you.”
“I will pray everyday that you three return alive and well.” Alicent said. She still was reluctant to let her sons go, however she was learning to trust Rhaenyra. Also, she had no desire to make her look weak by objecting. “Please be safe.”
“Thank you mother.” Aegon smiled when she planted a kiss on his forehead and then on his brother.
Rhaenys and Corlys clearly didn’t want to let their son go either. They’d just got him back and already had to say goodbye. Corlys hugged his son, squeezing him tightly, “When you return, don’t be a stranger. Please visit your mother and your old man.”
“You’re not upset?”
Corlys sniffled, “No. I’m just happy you're alive my Son.”
Laenor let out a breath and wiped his damp eyes.
“You better stay that way,” Rhaenys dabbed at her eyes before hugging him as well. “I can’t bury you a second time.”
Aegon smiled at the reunion and quietly suggested his nephews and cousins hug them as well. He even told his formerly illegitimate children to meet Laenor. He wanted them to feel like they too were part of the family. It had been years and they were still getting used to the change. Jofferery ran over to his father, squeezing him tightly. Luke, Jace, Baela, and Rhaena went to him as well. Ashamed Aemond turned his eye away, he could only hope that Laenor wouldn’t be upset that he had claimed his sister's dragon before her remains had time to settle. Laenor had ‘died’ so he never got his opinion on it due to how swiftly his family left Driftmark after the eye incident. Aegon nudged Aemond. As if he read his mind Aegon spoke, “I doubt he minds that you claimed Vhagar brother.”
Aemonds tense shoulders lowered. So badly he wanted to kiss him, but they were still standing before the mass. The Realm was already on edge knowing King Daemon had taken Alicent as a second wife, an act against the church that hadn’t been done since King Maegor the Cruel. Two men openly loving each other would surely spark a new war.
“Safe travels to you brothers,” Helaena hugged Aegon and Daeron, “Oh and before you go, beware of the beasts within the grove.”
Aegon paused, “Beasts? As in plural?”
Laenor stepped away from his family and waved Daeron and Aegon over, “We must go. Cregan is expecting us.”
“Please be careful.” Jace turned his eyes on Aegon. “If we hear even a whisper that something has happened to you, we’ll come running.”
“I don’t want you to go.” Laenora became red in the face. She looked so much like Aegon when she was upset.
Aegon crouched down to look her in the eyes. “I won’t be gone for long. Once we find Qarl I’m coming right back for you.”
“No.” Her lip curled as she pouted, “You’re gonna be gone forever.”
“I swear I will come back to you.” Aegon kissed her forehead. “Take care of your Father while I’m gone.”
She sniffled. She reached up to unclasped her necklace, a gift from her parents on her recent name day. Removing her necklace, she handed it to him. “Promise you’ll come back.”
Aemond remained quiet and he couldn’t tear his eye away.
“There is no force in this world that will keep me away from you Laenora.” Aegon pulled a silver ring from his hand to give to his daughter. “Keep this safe until I get back okay.”
She wiped her eyes, “Okay.”
After watching Aegon and his daughter Laenor sighed. “We can leave in the morning. It's been a long ride here anyways, I could use the rest and so can Seasmoke.”
Aegon breathed deeply. Aemond eyed him closely.
After the Coronation, they had a feast together. Enjoying the company of Laenor for a little while longer. The House of the Dragon filled with laughter and love all through the night while Laenor was caught up on everything he missed. Prince Laenor realized that for the first time in forever, his family was truly at peace and stood as one. Laenora rubbed her eyes and yawned. Aemond kissed her on the head and whispered to Aegon that they should retire for the night. Jace volunteered to join them. Laenor smiled knowing they were no longer at eachothers throats.
They excused themselves. Aemond and Jace kissed their wives goodnight and rounded up the children. Aegon scooped exhausted Laenora into his arms and carried her to her chambers. Servants offered to service him, but he refused them. He sat on the bed with his daughter rocking her in his arms, singing her a lullaby. Remembering when his Grandsire tried to take her away from him brought him anxiety. He didn’t want that anxiety to consume him. Time away from her could do him some good. He didn’t want to become the type of parent that was overprotective and hovered unbearingly in the future. He continued to sing until she filled the room with her soft snores.
“I love you.” He tucked her into bed and kissed her again knowing he’ll be gone when she wakes. He pulled away and headed out of the room to tuck in the rest of his children. When he was done he joined his lovers Jace and Aemond. Their wives were already enjoying eachothers company.
Aemond was already kissing Jacaerys passionately when he entered. Jace stroked Aemonds fine chest hairs while he allowed his tongue to dance with his. Aemond slipped his hand beyond Jaces pants line to handle his growing bulge. When Aegon arrived, they pulled him between them.
