Work Text:
The curtains blew gently in the warm summer breeze and the humidity hung heavy in the air. An orchestra of crickets chirped incessantly in the dark outside your window and you laid half-naked and sprawled out on your thin sheets as you tried to fall asleep. The air was hot and oppressive and all you wanted was to cool down and get some rest.
You laid on your side, then your back , and then your other side all in hopes of finding a comfortable way to sleep. Of course just as you started to slip into unconsciousness you heard a creak from outside your bedroom door. You didn't need to look over to know that it was Julian when he tried to enter quietly and altogether failed. He accidentally knocked so many things in his attempt at a stealthy entrance that you almost wondered if it was on purpose. You heard the sound of him take off his boots and fabric falling to the floor. You still didn't look at him.
You felt the bed dip under his weight as he crawled up behind you. You felt him wrap himself around your legs and press his face into your shoulder blade. His arms wrapped around you and his cold hands gripped your tummy. You sighed gently at the soothing temperature change and place your hand over top his gently. Julian kissed your should gently and yawned. You knew he would pass out soon.
This was fairly routine for you two. Julian would stay out late doing God knows what and then come back to you to snuggle up. It was hard to say if he'd be here by morning, but you always have the night. You never would've thought you'd be okay with something like this, but Jules made it feel alright.
As you felt Julian's breathe on the back of your neck, you wished this could be permanent and that you could trust him to stay. You knew that he wouldn't. Come morning he's thinking clearly and will convince himself to leave you again. But that doesn't matter right now. What matters right now are the cold hands gripping onto you like you'll disappear and the slow beating of a heart you wish you could say was yours. This kills you more and more each time, but for Jules you'd do about anything.
