Chapter Text
He didn’t like to open his eyes.
Behind them, there was the real world, the truth. Behind them, there was Hell. He didn’t want to go to Hell, nobody wanted to.
He wanted to stay here, in his mind, in his dream. It was his little paradise. It was the best escape he had found, to be away from the world, to be away from him .
This place was the last he had, it wasn’t perfect. Sometimes reality could slip in. But it was better than the other option.
Being awake.
Often, he wished that he could sleep forever, to never wake up. But he couldn't. He was always here to remind him of the reality, of his current situation. He wanted to stay here, he didn’t want to leave. Why? Why should he go there?
It was unfair.
“Open your eyes.”
Sunny opened his eyes.
He was there, right in front of him. He wasn’t saying anything, just looking at him with fondness.
Sunny hated it.
His whole body was tense and aching because of him . His mind was fractured because of him. His life wasn’t his anymore because of him .
He wanted to scream, to tell him how he hated him. The gag in his mouth made it impossible. His wrists were sore, being tied to the bed all day. His right ankle was red because of the handcuff. His eyes were puffy because of the hours he cried. And his heart was screaming in agony.
He was in pain, and yet Basil smiled.
“Hello, love. Were you asleep ?” he asked.
Sunny didn’t even blink. He was afraid, he was tired, he was starving. All of this because of the boy in front of him, the one he had considered as his best friend for years.
When did all this turn so bad? Why were they in this situation now? Why was Sunny tied to the bed while Basil was free? …
Oh right, he remembered. It was all his fault, wasn’t it ? It was because he wasn’t a good friend. He had left them all after her death. They needed his help, and he runned away.
Basil needed him the most, and Sunny abandoned him. He blamed his best friend, letting him rot in his depression. And what did Sunny do meanwhile ? He dreamed, he forgot.
And even after all that, when he decided to move, to do something? He still ignored Basil. He talked to Aubrey, Hero, Kel, but never to Basil. And yet his best friend was still here, hoping for him.
He looked at them from afar, he smiled shyly at everyone. He didn’t smile at Sunny, no, it was more than a smile.
It was the supplicitation of a devotee to his god.
And still, Sunny didn’t acknowledge him.
He didn’t because he was scared, because he felt guilty. He didn’t know how to tell him how sorry he was. He didn't know how to beg for his forgiveness.
He waited, waited and waited until it was too late. Until the day where Basil broke. Only one week had passed since this fateful day, it seemed years to Sunny. Nobody searched for him, they thought him dead.
Maybe he deserved it after all, it was his punishment for Mary’s death and for abandoning Basil. He didn’t know, he didn’t know anything anymore.
“Sunny, did you have a good day? Was it too long without me? Why aren’t you answering?” Basil asked with an urgent tone. How did he want him to respond when he was gagged? It’s like Basil had read his thoughts and he let out a surprise sound.
“Oh, right. Sorry I had forgotten,” he apologized with a small laugh.
It was painful to see him act like everything was normal. For Sunny, it was if he was looking at his real best friend. Basil took out the gag from his mouth and the first thing Sunny did was to breath. Basil smiled fondly and stroked his hair.
“I’m sorry, I don’t like either to gag you, but you know that I don’t have the choice. Nobody can hear you, you understand?”
To everyone, the face he was making would look caring, loving. But Sunny knew it was a lie, in one week he had learned a lot. Basil hated when he ignored him, all his sentences were threats and he wasn’t shy about using violence.
Sunny nodded slowly, letting him know he understood. Basil smiled.
“Good. I’m happy to have you by my side,” he said, kissing Sunny’ head.
“Me too,” he whispered. His voice was too sore to speak aloud.
Basil hummed, his hand caressing his forearms. He was always touching Sunny, like if his skin was a drug. The boy hated it, he made him shiver.
These touches were soft and caring until they weren’t anymore. If Sunny said or did the wrong thing, the simple caress became a grip. A hand on his cheek became a slap.
“It’s time to eat, do you want something in particular?” Basil asked with enthusiasm and hope.
For the first time since he opened his eyes, Sunny flinched.
T he first time Basil fed him wasn't…pleasant.
He was still foolish and sturbonn and struggled against him. Everytime Basil tried to put something in his mouth, he spat it and glared at the other boy.
It was the first time he was hit by Basil.
He remembered how he stared at him astonished. He had never thought his best friend would hurt him like that. Soon a spoon was forced in his mouth and the threat of a knife against his throat made him swallow.
Since then, he always ate what Basil was giving without complaint. He shook his head, it wasn’t the time to think about it.
“I- don’t know, everything you give me is fine,” he answered. Basil’s face lit up.
“You’ll see, I will make you the best dishes you have ever eaten!” he said proudly. S unny’s face was blank but it didn't bother Basil who began to untie him.
