Chapter Text

Sunoo’s apartment was filled with the delicious smell of food. He was also blasting their favourite songs to sing along while he cooks. He woke up unusually early today to go out grocery shopping for this special day. It’s Sunoo and his boyfriend Heeseung’s 5th anniversary as a couple. He made Heeseung’s favourite dishes. You wanted to make sure that this day would be very special for him.

He was finished with the last dish when someone knocked on the door. It was Heeseung. He excitedly greeted him and hugged him but Heeseung was in trance.

“Love, what’s wrong?” Sunoo asked worriedly.

“Sunoo.” Sunoo was afraid of what Heeseung would say next. The worry he had for Heeseung was replaced with anxiousness.

“He’s back.” You knew exactly who he meant. They were silent for a moment when Sunoo decided to break the silence.

“Can we forget about it for today? Just for today, please.” Sunoo’s lips were quivering while he begs for Heeseung to forget about his ex coming back.

He already knew that this would happen. He knows that Heeseung still loves Jake even though it’s been years since they broke up. But Jake was his great love and still his greatest love, he has nothing against it. Heeseung thought he already moved on since he had Sunoo by his side who did nothing but to love him but when he saw Jake at the mall earlier his heart still beats for him.

Heeseung was scared to tell Sunoo because he knew how much it would hurt him. Five years of being together and yet one day of seeing his ex that he’s still in love with his past lover.

Heeseung kissed Sunoo at the top of his head and smiled.

“It smells good here. What did you make?” Heeseung asked and walked with Sunoo to the kitchen.

“I made your favourites! I even called Ma yesterday to ask for her recipe of your favourite dishes so I did my best for it to taste just like her cooking.” Sunoo boasted. Heeseung helped with setting up the table while Sunoo put the dishes into the bowl and plate to serve.

“Where do you want to go today?” Heeseung asked.

“I wanna go to the Aquarium today. Amusement park would be nice and then let’s go to our place.” Sunoo said. Their place is at the park where they usually sit near a body of water and watch the sunset.

After they ate, Heeseung insisted on washing the dishes so Sunoo could prepare himself.

They knew and they felt it was a bit awkward after he said that. But he can’t bear lying to Sunoo.

That news drained Sunoo, he didn’t want to go anywhere but he wanted their last day to have fun and happy memories in it. After this day, everything will change.

When Sunoo was done they went to the Aquarium first. He didn’t know why he chose this place. He doesn't have an interest in sea or water creatures. They walked around taking pictures together or of each other. They went to a penguin and sea lion show.

They walked around the souvenir store and Sunoo saw a couple’s keychain. It's an interlocking sea otter’s keychain but then he remembered that they might not be able to use it anyway.

Heeseung saw a flash of pain in Sunoo’s eyes while he looks at those keychains. He couldn’t do anything but feel sorry for hurting him.

Their next destination is the amusement park. They’re not going to ride a bunch of rides, they just wanna enjoy the carnival games. Heeseung played most of it and all the things he won he gave to Sunoo. Sunoo was so happy carrying a huge bear around the theme park.

Just right before the sunset they arrived at their last destination. Their place.

This place was filled with their happy memories. Whenever they want to unwind they will go there. They will have a picnic and watch the sunset. But now it’s different. When they got there they were quiet. Only the sound of nature can be heard. Sunoo was calming himself down, he didn’t want to be a crying mess in front of Heeseung.

“You still love him, don’t you?” Sunoo finally asked, he kept his eyes straight watching the sky turn a different colour.

“I’m sorry.” That’s all Heeseung could say.

“It’s fine. You don’t have to be sorry. I knew no one could replace him in your heart. No matter how hard I tried, I knew it’s still him.” Sunoo looked down on his hands and played with it.

“Thank you for being honest with me though.” Sunoo added, looking at Heeseung and smiling even though his smile looked fake.

Heeseung can see tears forming on Sunoo’s eyes. He thought he had moved on. He was happy with Sunoo and he thought he loved Sunoo romantically but maybe he was confused of what he felt. Now that he saw Jake again he knows that his love for Sunoo isn't a romantic kind of love.

Both of them watch as the sun sets into the horizon.

“The sunset is beautiful, isn’t it?” Sunoo said. Heeseung hummed in response.

Sunoo loves Heeseung so much but he has to let him go. He didn’t want him to be caged in a relationship where he isn’t happy and knowing that he loves someone else. All he wants for Heeseung is to be happy even though it breaks him.

They stayed there a few minutes after sunset. When all of a sudden Heeseung’s phone rang.

Sunoo took a peek and he saw that it was Jake who’s calling.

Maybe it’s really the end.

“Answer it. It might be an important call.” Sunoo said. Heeseung stood up and walked a bit far where he could still see Sunoo.

Jake invited him to dinner. He can’t say no, it’s Jake after all.

When the call ended he went to Sunoo and asked him if he wanted to go home.

“You can go. I’ll just take the taxi home.” Sunoo replied.

“It’s already dark. It might be dangerous.”

“There’s still a lot of people here at the park. Don’t worry about me.”

Heeseung was about to leave when Sunoo stopped him.

“Heeseung, can I have a last request?”

“What is it?”

“Hug me and say I love you to me even if it’s a lie. Please. Just one last hug and then it’s over.”

Heeseung hugged Sunoo and whispered I love yous in his ear. Sunoo’s hug got tighter like he didn’t want to let him go. Heeseung can hear Sunoo sobbing. In the last I love you he also whispered the words ‘I’m sorry’.

They broke the hug and Sunoo immediately wiped his tears with his hands.

“Thank you, Heeseung. Be happy.” Those are the last words Sunoo said before they parted ways.