Jacaerys peeled away Aegon's clothes, “I think you should stay here and allow Aemond to go. A daughter needs her Mother.”
“I wish it were me departing with you on the marrow, not Daerron.” Aemond whispered into Aegon's ear before pressing his lips against the soft skin of Aegon's neck.
Worried about how Aegon was going to take it, Aemond held Jace’s hand.
“I can’t…WE can’t lose you.” Jace caressed Aegon's soft porcelain skin.
Aemond eyed the raised scar tissue on his lovers. A thousand mile stare overtook him. Noticing this, Jace shifted to give him a kiss and wake him from his haunted memories. Aemond remembered where he was and resumed as if nothing just happened. Jace returned to caressing Aegon.
“You won’t lose me.” Aegon moaned from their sensual touch.
While Aemond kisses Aegon, Jace moves his hand to tease him. When he can’t control himself any longer Jace releases Aemonds hand and moves to place his head between Aegons thighs. Aegon and Aemond begin to stroke each others cocks, the dual stimulation gives Aegon a rush. Becoming a hermaphrodite was the best decision of my life, he thinks to himself. Gliding his tongue along Aegons slit, Jace sloppily devours him. To prevent Aegon from cumming too soon he moves his lips to kiss Aegons pulsating cock. Jace presses his fingers deeply inside Aegon.
Aegon cursed under his breath. His legs shake while Jace gifts him with a powerful orgasm. Aemond throws Jace a devious smile. Jace nods and goes to reposition Aegon, rolling him into his stomach. Jace lets out a breath while he slides himself into Aegon who is now on his hands and knees. Aemond takes Aegons pretty mouth, sliding over his tongue and down his throat. Like a pro, Aegon didn’t choke taking Aemond full length. Aemond complimented him as he ran his finger through Aegons wavy hair. Holding on firmly, Aemond skull fucked Aegon while Jace ravaged him from behind. Gleeful tears poured from Aegons eyes as he allowed them to have their way with him. When he couldn’t take it anymore he tapped Aemond three times on his hip. Understanding, Aemond pulled out to give Aegon a chance to catch his breath. They all repositioned again so Aegon could lay down. Aemond moved behind Jace while Jace continued to pound Aegon. Jace pulled out and finished on the bedding. Aemond wrapped his arms around Jace’s waist to hold him in place. He growled into his ear when he exploded inside of him. Exhausted, they all cuddled together for the rest of the night. Aegon ran his finger over the scar on his brother arm from when he’d cut him with the Conquerors dagger. Aemond stirred in his sleep from Aegons feathery touch. Aegon sighed and closed his eyes. Nestled between his lovers Aegon slept like a baby.
When Morning came Aegon sat up in bed. Jace was still resting, but Aemond was gone. He dressed quickly and went to find Rhaenyra. She was already seated on the Iron throne and dealing with business, instead he decided to speak with Helaena.
“What do you need?” She smiled.
“Aemond wasn’t there when I woke. Did he come to you?”
“Our brothers departed before the sun rose. They already left with Laenor.”
“He ditched me.” Aegon let out a breath.
Helaena took his hands and held them. Gently she stroked the faint scar on his hand where he’d been stabbed. “Aemond is only trying to protect you. Sometimes he still has nightmares about the night you and Jace died.”
“But then I undied. I’m alright now.”
“Try to see where he’s coming from, Aegon. How many times has he almost lost you? You had a fallout when we were children, you were almost raped to death in the streets by a horny mob, you ran away from the keep without saying goodbye, when you came home you resented him, you were so sad when Laenora was taken you lost your will to live, then you ran away again after that hectic family dinner, then you got murdered. You must understand why he did what he did, why he’s so protective.”
Aegon realized she was right. “I just…everyone is always walking on eggshells around me. I think I could use some distance.”
“We simply want to be here for you brother.” She gave Aegon a tug and a playful smile, “Come. We’ll fly together and get some fresh air.”
Aegon smiled, “That sounds wonderful.”
From afar, Alicent watched Aegon and Helaena run off together, giggling like children. She fumbled with her fingers. She couldn’t shake the feeling something was wrong. Something within her clung to that feeling of uneasiness and screamed in her mind that her sons and Laenor were not safe. King Daemon reached over to hold her hand, he whispered for her to breathe. Trying her best, she inhaled and exhaled slowly. He kept his eyes on the court, but he gave her hand a squeeze. Alicent smiled to herself, feeling some comfort from his caring gesture. She quietly thanked him.