Since seven days, it was the same pattern. The morning, Basil untied him to let him use the bathroom and to eat breakfast. Then he would tie him again and leave. Sometimes for shopping, sometimes to see his friends (the one who thought Sunny died).
And the evening, when he came home, he untied Sunny once again, they ate together, they took a shower one by one and then they talked. Well, more Basil was talking and Sunny was listening. Then they slept in the same bed, cuddling because that's what Basil wanted. And it repeated again and again.
It was driving Sunny mad.
But tomorrow would be the first day of the weekend and maybe it would be different.
When his wrists were freed, Sunny rubbed them and sat. The chain to his ankle was still here, it was the only one Basil never took off. With it, he could only go in the bedroom and bathroom, the other rooms were too far.
His freedom had been taken right under his nose the moment he went into Basil's house.
He sighed, Basil had already left for the kitchen and he was stuck alone once again.
Since Basil's grandmother's death, the boy lived here alone, so there was no chance for him to be found. Even if Basil invited people here, nobody would come into the grandma's bedroom where he was currently. And Sunny would be tied and gagged so impossible for him to shout for help.
He looked at his bloodied nails, he had tried to remove the handcuff but only hurt himself. He could never escape from here.
He didn’t have a tear left to cry. He felt so empty. It was even worse than after Mary’s death. The pain of knowing that his condition was because of his best friend was unbearable.
He looked around him, apart from a table, two chairs and some books, there was nothing else in the room. The only thing Sunny had for distraction was his own mind and Basil when he was here.
Basil who was, by the way, coming. He had two plates in his hand and smiled brightly when he saw Sunny sitting on the bed.
“I made rice with pork, I hope you’ll like it!’ he said cheerfully.
He sat down on one of the chairs and Sunny joined him. He looked at his plate while Basil was staring at him. It always made him uneasy to be watched while eating but he couldn’t do anything about it.
He took a piece of the pork with his fork and slowly led it towards his mouth. His stomach growled and he froze. Basil looked at him, his eyes wide open before laughing.
“Wow, I didn’t know you were so hungry. The next time I’ll be quicker,” he said, a light blush on his cheek. Sunny took his first bite.
It was delicious and at the same time it left a bitter taste in his mouth. His best friend cooked so well, and he couldn’t even enjoy it anymore. Still, he took a second bite and third.
Basil was still watching him, his plate left untouched. Sunny instantly knew that he was waiting for him to say something. He forced himself to smile.
“It’s delicious, thanks,” he said. Basil’s face turned crimson and the boy avoided his gaze.
“I’m happy you like it, I put all my love into doing it,” he said shyly. Sunny nodded. Only now Basil began to eat.
He didn’t understand why Basil was always saying he loved him. How could you love someone and still locked them up in your house? How could he love him when Sunny had made him suffer so much?
At the beginning he thought it was a vengeance. But Basil seemed so sincere in his sentiment. He closed his eyes and remembered the day he had been kidnapped by his best friend.
~~~
After years of avoiding him, he was ready to apologize. Today he would say sorry to Basil and tried his best to make everything better. Sunny took a deep breath and knocked on the door. After a minute of waiting, Basil opened. His eyes widened when he saw him.
“S-Sunny ? W..What are you doing here?” he asked with a shaking voice. Sunny realized something that made his heart ache. Basil was scared of him. He looked at his shoes awkwardly.
“I- Uh, can I talk to you about something…?” There was a light silence where the two of them just looked at each other. And then Basil nodded and opened the door wider.
“Y-Yes you can!” Sunny stepped in, it was dark. He frowned, the place seemed emptier than in his memories. He looked around, not sure of what he should do. Basil closed the door and came near him.
“So..uh, do you want to sit?” he asked. Sunny nodded and they both sat on the sofa.
Sunny couldn’t look his best friend in his eyes, instead he stared at his hand on his lap. How could he start? Should he be quick, or long? Was he being fair if he apologized and then left right away?
Surely not, but he was so scared.
Maybe he should have come with Kel, or Hero… He hadn’t even told them where he was going. He hoped they wouldn't be worried.
Ah, he was so stupid. Basil was waiting for him to say something, why he wasn’t opening his mouth. Calm down Sunny, be relaxed.
He closed his eyes and concentrated on his breathing. He sighed, it was time.
“I…wanted to apologize for all the things I had done. I should have helped you like you did for me all those years ago. I was a coward to leave you alone like this. I’m deeply sorry.” He wasn’t the one who said much in general and his way to apologize was a bit awkward. He cringed, it was really bad, wasn’t it?
Maybe he should have put in more effort? When he heard no sound, he lifted his head. Basil had a strange glint in eyes.
He sweated a lot and his breathing was erratic. Well, that was strange. Was it really so bad?
“Basil, are you ok?” he asked, concerned. The boy nodded but Sunny doubted that it was true. Then Basil’s face became so bright that it was blinding.
“I-I’m so happy! I-I thought, you didn’t l-love me back. But I-I was wrong!” Sunny frowned, what was he talking about?
“What?” he asked bluntly. Basil leaned towards him and took his wrist in his hand.
“Yes! You have ignored me since Mary's death so I thought you would never love me again. But I was wrong! You just needed time, right? In the end you came back to me!”
His words were incoherent. His eyes filled with madness. He had a manic smile that was so creepy. Sunny felt a shiver on his spine, something in his gut told him there was a problem with Basil.
He had the strange urge to flee from here as soon as possible. But instead he just stared at his best friend agape.
“I…don’t like you. At least not as a lover…,” he said with a frown. Basil's face fell, his smile fluttered.
“What are you talking about? Of course you love me!” he responded with a desperate tone. Sunny shook his head, the feeling growing and growing in his chest. He had to leave, now.
“No, I don't, Basil,” he said harshly.
It was a mistake.
A tear ran down his best friend’s cheeks, and then a second, and a third, until he was crying.
And then, Basil began to also laugh. And Sunny understood he was in big danger.
He stepped back on the sofa and Basil didn’t follow him. The other boy suddenly sighed and wiped his face. He looked at Sunny, his face was blank of emotion.
“I see…I guess I don’t have a choice.”
Two things happened at the same time. Sunny rushed towards the door and Basil gripped his collar. He almost choked because of his shirt which strangled him.
He slipped from it, now bare chest and turned the doorknob. It was closed. Despair filled Sunny’s eyes and he turned around. Basil was right in front of him, his face letting no emotion shown and a needle in his right hand.
They didn’t say anything, it was useless. Sunny jumped on Basil, making him fall with him. He punched his face, but the fear was making him weak. Then a right punch on Basil’s nose made him groan.
But the small victory was short, Sunny felt a pain in his thigh and looked down. The needle was in his flesh. He grunted and his vision became blurred.
The last thing he remembered was falling asleep on Basil who had a bright smile.
~~~
A hand touched his face and Sunny startled. It was Basil who was looking at him with a worried expression. Oh right, he was eating and then he was lost in his memories.
“Are you ok, love? You seem really pale,” The boy noticed.
Sunny wanted to take his hand off, to tell him to fuck off. Instead he nodded. He felt so sick, it felt like his stomach was about to reject everything inside it.
The touch of Basil on his skin feels like a million bugs and he despises it. He felt a pink on his cheek, his best friend was annoyed. Sunny knew what he should do but he didn’t want to.
Maybe death was better than this. But he was a coward and death was scaring him.
“I’m sorry love, I was just thinking. I love you,” he said with reluctance. Basil looked really pleased and leaned forwards. He knew what was coming, and he wanted so much to avoid it.
But he stayed still and a mouth pressed against his own. That was so disgusting, he couldn't believe it was real.
Basil was kissing him, the one who was holding him captive was kissing him. He wanted to throw up.
The lips on his own were literally crushing his mouth. A tongue lapped them and Sunny prayed for someone to save him.
“Open your mouth,” Basil threatened.
Sunny closed his eyes and opened his mouth.
A tongue invaded it and started to go as far as possible, choking him. The kiss of Basil wasn’t a loving one, but a forceful and possessive one.
It was unpleasant, so unpleasant. He couldn’t breath, he couldn’t fucking breath!
Hands were touching him, one slipped under his chest and stroked his belly. The hand was so cold. It went up and up until it met one of his nipples.
He felt Basil grinned and the hand pinched his little piece of flesh. Sunny flinched and let out a moan of pain. It hurt, and bad.
Why was he enduring all that? Why couldn’t he fight back? Because Basil was his best friend? Because he felt like he deserved it? Because he was a coward?
He didn’t know, the only thing in his mind currently was pain.
After a long minute of suffering, Basil let him go. He was painting, tears at the corners of his eyes. Basil, he, was watching him with a lustful look.
“You’re so beautiful, I love you so much,” he praised, kissing Sunny’s eyelid. The boy was still out of breath, his clothes were unmade. He looked miserable.
“Look at you! You are so dirty! We should take a shower,” Basil said and Sunny froze. He couldn't believe his ear.
“We?” he said in disbelief. His best friend nodded.
“Yes, we are both dirty.” Sunny shook his head.
“But we always take our showers one by one,” he said desperately. Basil laughed and kissed the tip of his nose.
“We are a couple, darling. Shouldn't we do what couples do? Don’t worry it will be good!” Sunny didn't believe him.
He begged to be saved.
But nobody came.
